I tend to avoid games with a female protagonist just because most of them put the MC in a submissive, passive, or humiliating role, and that's not my thing. I prefer to play more active/dominant types of character, not the stepmom getting her head stuck in the dryer or whatever. I know that's a generalization but man there's a lot of it.
There's definitely an underserved market for a different kind of female protagonist, or games allowing the player to define the MC as either male or female. Of course, badly written female protagonists stick out even more than badly written male protagonists, so...
