Muramasa is one of the best VN's of all time, and the title that reminded me of the quality writing you can find in VNs. Many who heard about Muramasa, know it talks about good and evil, right and wrong, justice and injustice, but there's a lot more going on there, and what I want to convey is that this a real masterpiece.
Positive:
- MANY amazing characters (kageaki, Muramasa, chachamaru, sorimachi...) and "literary" depth, development, interactions (closer to a book, than a VN).
- The OST has many excellent tracks, that could go on a playlist, and voice acting is very good (protagonist is voiced too).
- Solid action scenes (fights with "mecha"), especially if you consider the release date. Supernatural that actually makes sense, improves them further.
- Great writing, setting and story, but heroine route quality can be uneven.
- A ton of subjective content for you to think about. Intellectual reward, if you will.
- It has a mature world and themes (starts with high school, but you will see).
- Production values were very good back in the day, and the art still holds (it's still an old VN).
Negative:
- You should use a guide. Choices in Muramasa are a bit different from other VN's (it's the outcome, not the choice itself), and the "airship" section, for instance, is just plain annoying. The pacing varies greatly too, and this is a very long VN.
Score: It's a 10/10 and my favorite VN. It's true that "mathematically", some recent releases have surpassed it (type-moon remasters), but you know how subjectivity works, and Muramasa was released in 2009. If you are already familiar with VN's, and haven't read Muramasa, I think you should try it, it's a true Kamige.
(This is a very long VN with few h-scenes)
