I'm shocked that the votes are split right down the middle like they are. Thought the preference for a male protagonist would win by a landslide.

I know, right?
I thought so too when I started this thing. But, it's been quite fascinating to hear people's preferences and discuss those preferences with all these fine people.

I expected it to be split in the middle. The vast majority of players being straight male, it's split between the more immersive players who relate to their characters and thus prefer male protagonists and those who simple react to optical stimuli and thus favor female protagonists. It's a fairly similar situation with main characters in MMORPGs.

It would be interesting though, how many players like futa, trans, inter or otherwise gender bending characters (it's clearly not my cup of tea).

I usually prefer female prot, just because generally it generates more encounters. F on F and F on M.
I respect male homosexuality but I just don't care/Don't get a hardon from it, so it's mostly a win-win for me when the protagonist is a female, just because it'll generate more diversity on the scenes, and it opens up the playfield for things like Futa on FMC which is one of my top fetishes xD

Thanks for your input, man.
But I'm pretty sure you got that backwards. Did you actually mean to say: Male protagonists are for the immersive players, while female are for the optical?

Just want to be certain that you didn't mis-type that.
It's just that we've been discussing this at length on this thread and have come to a very different conclusion (or, at the very least, I have). Therefore it just feels odd for someone to burst in and completely contradict every previous dialogue with no references.

Love and peace, SAFFID.

That is what he said. He said the straight male players play male protags for immersion and/or they play female protags for the eye candy.

I mostly prefer male protagonists because I played so many games as a "male" that's like a force of habit. But I have and do play some female protagonist games for a simple reason. They are good to look at and generally get some good options like F/F sexual encounters. I do like watching 2 girls have sex IRL so that is a kink for me as well. And in many cases, they often instigate 3somes more than male protags in several games.

Personally I can't stand it, when a male character, whether he's the protagonist or not, interferes with a lesbian scene. For me it ruins the scene and is like pouring cold water over my dick.

I recommend trying out the game The Last Sovereign. One of the best RPGs I have ever played tbh. And I like playing as a male because I myself am male. I hate playing as a girl and playing as a guy who immediately transforms into a girl even more. It just ruins it for me.

that totally depend of the way its put in teh game.
i remember a game , i think its from Tlaero or Morzte, i forget, where you play as a male and they are 2 lesbian girls having relation together. at one moment, you can make the male join the 2 girls and its pretty well implented because the guy didnt force anything and it go smooth.

its a turn off when the guy is kind of forced to go in the 3some or if he is too macho or something. but if its pretty well done on the romantic/erotic style, its easy and good to enjoy.

( i cant remember the game name, but i m pretty sure its from Mortze, its a story about a guy and the 2 lesbian girl are a singer/star and a police officer. i think the guy name is Mark.. its an html game style )

edit :

here the game i was talking about. :)

I really can't think of a situation where I'd like male interference in a lesbian scene, whether in a loving nor in a forced way. It just destroys the scenery for me. I favor games, that can be played 100% lesbian. There may have been straight relationships in the women's past that still influence the story, but no male characters interfering in the sex scenes.

Transformation is also a kink I strongly dislike. A female character should be a female character and certainly not a transformed male. I don't mind some quests to get in rid of a sex change belt in regular games, but not in porn games please!

Ah yes, the good ol' Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity. Fun times.:)
I too don't like this kink.

if its about your standard game, i dont really have preferences. but for adult-h games, i rather play as male protag. first off all theres like way too much adult jp games commonly in rpgmaker where you play as female protagonist and you have to "sex" your way to completion by selling your body to random people and/or monsters. gangbang with 1 f and lots of m and swinging aint my thing. also im not very keen into f into f type of action. it would be a different story if its a m f f stuff.

on the other hand, i really enjoy playing as male protagonist and "harem" type of stuff where you play as this powerful guy that just do whatever he wants eg:rance. i like games because its a fantasy, its not something you can experience in real life. being a male irl and playing as a guy makes me able to relate and immerse myself in the game, what it feels like to be in the guy shoes

I feel indifferent tbh when it comes to playing as a male or female protagonist. As long as they manage to be interesting and theres some straight content involved if its an h game it works for me.

I wouldn't say enamored. It's all in immersion, how deep you are into that role which you play. Otherwise you will not enjoy fully in the game. If you are going only for fap material, then there are others sites just for that. Type, select, play, fap and that's it. At least there are real ppl, you don't need to imagine anything.;)
I favor story-heavy and/or gameplay-heavy games, quick fap is definitely not for me. But "immersion" doesn't mean you should put no distance whatsoever between no and fictional characters. Not liking NTR is fine but sometimes it may be an important plot point or a turning moment for a character. The sheer paranoia about NTR that I see sometimes does strike me as excessive.
Hey man. We all appreciate your input.
But who are you talking to Duke Silver?
I was replying to the post just above mine. Forgot to quote it, sorry for the confusion.

Anyway this isn't a thread about NTR so my apologies for derailing it somewhat. Just wanted to reply to people who quoted me.

I generally prefer male protags, since the tropes favour a more game-y experience (the chase and the catch and all that shit), which addresses the meat and potatoes of why I'm even into this particular hobby.

Don't mind female protags, and find their stories are often more nuanced (or maybe that's just because I play less of the filler), but it just doesn't scratch the itch as much, so I don't play as many. Enjoyed the Eleanor games, Lily of the Valley, A Wife and Mother, and a couple more.

---Male Protags---
+I am male as well, easier to play threw their eyes.
+Often more girls since art is only ever about the cute girls.
+Often dominant, so no fear of getting cucked unless your an idiot or its that type of game.
-Often lacking in personality. They're fairly simple characters.
-Lack of risk thus lack of thrill.
-Never any corruption unless its a decent into jackassery.

---Female Protags---
+I am an open minded person, I can get into the perception of a woman.
+Focus' on one or a few girls.
+More to lose, Female Protags get to be virgins in some games so you can risk and tow the line between losing something and not. After getting deflowered it can happen again this time with tempting pregnancy.
+Monopoly on exhibitionism.
+Monopoly on clothes changing systems.
+? Monopoly of rape/Forced.
-Many male characters are ugly, super stereotypes, or even cut outs with no eyes.
-Easier to fuck up the game when making it.
