What I liked:
+ A large cast of love interests for Danzig, the MC, to romance; a very honest harem game without any pretenses.
+ For such a huge, huge, cast of characters, the writing does manage to distinguish them, for the most part, and each has some kind of kink or fetish to distinguish them. For instance, the game inexplicably includes four Japanese girls, all around the same age and related to each other, for Danzig to romance, plus one set of parents, and they all do feel like separate characters with different tastes and romances.
+ The writing has its moments; Romance and humour do land at certain points and do generate some investment in the characters and story. Anna's initial romance was my personal highlight (if you ignore all of the 'swollen vagina' talk).
+ I have mixed feelings about Danzig as the MC, but I feel like his characterisation does slightly improve as the game goes along and he stops being as much of a weirdly bigoted and aggressive asshole, at least if you pick the paragon karma choices. I also like his design, so that might also be working in his favour.
+ The animated sex scenes range from good to OK, they serve their purpose. The writing for them is also not bad.
+ I like the surprisingly large amount of bottom Danzig content and that the game isn't shy or coy about it. The Bi stuff does give the game a bit more spice and something to make it stand out more.
What I'm mixed on:
~ The Second Life(?) models and animations give the game a kind of dated look. It feels like something that would've come out in 2008, not in 2020s. That doesn't make it bad or ugly, but it does stand out a bit and has occasional moments of uncanniness, at least to me (personally I think it's mostly just the skin textures, they make the characters look a bit too smooth and their bodies kind of pudding like, for the lack of a better description)
~ The theme of sissification/feminisation with all of the male love interests. It's just not something I'm into, at all. If this was just an optional fetish, I wouldn't hold it against the game, but I do wish that this was choice that was given to the player, to take the story into that direction. Instead the characters just get completely written out of the story if you don't want them to be feminised, take it or leave it. I don't buy that "You have to be a girl because I'm straight and I can't have sex with a guy" line Danzig gives at one point (especially since he does have sex with them, multiple times, before they are actually 'feminised', so clearly he has no issue with that).
~ The UI and menus, while functional, could really be improved visually, at least with some different font and colour choices. It can be very hard to read or even see the text sometimes. Needs a bit more polish.
~ The combat/stats/skills all feel kind of superfluous so far. They cap way too quickly out of the prologue and then just don't really do anything because there are only a handful of combat situations past that point.
What I didn't like:
- The audio is just bad. The music is way too loud and it is constantly playing, all the time, not a single quiet moment; you'll be hearing the same six or so tracks constantly, over and over again. At a certain point it just becomes funny when 'genericsadmusic.mp4' starts playing, and you're taken out of the scene completely. The same also applies to the sex scenes, where instead of loud music there are instead very loud porn moans that kill the mood and make me laugh. Like does Danzig, of all characters, really need a 'genericsissymoan.mp4' every single time he bottoms? The only other audio note I have is on the goblin characters, their scenes were really annoying to get through because they kept making the 'excitedgoblinnoise.mp4' every other line and I had no patience for it.
- While I did bring up the writing in the positives, I think for most of the game it is honestly kind of bad, and it has nothing to do with the author being a non-native English speaker. I think there are just some fundamental issues with the story and the characters. The motivations and the character development are incredibly shallow and simplistic; while I've mentioned how the girls are all technically different, they are still just various flavours of bland and can be described in a few words like 'nice' or 'likes volleyball'. At the end of the day, they are all eventually reduced to 'buttsluts for Danzig', which, imo, is just very boring. The story's attempts at drama or intrigue just don't work because everything is so milquetoast.
- Sort of related to the writing, the author makes their politics very, very obvious. It's not subtle at all, and the attempts at social and political satirical commentary are frankly atrocious, I have no idea why this is in the game. Characters like Nina are clearly written to be a weird parody of social justice/activism politics, but it all just falls flat and is painfully unfunny, and the attempts to write her seriously are even worse.
- Also egregious is the writing around the trans characters, like Yumiko. Her family, Danzig and the narration all treat her like a delusional joke during her introductory scenes. It all just feels very mean-spirited and cruel for absolutely no reason, and the game has several instances of this kind of dialogue. The trans characters' identity is also usually presented as an extension of the 'feminisation' fetish, where they have all 'awakened' to being women after having anal sex with a guy for the first time (and now realising they can never measure up and wanting to serve men forever, or something), it's a very odd framing. I'll just say that by this reasoning Danzig should've 'awoken' a long time ago with how many dicks and strap-on dildos he has taken by now.
This is a very odd game to me, the presentation and the writing are so janky, and the Second Life visuals only add to this feeling. There's something here and there could be even more if there was even a bit more polish. While I've been very critical and harsh with this review, I don't think this is necessarily a bad game, but at least in my eyes, there's a lot of room for improvement. Right now it's just a collection of sex scenes with pretty Second Life models, which is not bad, but there is potential here for more.
