2017. I first saw this game in September 2017.
The sandbox concept proved to be too ambitious, so the scope shrank and shrank until here we are, but I suspect that CS has still not written a complete outline of the story. Instead, he writes episodes of an ongoing series and makes it up as he goes.
I didn't detect a plot the last time I played it, just a general direction of travel. No wonder he struggles. He has one character with a goal, but no way of actively working towards that goal, so she just works another shift at the bar and nothing really happens. Or goes on a night out and nothing really happens. CS tries and tries to liven it up and can't, because there's nothing for his protagonist to do, no antagonist, no conflict, no drama, nothing.
I think he would figure out the problem if he was spending more time on the game. I don't believe for a moment that he is working on it full time. I reckon the Patreon income was nice, but not enough, so he went back to a real job and now works on FA for maybe a couple hours a week, probably wrestling with writer's block for most of that time.
The game is vaporware. It will continue in development for years and never be finished. CS will eventually get bored of posting updates and disappear. Before this game is done, a religious dictatorship will take over Thailand and shut down the Bangkok sex industry forever.
I don't think a linear story was ever planned. FA was intended to be a sandbox game, with a beginning, an end and lots of sex in the middle. CS described some of the updates as optional content. These were supposed to be side quests. If you actually plan a story and characters, writing is actually way easier than say an average person who may not consider themselves great at writing may think.
