Depend on the mood, and also depend on your definition of "Vanilla". I need some kind of "build-up", even for vanilla sex. Just getting straight to the action doesn't do anything for me, most of the time.

That said, in the recent past I am noticing my fetishes getting weirder and weirder, i.e. something that until a few years back I wouldn't have dreamed to turn me on...

i saw somewhere that the more you watch porn / jerk off the more normal things won't do it for you so if you stop jerking off for like 90 day you can go back to normal lol

In no particular order:
  • Well-written engaging story with nothing more or less than said story and setting naturally give rise to. You can't do Game of Thrones without incest. A mafia or vampire intrigue will have a lot of rape, blackmail and coercion. Serenading your pure virgin star-crossed lover doesn't leave much room for public anal.
  • Kitchen sink sandbox with pretty much everything customisable/optional. The more weird and crazy fetishes the better, so long as they even remotely fit within the basic premise. Not really viable with a single dev, crowdsourced open development would be best here. Basically Violated Heroine 2.0 I guess.
  • Content-focused and dedicated to a single fetish or a narrow set of closely related ones. By "content" I mean sex acts and encounters, possibly plot/story dedicated to the fetishes themselves. Ideally a low proportion of "vanilla" scenes/options/encounters as long as "being vanilla" is mutually exclusive to the chosen fetishes (i.e. you can make a body hair, interracial or incest-focused game with lots of penis-in-vagina sex, but doing so with foot fetish or anal will be more difficult)
The most important point to me is that both devs and websites like this one communicate the content clearly. Exclusion filters work wonders, both for dealing with ambiguities ("lesbian -male_protagonist" anyone?) and for avoiding content you find so repulsive as to feel compelled into complaining about it (NTR and scat being the main offenders in my experience).

On this site specifically I mainly look for fetish content, both due to the time investment larger games represent and because the very limited content descriptions make it hard to search for attributes I enjoy in "vanilla" content. On pornhub, exhentai or booru sites it is easy to find different body shapes, sex positions, cumshot locations, settings and so on, here I struggle unless I know some kind of workaround based on specific studios, genre trends or rare terminology (thus viable for a full text search).

Depends on what you mean by vanilla and which kind of kinks, as well as it depends on the story itself and the characters and it's progression. I prefer a built-up or slower progression, and I like when the story is not about sex only.

So I think a lot of kinks could be do more harm when there are many kinks I dislike than being it vanilla but the story itself and all is just top notch, you know?

Melody and Sunshine Love from Mr. Dots. Would you describe this as rather Vanilla or rather full of kinks? Or give another examples of well-known games, so we know what do you mean by full of kinks versus vanilla.

I find a bunch of stuff that isn't labeled vanilla to be vanilla. I am aware I'm playing a game, so the characters being related to me (incest) or sleeping naked with their butthole to the door (sleep sex) isn't really vanilla, but it is borderline normal to me. If you play almost exclusively games with gay content, then gay content is probably more normal to you. So let me try not to conflate vanilla and 'normal'.

Based on the things I find normal (in games) being kinks, I guess I am leaning towards a game with a lot of kinks. HOWEVER, I can't deal with it if it excludes vanilla. If it's only anal fisting and throatfucking and no kissing, some missionary and the likes, it feels like I'm watching a showcase to an exhibition I didn't mean to buy a ticket for. If it's just a fuck-for-all where you can missionary the one girl and spitroast the other girl then I don't mind the kinks. Like SoaB has pregnancy content, but since I don't have that kink, I just don't play that part.

I kind of lost the point of my comment now, but I think there's an answer in there :p

It really depends on how well something is done and current mood. I tend to be more on the side of full of kinks that go well together with buildup and with vanilla, it would have to have a steady buildup with story on characters growing closer together slowly. Vanilla tends to be more on the "ahh that's adorable and nice" side for me with how I see some things done

Well, I wouldn't consider Incest to be Vanilla, so DMD would fall outside of the "pure vanilla" in my categorization. Obviosuly there are various degrees between "100% vanilla" and "0% vanilla". DMD, while heavily incest based, in my opinion is pretty tame so I would put it closer to the 100% Vanilla.

I personally like a non vanilla and would rather choose the one that full of kinks and fetishes but with a note of that we're allowed to select which part that is in game content to be included or not in example : like scat, piss , furry , snuff.

By vanilla, if you mean romance, then hell yeah I do. NTR might turn on the body, but depending on the art and tags, vanilla turns on both the body and mind.

I don't even play vanilla ero-games, I've almost always been about the kinks. In games, that generally means corrupting someone or being corrupted.

Ive always been into seeing cum on a hot chick, so facials and whatnot, but also on their tits, ass and body, which all seems pretty vanilla for the money shot, but i realised that a bukkake is quite literally all of them combined which is not vanilla at all so i am kinda into that, but id say thats the only non vanilla thing im into, stuff like scat etc is revolting to me
imagining a chick drenched in my cum and loving it is a turn on and thats as far as ill ever go for non vanilla means, its a shame bukkakes arent too common in renpy

I don't mind vanilla as long as it has an interesting art style and/or a good story and characters to go along with it. Acting Lessons is pretty vanilla and it's one of my favorites on here.

I also get giddy when my kinks show up in games. So, obviously I enjoy those, too.

If I could wave a magic wand and become Emporer or Lewd Gaming, I would have every game have a baseline vanilla with every kink you can think of as optional.

Since that's not realistic, I like to see what the creators come up with. If you're a creator and you have a kink, throw that stuff in there! Make it optional or not. It's your creation. Just don't let someone kink-shame you into making a vanilla game if that's not what you want to do.
