I played through version 0.1 of Game Night, and honestly, it turned out pretty much as I expected. From what I’ve seen so far, this looks like it’s going to follow a similar formula to the developer’s previous title, Couples.
Even though there isn’t an official tag for it yet, I think this game will end up being more of a kinetic story than one driven by player choice. The “choices” you do get are mostly limited to what questions to ask, but since you’ll eventually click through all of them anyway, it doesn’t really add much interactivity.
The dialogue itself is fairly dry and covers mostly mundane, everyday topics. There’s not a lot of emotional depth or engaging banter here — it feels more like filler than meaningful character development.
On the positive side, the renders aren’t terrible. They’re very much in line with Couples — decent quality but nothing particularly standout. Unfortunately, the characters don’t show much emotion in the visuals, which is disappointing. I was hoping to see the developer improve in that area compared to their earlier work.
There are also a few technical issues. Typos pop up throughout the dialogue, and sometimes the visuals don’t quite match what’s happening in the scene. For example, during one dinner scene, the MC says he’ll have white wine, but the render clearly shows him drinking red. It’s a small detail, but it breaks immersion.
Overall, Game Night has potential, but it feels like a very safe and predictable follow-up rather than a step forward. I’d like to see the developer push for more expressive character renders, tighter writing, and perhaps some actual choices that matter.
For now, I’ll probably only revisit this game when I don’t have much else to play.
