Hey everyone. I'm a programmer that's been bouncing around an idea for a game in my mind for a while, but I'm having trouble visualizing it. I've got a general idea of some characters I want, a rough story, some character interactions, but I'm actually having trouble coming up with the GAME part of the game. I wanted to know what art styles everyone liked in their games and maybe it would give me some inspiration to better visualize my thoughts.
I'm not that interested in 3d art. It just comes off as a little awkward and ... uncanny valley-ey to me for a lack of a better term. MAYBE if it was heavily cell-shaded or in that vein, but it would add a lot to the programming side. Personally I'm a fan of pixel art (definitely not RPG Maker style though... I'm not at all a fan of any of those games I've run into) or more cartoony styles. Pixel art and hand drawn have very fluid animations, which I think look really nice. I'm sure that level of detail would be pretty work intensive to achieve. I'm also more into western hentai styles than the classic anime/manga styles. Don't let my preferences deter you from showing off what you like though; sometimes good art is just good art no matter what the style!
If you're curious about the game play, it would be a 2D, adventure style game. Might have something like platforming, but I'd rather the focus be on "combat" aspects. I use quotes because the "combat" would be sex based rather than fighting based. I was thinking of using some Kirby like elements of taking aspects from "enemies" (sex partners) to maybe better match against a specific "enemy" type or something like that. I was also thinking of a progression system kind of like E.V.O. for the SNES, where you pick characteristics to shape what sort of character you are. (More monstrous? Animalistic? Magical? etc.) I'd want a choice between male and female protagonists if the project went far enough, but it would start with a male protagonist. There also might be "harem style" aspects for lack of a better term? Still not at all fleshed out though.
