How much content is there actually? I'm guessing the mom+son pairing is a no go and that's what the paypigs are desperately hoping for?

I recall there was at least one poll that gumdrop made public where he asked patrons which route they liked better and I think it was meant to be the focus of future releases. The mom+son route won, but just barely (like 55-45). Two questions were folded into one, which route they liked better and what to focus on, so people may have mis-voted.

I think a lot of patrons hold out for the virginal daughter, but they also liked the son route better because there's actual conflict there instead of the sugarcoated dad.

My memory is hazy, but I think that after that poll was in was when he started getting lazy.

Just for the kicks, a little crazy theory.
Note: I only played a couple of first acts and then just extracted graphics for the eye candy, so I may be way off base here.
It's clear the father half of the game has been given more attention. But the father is sugarcoated, he's perfect and faultless. The daughter adores him.
It's as though Gumdrop only wanted to work on the father+daughter route and wanted an excuse to abandon the son part of the game.
Since the son half of the game was given less love, both the son and the mother are less likable as characters, but their story actually has more drama.
When playing as father, you mostly interact with your daughter, and later with the aunt and niece. There are no interactions with your son or your wife to speak of.
But when playing as the son, you get to interact with the mother and with the daughter which is when you (are supposed to) realize the daughter is so much nicer than her mother and the son is (supposed to be) a douche.
Funnily enough, the end result is that you're more invested in the son's story and want to see how it develops because it actually has potential to surprise you (as opposed to the run of the mill dad route).
Maybe Kyle went through a messy divorce himself, has no children (so has no idea that you generally don't go around fucking your children) and wanted to work out his own issues in the game but when he achieved that goal (and made a ton of money in the process), he lost all interest in it?
That would explain both why he lost interest and why the dad route seems very personal, almost intimate (dad is proxy for Gumdrop), while the son route is so detached?

(Or maybe, the guy does have a daughter, fucked her and is now realizing it was sick.)

I didn't see the dad as perfect. He screwed up his marriage. He is just trying to use what time he has left to reconnect with his kids. His son seems to hate him. Then his niece comes along and he sees the trauma behind her antics so he tries his best to save her.

Very unlikely. The only way I see that as a possibility is if enough people stop giving him money that he has no choice but to release content if he wants to start making good money on patreon. And even then, there's no guarantee he'd come back. You don't know what's going on in his real life. For all we know he used to be a college kid and now he's got a full time job so he abandoned the game to focus on his real life career and doesn't have time to work on the game anymore, or doesn't want to devote so much of his free time to making the game. With the money he was making the only reason I can see him abandoning his game is because he had to choose between a normal life or being an incest porn game developer and he probably doesn't want to tell his family and friends that he makes incest porn games for a living.

I'd definitely be in the FD camp. Too bad it won't get finished now

Possible? Sure. Just like it's possible that aliens will land on your house.
Very unlikely. The only way I see that as a possibility is if enough people stop giving him money that he has no choice but to release content if he wants to start making good money on patreon. And even then, there's no guarantee he'd come back.
If he has patrons throwing him money, he gets complacent and lazy. If patrons start quitting, he can claim that since people left, it seems nobody is interested in seeing the game finished, so he'll just abandon the project.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Best case scenario, somebody with actual interest and skill takes over the project (and the Patreon page) from him and exchanges publicity (for the actual developer) for a cut of the profits from Dual Family. Gumdrop Games starts regaining patrons and as long as Dual Family is being developed+a year, Kyle gets a cut of Patreon revenue.
Would that be good for everyone involved? Sure, players would get the game, new dev gets a running start and Kyle gets free money for a while longer, and if quality is good, he will probably more than double his patron count. It would all be down to the actual terms of such an agreement.

Best case scenario
Your best case scenario is to rose colored. This is his baby he is not going to give up his baby until it goes splat.
The actual best case scenario is him finally giving up his scam and just closing his patreon, as he has enough money to make it to retirement. (but I am going to guess this guy is really bad with money. )

I do not want anyone to take over the project anyways. They should start their own and actually do what this game was suppose to set out doing. Father focused on daughter. And Son focused on mom. Instead of father forcefully being hooked up with the niece as the main love interest. Being forced to deal with her shit with no way out. (The game literally gives you an old dragon quest choice of "But thou must")
Only played the sons route once and it seemed he gets pulled into a lot of directions. Also with him having more chemistry and probably a bigger chance of banging his sister aka the daughter first.

I think he's American. He accumulated somewhere between $250-$400k. If he's young-ish, it's way too little for retirement even if he invests it well. Cost of living would eat that money up before he even made it to 50. Buying a house would eat up all that money as well.

And yes, that scenario is definitely rose tinted. That's why it's a best case scenario. I don't think there's anything else that would work out better if you want the game to be finished and if you don't want Kyle messing with it.
Second best case scenario, project management and game development is handed over to somebody competent and hard working, while Kyle stays on board to write text for the game. This one avoids the problem of giving up his baby.

We don't know what's happening. We only have Kyle's word that he's too lazy. But since he defaults to lying, we don't even know if that is true or if anything else happened.
For all we know, he could be dead and somebody took over his Patreon campaign (we know Kyle had some skill in making games, this current owner has demonstrated none).
Another possibility is that he's having second thoughts like Tlaero had over a year ago. She pulled out of writing adult games because it felt uneasy to her and that caused a massive drop in revenue for Tora Productions despite there being a plan of succession in place (Mortze would hire some writer to continue).
He might have finished college and got a real job now, maybe he's in a relationship and his SO would hate what he used to do for ages.
Since Gumdrop defaults to lying all the time, it's impossible to tell.

I am pretty sure the guy is at least North-American. When D+D go to dinner, they do not have wine or something, because the daughter "is not old enough", even when they are celebrating and the daughter must be 18. For instance, here in Germany drinking age in public is 16 for Beer and wine (14 if parents are present), 18 for harder stuff. Private consumption is unregulated. But these are the stricter rules since some Millenials went to binge-drinking excesses a couple of years ago. When I was a teenager, the usual handling was being able to look over the bar without standing on a stool for anything below 16%. The rules and their enforcement were much more relaxed back then.
Anyway, going by that, the game plays in a region with harder alcohol laws and it is right to assume gumdrop comes from there as well.

As for your musings about the Character Family in the game: In parts you are right, in others not. The Dad is not faultless, he was something close to a workaholic, in part due to his nagging wife, until he grew a spine and tried to repair the marriage. He acknowledged that he has do to something.
The daughter is clearly a Daddy´s girl and has partly Elektra-Complex, but it becomes clear in the game and Xmas special, that while D+D share interests and a deep connection this was enhanced by the fact that the mother has a clear favourite among the children, the son. For the mom, the daughter is an afterthought and has been for a long time. (maybe in part because she is so close to her dad?) There is mutual hate between mother and daughter in the main game. Actually I am not convinced that all "dream sequences" of the Dad were dreams. One or two were close to reality enough that they could have been really the daughter, at least up to a point.
The son is a douche bordering on psycho with a faible for Milfs and he knows it.

How does one go about finding out Kyle's real(or full) name?
By social engineering you may try to find something. But I think this guy is smart and cautious enough to hide himself like most of the good scammers and/or dirty money launderers. Though even the smartest can act very stupid time to time.
