Going back to the original topic of this thread

I don't particularly like this genre but I don't hate it either, hentai is hentai and I enjoy all genres with few exceptions (vore, scat, etc).
There are many doujins with ugly bastards and I think there are multiple reasons why:

1. Female depravity - some people find hot the idea of a woman who fell so low that she is willingly having sex with those and even enjoys it.

2. Monster appearence - some of these doujins have questionable fetishes like rape and blackmail and the creators know that these are wrong in real life something that only a monster would do so they design their characters as ugly as possible like monsters also pushing the idea that "normal looking" people should not and would not do these illegal acts.
Think about it in most hentai works rape and blackmail are either done by ugly bastards or blonde haired thugs not by your average looking guy.

3. Boost of self-confidence - many men watching/reading hentai are not exactly known for their self-confidence so by creating ugly looking male characters it gives a boost to the readers: "I'm below average looking but at least I look better than that guy and he managed to have sex with a hot girl then there is hope for me too". Of course only referring to the more vanilla ones not the rape ones.
This also explains why the other protagonists in hentai are average looking.
