Version: Season 2 Ep.2
Freshwomen is weird. on the surface it seems like a 5 stars game and it took me quite a while to figure why I disliked it.
You play as a young man who lost his memory in an accident, after regaining some of the memory back you decide to move back to the town you grew up in to enroll to college and to search for MC's dad disappearances.
Soon enough you find yourself meeting all sorts of LI's, they seem pretty diverse and interesting, but more on that later.
The plot is pretty whacky but written well enough, the dialogues are up to par, everything is very pretty and the sex scenes are long, animated, and plenty.
Sounds like a 5 star review so far, doesn't it? but if you look closely the cracks starts to show.
You get no chance to care for the LI's, you spend some time with them but at no point did I care for any of them, they feel shallow, almost robotic at times, they only exist to serve their part in MC's life and it shows.
Part of it can be attributed to the fact things move quickly, too quickly. you meet a girl in a caffee and before even realising it you're part of her dance crew and sleep in her dance studio. you meet a girl in a book store and in a moment she's leading the investigation into MC's dad, it doesn't feel organic or real.
The other part is about the characters only existing to serve their role in MC's life, there are background stories, the LI's have interests and hobbies, but we never actually see that, every single interaction is a way for the LI's to progress the main plot, leads to sex almost immediately or is used to reinforce the specific LI's one single characteristic (frusrated spouse, nerdy investigator, bitchy, playful, etc), once again it all felt synthetic and caused me to disengage.
Well, there's a third thing actually. these are freshwomen, they are young, allegedly inexperienced, yet every single one of them is a horned up sex fiend that is an expert in sucking cock and providing pleasure. not only it is weird, it feels like a cheap, pointless porno.
It's like everything is made (in a very rushed way) to either progress the main plot or lead to a sex scene, there's nothing in between, no random casual interactions, no small moments to make the characters feels more real or to form any real connection to them.
So overall, on a quick glance FreshWomen is technically pretty amazing, it looks good, it sounds good, its technically well written, but its just as shallow as it is pretty, and at times feels dry and soulless.
Definitely give it a go if you like pretty pictures and don't mind skipping dialogue / gallery mod.
