Is there any way to adjust personal settings on F95 to disable display of animated content in user profiles and/or signatures? If there is anything obvious in the user preferences I am not seeing it.

EDIT - me being blind to the signatures setting solved (y) ;
Still hoping there is a way to disable animated usernames/profiles ??

EDIT2 - username animations solved too (y)

Thanks for all the helpful replies,

I use the 100-post-per-page view because I frequent some popular threads, and loading 100 posts where maybe 1/3 of them are running animations of various sizes is not just annoying visually but also slows down my browser enough for me to notice. I would prefer not to disable all animated content via the browser settings just to make my F95 browsing experience better, especially since I have been on other forums where users do have the option to disable that sort of unnecessary stuff so I assume it must also be possible to disable it here somehow too??

If I did miss it somewhere please feel free to mercilessly make fun of me....so long as you point me to the right setting to change while you're at it. :sneaky:

Thanks, but I want to see content in the posts themselves, so blocking all images or content above a certain size would also prevent me from seeing the stuff I want to see.

The gif "freezing" idea (3rd link) is interesting, but unless you can click on selected ones and play them normally it would result in the same problem of not seeing posted content when all I want is to get rid of animated usernames/profiles and signatures - i.e., stuff that has nothing to do with the post/thread and is essentially individual user "flair."

there is a setting to disabled signatures, if that is preferable
I looked again after seeing your post, but I still don't see such a setting. Can you point me to where it is? Because it isn't an option in my Preferences unless I have gone completely blind or stupid (both are possible).

That would solve the bigger issue, although not the annoying animated usernames, which I assume are a "privelege" of "superusers" but are annoying as Hell to have to look at, IMHO.

ctrl+f for "Show people's signatures with their messages"

it's a bit above the posts per page setting.

Well FMS there it is indeed. Guess blind and stupid both apply. THANK YOU! I test-loaded one of my regular threads and I feel like someone who has been constipated for a week who finally gets the relief of a huge dump. Apologies for the graphic analogy, but thatt's what the relief of the drastically cleaner page brought to mind.

Now, if anyone knows a way to disable the animated usernames... ??

Seems like this is becoming more and more common (although maybe I just never noticed it before recently). Looks like many/most are Donors or Moderators. While it's super that that perk is there as a reward for folks, I'm not sure why I should be punished for their contributions. I get that I'm probably in the small minority on this one, but it would still be nice if there was a way to force the display of plain text usernames rather than animated ones.

if you use ublock origin, you can disable animations on the usernames and badges by right clicking on the element in question and doing block element until the effect disappears

Amazing! Thank you.

Why the HELL they decided to hide that setting at the bottom of Account Details instead of it being in Preferences is beyond me. Almost like they want it to be hard to find...

the option that whowhawhy suggested is the only option to choose from for an account relating to this feature of disabling animations for a username across the forum, choosing this option does not disable username animations across the whole forum, there is no actual way to disable animated usernames on here.

would be a great feature to add for the future though.

yes, life without signatures :-( and animated user-thingies is much nice.

just post to make sure you did not miss peterppp's message, I hope? That is exactly how I got rid of donor or moderator or such having an animated outline.

I liked his post, and I am considering adding that extension...despite really preferring not to add another extension because eventually something will not play well with something else. It does seem to be widely used and generally well-rated, so when the euphoria of having the signatures turned off (and at least a partial solution for usernames) starts to fade I will probably try it out.
