Actually the main reason why I watched Madoka Magica, granted along time after I played this.
Honestly better than the (original) anime.
- The engine, or rather the art style, is new/different from most h-rpg's, giving it a fresh air. The art style is faithful to the source, for whatever that weighs, and meshes well with the h aspect.
- The story or rather the premise (of the game) while shallow, fits just fine with me: A new type of which(es), who for whatever reason have decided to infest your basement and make their labyrinths kinky.
- Combat is novel. Each girl has unique, set base stats & skills but they can be customized. It seems to be mentioned elsewhere but the combat system discourages killing off weaker enemies because no matter how many, or little, enemies/allies there are they always play one after the other, so a single enemy can play between every ally. The skills: attacks, buffs & debuffs are a mixed bag - some are great, some mesh well, some are hyper specific, some are short and some are long hauls. None are useless but some overlap between characters. The enemy detection is weird in the beginning but when you get used to it it's just another patrol.
Must be mentioned though that sometimes the difficulty spike is vertical, depending on the skills you have.
- The dungeons: The first thing I took note is that dungeons are skippable. I don't utilize this feature, like, ever, but taking into context that every dungeon is kink focused it made perfect sense to me. Each dungeon has a level cap and I think that's good game design. Some have confusing or clunky layouts - looking at you hypnosis & futa dungeons.
- H-events: There is an H-event after finishing every dungeon, in the kink of that dungeon. There are about 10 or so, and some are more just slice-of-life than sex or even something horny. However, inside the dungeons, the images are dynamic and change based on your status/debuff/kink. Depending on the dungeon they can be more or less obvious & more or less kinky. As far as I'm concerned, there were no kinks that I disliked, only those that were underwhelming - parasites could've been done better; hypnosis, haigure or fat are not my particular cup of tea but I still think they were done ok.
But I have to repeat someone else that there are only h-scenes outside the dungeons, which are regrettably a small amount, considering some are not even horny; there are no h-event inside the dungeon besides the dynamic pose/image change; and it must be said as well that whatever tastes the girls acquire are not transferred outside the dungeon, so they still act like newbies after becoming pros with a kink.
- On the subject of kinks; when a girl get experienced enough she gets a permanent, cross-dungeon stat increase. This is great because when you get these perks that means that the girls are experienced enough that the kink, if it was a penalty now no longer is, and is probably a bonus.
I did find that some dungeons have less equipable items which I dislike-- and now that I watched the anime I question why Homura wasn't included considering how important she is? Maybe made into a 5-person-party, or why we couldn't stick with the 4-person party, but can rotate a member out? There are chats between girls both in & outside the dungeons, both wholesome &horny. I like them all and I'd like that there were even more of them..
There's probably something else I've missed, but I do say that I thoroughly enjoyed this gem of a game - the character interactions, kinky or not, the kinks themselves (were mostly on point), the novel combat, the dynamic changes, the lot of it.
