Hey everyone, I’m curious about something and would love your honest thoughts.

When it comes to adult games, how important are themes like incest, step-family, or other family-related relationships to you?

Do these kinds of storylines actually make you more likely to buy, support, or play a game — or do you mostly ignore them and focus on other aspects, like art style, writing, or gameplay?

I’ve seen a lot of devs build entire fanbases around this type of content, while others avoid it completely — so I’m really interested in hearing how much it actually influences your interest in a game.

Also it will be hard to get a reading on real support for incest games given the current state of affairs as some who might be willing to support them are not willing to comply with the requirements needed to support / buy them.

There used to be a time where I only played incest-games, mainly because this was the one fetish I would not really do in RL, but which I really like in a fictional way.
But nowadays I think that incest is overrated. I play incest-games as well and if there is a incest-patch and it is clear that this is the intended story, I will install it. But my main issue with incest games is that to be believable they always have slower progression - simply because it takes longer for family members to actually embrace it.

So you not only have the somewhat standard progression Handjob, Thighjob, Titjob, Blowjob, Sex, but also everything slower because of the incest. (Plus potentially Sleepsex)

The way I see it, porn is a bit like comedy, in that it needs to be at least somewhat subversive to have any real impact. The good thing about incest is that it's taboo, but there aren't (inherently) any victims, like there are in rape and NTR stories. You could argue that the same is true for certain types of bestiality or monster content, but those are visually and conceptually off-putting to many people, and harder to convincingly portray.

The exact same could be said about any genre. That's how they work. Porn games are not exempt from the basics of storytelling, and incest is just a genre of story/writing. I'd say good writing is what's important, not just the presence of a story theme. I'm an incest enjoyer, but I don't care at all for poorly written incest stories. However, judging from the type of incest slop that is popular, I guess most people don't feel the same way.

If you look into storytelling theory, compelling storytelling is mostly about creating tension, which means there is a protagonist with a desire they need to fulfill and meaningful obstacles that keep them from fulfilling it. The audience’s interest comes from watching the protagonist struggle with these obstacles until they finally achieve their goal (or fail completely, which one would rather not see in games, especially incest-related adult games).

Obstacles can be totally different. They can be external (physical barriers, rival characters, or social restrictions), or internal (fear, guilt, conflicting values, or the slow realization of what the protagonist truly wants).

Incest-related games create predictable tension in a natural and relatable way for many, as they contain an inherent moral conflict. So the creator doesn't need to put much effort into thinking about how to create tension, and the players have a higher chance of getting a tense and interesting story, even if they don't know the creator. Hence, choosing to play an incest game is for many quite a safe choice to get sexually entertained, and for the creators, creating it is an easy way to find an audience. But given the current situation with payment providers, it's of course also quite an easy way to get your game banned from most forms of monetization.

I don't think too hard about it. Honestly I care more about the art and if it is actually not a pain in the ass to play. I have never expected amazing writing, but I do rather have the writing not be that of a child at the very least.

I do play these games though, I enjoy them because many form part of the slow corruption stuff I like, but not all of them. There are things I avoid real hard like scat and guro because... fuck... but I will play anything I think, as long as it looks and/or plays well.

We cannot expect THAT much from these games. Some have actual amazing gameplay, which surprised me really hard, others have weirdly engaging worlds and plots, others are just unique, but most are here to deliver some interactive erotic situations without nothing too crazy.
