Do the games with the grid style appearance, where the characters have to be advanced by key clicks, have a specific title ?

I find them very frustrating and am keen to avoid them.

Your description is very vague. A few game titles for reference would help.

I am sorry for being a bit vague, I will look for an example.

The game usually shows characters in houses, rooms, streets, etc., in a schematic style and characters have to be moved about by key strokes. Like the early Pokemon games.

Ya, sounds like role playing games (RPGs) to me, specifically the common variety made with RPG Maker that can be found in abundance here. Just look for the bright blue RPGM prefixes on game threads and you'll know which ones you generally want to avoid if those aren't your thing.

Well, this is RPGMaker game. Most of japanese doujin games made with this engine. There is pretty same engine called WOLF Editor.

Those types of games have special tags on this forum. [RPGM], and [WOLF].
