Devs/Players, how's your experience on platforms other than Steam/Patreon?

Due to the recent Steam, , I think it's about time to discuss the alternatives.

How is your experience working with/buying from GoG/SubscribeStar/DLSite/Fanbox/Nakuta/etc?

What do they allow/ban?

Do you need a bank account from certain country?

Any minefield most people are not aware of?

As a player I've used GoG and Epic and both are substandard. Epic is hard to navigate and my huge library of junk I've picked up for free is impossible to navigate.

GoG is slightly better that I recall but I don't use it for much of anything at all and haven't looked at it in years.

I haven't bought anything porny from these sites so there's really nothing I think I would have noticed.

On GOG you get the uncensor patch as DLC right from the site / client. They seem picky and slow to add games, seemingly preferring only certain publishers for Japanese games, and almost nothing from WEGs. I doubt they do much of any research, or they wouldn't have turned down SKA, a proper completed game that doesn't have underage incest or rape like most others on there. Company seems pretty woke too, and have folded previously for a CCP-banned game in a very pussy way. But obviously once you own a game, not only do you get to keep it in your library but you get a DRM-free installer for it and the DLC.

Most people that complain about games censored on steam/patreon won't support you with crypto or on subscribestar, so it's a hard battle to win.

Steam and patreon are basically following the same rules now.

Subscribestar has less users.

GOG barely had adult games.

No idea if Epic does tbh.

Oppaiman is mostly VNs and connected to patreon.

If Steam removes all adult games it will be a massive hit.

I personally think Itch.io is the best for adult games, after Steam. The problem is that Steam is picky as fuck.

Itch had its big problems in the past, they didn't ban but the dev had to take care of the payment processing. Did that change?

I like itch.io because it's more female friendly and there are a lot other genre, like horror and interactive fiction. Hopefully, it won't be ruined.

I've been using itch since 2023, and everything was fine. Regarding payments, I just had to connect my PayPal and press a button to collect the money.

that was something that happened during a few days to a minority of adult devs on itch 2 years ago. been pretty quiet from itch since then.

I just spoke and they banned one of my games yesterday. Apparently, they're becoming very strict just like Steam because of payment processors pressuring them...
