Review as of version 0.56c
Pros:
+ Overall visually appealing
+ Some of the best HS characters among the games based on it
+ Decent writing
Cons:
- Music. Oh god, it's the worst.
- UI definitely needs more work
- VERY short for a game that's according to its current version halfway done
In-Depth:
This was an interesting experience to say the least. More so in a good way than not. But let's start with the things I didn't like.
First, the music is atrocious. I honestly don't remember the last time I turned it off in a game, so this was a first in a looong time. Usually even if the music is bad, it's just a background noise, but here it's actually distracting. I hate it so much. And even when you turn it off, it starts playing when you open your BCC app on a phone.
Which brings me to the second point: UI.
It's serviceable, but far from good. Huge text, but in contrast - tiny icons. The text on the phone sometimes doesn't fit the borders. The interactable objects aren't immediately obvious until you realize that it's only doors and PC, so it's more of a new game problem, but still.
And of course there's a lack of content. But I don't count it as a serious minus until I see the full game, so... meh... but so far it's very short. I think the girls have maybe 3 quests until it's over. So if it is a halfway point as the version number as of writing this review suggests, then it will be an incredibly short experience. But like I said, we'll see when it's done.
Other than that, I loved this game.
I don't think I need to tell you that it looks great, you can see the screenshots.
Some of the best HS characters I've seen in these types of games. And the backgrounds are also nice, crisp and don't feel like an afterthought.
The animations aren't too imaginative, but you can't expect every developer to go through the pain of making them unique. And the animation quality is drastically worse compared to the rest of the game. But personally, I don't see animations as a necessary part of the game, so it doesn't bother me much as long as static images are pretty. And they are.
The story is... idunno... I actually have no idea what it's about. So far it doesn't seem too interesting. But it is well written, so I have fun reading dialogues and descriptions.
The fact that MC gets corrupted more so than corrupting others, and not in a femdom way, is actually rather refreshing. I'm not sure I'd call it enjoyable, I like having more control over the characters I play, but refreshing nonetheless.
The other characters are... hmm... I guess they aren't necessarily unique, but have interesting twists here and there that make them memorable. Just as an example, when you have a mother character in these games, she's usually either a housewife or working in some unknown office job. Here she's a model. It's a little thing, but little things are exactly what makes characters stand out.
Kaira and Caroline are great of course. And Veronica and Olivia have my kind of stories, so I love them too. But what I didn't expect is to like Nicole. She is still far from being my favourite, but in any other game I'd just ignore her and move on, because so much about her is a turn-off for me. And yet, not here.
In the same vein, I have to say, while it's usually not my thing in the slightest, to the point of being one of the very few complete turn-offs, I really enjoy Camille so far and want to see where it goes eventually. So congratulations, this is only the second game that made me not outright say no to this type of character. I'd say it's an achievement.
Both Nicole and Camille are a proof that good writing and pretty models can overwrite personal limitations. Because here I enjoy them, where somewhere else would hate.
Overall, I'd say that this game is worth trying. The gripes I have with it are fairly insignificant when compared to enjoyment I got. So yeah, it's an easy recommendation.
