I've played this game before, the 1.14 version if I remember correctly. I hit the end of content at that time, and intended to keep up with development on it...but that didn't happen, because of how slow that development was.
Now, several years later, the game has been declared "finished", and I came around to play it again.
Faylinn's Quest is pretty awful.
The biggest issue are the inconsistencies.
Sometimes you're given an option to kill a lone traveler, other times you aren't. Sometimes an enemy will die in one shot, other times that same enemy can dodge six atacks in a row then decimate you. And this kind of behaviour certainly lessens Faylinn's Quest's appeal as a game, but truth be told it hardly tries in that department, so how does Faylinn's Quest perform as an adult title?
Also pretty awful, because the inconsistency exists there as well. Sometimes you're given dialogue options that can greatly define Faylinn's personality, other times the games speaks for her and gives her a completely different personality. Sometimes the game provides fake paths, sometimes the paths actually exist, are mutually exclusive, and lock you out of content. You just never know what to expect out of the game and the expectations it does establish are constantly betrayed.
Something I want to note especially is that I'm very uncertain of the demographic the developers were going for. First off, female protagonists aren't very popular, secondly the cast consists mostly of females with a slightly smaller number of males sprinkled throughout, thirdly these males are absolutely shoved in your face when they do pop up. No, like, seriously, for a game with a female protagonist and a cast consisting mostly of females, there is an unbelievable, unavoidable focus on dick.
Here's an example:
Touching on the art, it's mostly serviceable with the occasional piece looking very bad. However, the most note-worthy thing about the art are the sprites, they're constantly cut off without any attempt to hide it. Konrad, one of the males, is the worst offender, because he has a large two-handed weapon that disappears close to the end, but others aren't even placed on the bottom of the screen and you can clearly see where the legs end.
Also, why in the world would you put quick time events in a hentai game?
Lastly, the game is prone to buggy behaviour. Softlocks resulting from this is entirely possible, and at the very least it's very likely you'll be content-blocked.
Overall, Faylinn's Quest manages to create a couple of interesting characters through sheer volume rather than quality, which is hardly surprising because nothing about the game speaks to a sense of quality. It is an absolute mess in the worst sense.
