Does an uncensored version of Urotsukidoji 3 Return of the Overfiend actually exist?

I've bought the DVD years ago, and I remember it saying it was uncut/uncensored, but everything was still blurred out. Was it created that way from the get-go by the animators, or does an unblurred version actually do exist? The completionist/ocd in me makes me annoyed whenever this shit pops in my head because I could never find it. If I could get an answer, I'd appreciate it.

Uncut/uncensored doesn't nessecary mean it has no blur or any other form of explicit censorship, it can also mean that previously cutout scenes are in that version.
Which is the case for the Urotsukidoji animes. The cut-version has no sex scenes, the uncut-version has them, albeit with black or grey shadows as censorship.

Now was that censorship added on over the original, or was it there from the get go by the animators? If it's the former, then shouldn't there be a true uncensored version out there?

The original had censored sex scenes. Then they made a theatrical cut, without the sex scenes. This was the one that was shiped overseas. Then as a DVD version they included the removed sex scenes with the origianl blur. There's also a BluRay, but that was also edited.

Urotsukidoji 2 had "uncensored" scenes, because they where redrawn from the publisher of the western release. So it's not really uncensored.

The overall issue with all this is, that "Urotsukidoji 3 Return of the Overfiend" is the name of the western version. So it only exists as a censored/recut version. Because in every western international release (no matter which part) some scenes got cut/removed, added again, in sometimes in different order and context. They always reedited the existing releasen instead of using the original.

You might want to look up all the japanese versions with their own names, that way you will at least get the intended version, even if still censored/blured, because that's the law in Japan.

Thank you for the great explanation. Do you know a good place to start looking for these different versions?

Actually... sadly no. Urotsukidoji is one of the sterotypical adult animes that pretty much "tainted" any kind of online search, because it is so widespread with many versions. It is very time consuming to look for it.
