Hello. I want to ask a question that is kind of important for my game. I need some advice tbh. I will tell what's going on the scenes because i think it's kind of important why i need to show the main character's face and if it bothers people i need their advice on how i can show this scene otherwise.

Here is 4 example for what i am referring to. In this picture i don't show the face of main character but only a portion of his body. The maid tells to our character that he needs to behave good or the guards of the house might have to break all of his bones. She warns her about the predecessors that tried to attach emotionally to the young lady of house and they have been all mia'd.

In this picture he is checking behind of the maid character. He has an inner monolog in here and thinks she has a nice figure. And proving what maid said about the perverts before him.

He thinks maid got some point and tries to behave once more since he got a job after a long time.

For the punchline he checks her again.

My question is how can i express all these scenes without showing the face of main character? Or does me showing the face of mc would bother the immersiveness? How about if i were to show a proportion of face? Is that acceptable to some extent? Should i take a different approach for punchlines similar to these?

Can't speak for everyone but as long as the MC isn't horrendous it doesn't bother me to see his face. If you want to know better though you should make a poll so that way more people will answer you and you will have a better response overall. Anyway good luck with your game and hope to play it soon

You should do what ever is best for you to help with your game. For me personally its hard to play games with a MC that looks like hes over 70 or under 25 if I have to see his face. Most of the time they look weird. Yours looks fine though seen him a bunch but hes alright.

Edit: Also another way to do it would be to keep the first and second image then do one where he looks up but off to the right a little so shes visible but just a little. Then for the punchline zoom in a little on the maid maybe her skirt as the focus.

Thanks for the advice! I couldn't find how to open a poll but managed to do it anyway.

It is actually a base model, i will change or replace him. I rendered these images for asking about the topic.

It's way easier to stage interesting scenes if you can see the MC. POV gets quite monotonous before long. Yeah, you'll run the risk of some people not liking the MC's look, but if it makes your game better, it's worth the trade-off.

I don't think you'll find many people who oppose seeing the MC. Even the telltale look of POV look of Japanese VNs has more to do with animation costs than not being able to show the MC.

There are only 2 times I'm bothered by seeing the MC. The first is when it's that generic Honey Select guy with the hair of a homeless man, a thin stringy beard, and the most grotesque perv smile ever. That guy doesn't belong in porn ever. The other is when the MC blocks the view of the girl during sex. Nothing ruins a sex scene faster than blocking the girl for a close up of man ass or the dude's balls swaying as he thrusts.

Male characters in a scene don't bother me, yet another MC with a Morley hairpiece does...
To be honest same! I don't even want to use base models as my main character so this time it was only for asking the question. I'll try to make him different from any base model, because well... seeing so many base models of women characters and male characters might have affected my viewpoint too. Thanks for great tip.

Of course, the sex scenes shouldn't have the dudes whole body and well close ups for missionary or doggy style can be pulled without showing the body. Also same i hate base honey select model guy. I liked the approach of ecchi sensei for that model tbh, he only shows the main characters lips if he has to show a close up, but in my case i can't afford to show full emotion without showing the full face.

I think a POV game more easily brings a feeling of immersion in the player, which is very important in games like these. However, I don't think most of the people would mind seeing the main character's face once in a while.

I personally remember only few (almost) pure POV-porn-game that I like. There are far more third-person-perspective-games. I think, it is rather difficult to make a good POV-game, because you have a lower variety of stylistic devices to catch the player. So you have to be better in using those, you have. Additionally the written story might get more important in that style of games and the player might really need to follow that story. Any feeling-expressions, you give by showing the MC can only be transmitted by either the written story or the reactions of the other characters.

This depends surely heavily also on the preferences of the player regarding story reading. I am personally here more for the visuals than for the story. If the story is good, but the visuals are not that good, I lose interest quite fast. I can rather accept, if is the other way round. But it shouldn't be complete bullshit. The best is, if story and visuals are both very good and fit to each other. For people, that are more involved in reading the story (or if you transmit the story by a good voice actor for the lazy ones like me), POV can be more immersive.

I don't have a problem with seeing the MC's face, actually, I have a problem when I can't see it.

Sometimes, I think VN devs are overly obsessed about hiding the MC's face even when they shouldn't. For example, in the emotional scene where MC needs to react to a certain situation and can't portray the feeling by just mere words, unable to see the MC's face in that kind of situation really kill the mood for me.

Another example and a very common problem in VNs that makes me frustrated the most. POV kiss scene, it's stupid just stop doing it, please.

I'm not sure if there're many people like me who don't do self-insert in VNs, I just can't and I always prefer MC that has a real character and personality like any other character in the game, so my answer to your question perhaps not helping at all lmao.

i would say, only if you are making a truly first person game then i expect you to not show the mc. if im either seeing myself in third person or am just the narrator watching over the mcs shoulder hasically, i wouldt actually find it odd not seeing him in scenes. a bit like in movies, right?
