I played Eternum too early and now no game looks as good. I made a discussion thread and looked at every single game and none of them looked as good so I just cant commit time to playing them.
bro really just turned this into a game or not argument for no reason whatsoeverDangit, you got me excited for a sec since I haven't played it... but it's a VN not a game. Lol, I'll die on this hill.
I have never felt Visual Novels are games. Games require gameplay in my opinion, and a VN is exactly what it says on the tin: a visual novel. A story told in pictures with varying degrees of "Choose Your Own Adventure" options sprinkled throughout.
For example, I highly doubt anyone would call this book a "game":

If you feel VNs are games, what do you think about Kinetic Novels? Are those games? Because those have practically zero input from the player, I would assert that they are even less likely to be considered games when they're basically just a slow-paced film or comic you click through on your screen.
Of course, if you like VNs or KNs then more power to yah, nothing wrong with that at all. I love reading books and watching movies too, but I think we can all agree it would be pretty weird to tell people that I just played the new Predator: Badlands game after watching it in the movie theater. At best I'm just going to confuse everyone involved- "You mean the movie? You watched a movie dude, that's not a game, wtf"
Easier said than done. The visuals are obviously in the top tier for HS2 images, and the plot, especially in plot coherence and planning, characterisation, including the MC's character arc, and presentation are way better than average, especially for a harem game. Not saying you couldn't find better, it's always subjective to a point, but it's easier if you're deliberately looking for a different protagonist, different genres or something with gameplay. So here's an idea: find and play games better than Eternum!
I've had the opposite experience, myself! Doing my own Daz/Blender work has made me really appreciate scenes where I can relate to how technically challenging they are. I often find myself looking at a render and thinking "wow, that took a lot of work and talent."I envy you fellas. Since working on a game all I see are variables, art assets, and gameplay loops. Can't enjoy porn games anymore, dev brain never shuts up, lol.![]()
If we base this solely on visuals and not gameplay or story, Eternum was undoubtedly ahead of its time. But even a modestly skilled dev now who knows his/her lighting, framing and setting and using custom Gen 8.1 or Gen 9 characters with 4k (or even 8k) skin textures will look better than Eternum.Easier said than done. Well, if the ones recommended in that thread ,Ripples and Seven Realms, aren't up to your standards, I don't know what would be.I played Eternum too early and now no game looks as good.
