I'm currently working on the plot for a visual novel and I was wondering, what do you distinguished people think about gay/bisexual content in a sharing(netorase) setting?

I don't think i played a game with this setting, i feel like gay content is very limited in the porn game industry.

would you want to see bisexual content in a visual novel or would you skip it?

Currently i'm thinking about making bisexual content but i'm afraid the "gay" tag would simply scare players away and i'm not sure making a switch to turn it on/off would be worth the time invested if only 10 % of the player would play this side of the content. especially if the main theme is Netorase(sharing/swinging) and the gay content is secondary, possibly coupled with some gentle femdom elements.

what are your thought?

It certainly will. I was surprised that for some people it is a big deal. Actually I WAS asked to put a gender filter in the game, and surprisingly many people used it to filter out male NPCs. And hose that didn't use it still wrote that they would have preferred to not see others dicks on the screen without a warning.

Depends on the game. You can simply add way to skip some scenes with a warning like "Next scene can contain some bisexual content, skip it? Y/N"

There's a lack in bisexual male protagonist games but not in the bisexual female protagonist games. If straight female players can ignore lesbian route, straight male players can ignore gay route, it won't affect their sexuality.

I think you're worried about nothing and if that's how you're approaching whether or not to make a game, don't make the game.

There are almost 8 million registered accounts on F95. There are at least 100x that number of people who play adult video games.

If even 1% of them are gay or enjoy gay content, that's still 80,000 accounts on F95 and 8 million players.

Build the game you want to build.

Depends on the content, theres plenty of games aimed at straight men with gay tag but the content there is sructured to appeal to that audience. Often its associated with powerplays like femdom, ntr, coerced bisexuality, degradation, sissification.
If you made the content be about romance or home building with 2 men, imagery of masculine guys consensually licking each other, no women in sight and no (fem)domination games then that may repulse the gamers.

There's also to take in count the fact that most peoples who would react negatively just because there's a "gay" tag, would also react as negatively to tags like "harem", "futa", "ntr" or whatever are the contents they can't stand. So, why bother?

all previous posts have good points, i guess i'll just make the stuff i want to make and see how it's received and adapt from here.

fair enough, the audience that screech and whine when a ntr game has ntr in it is not the audience i want to entertain anyway :)

welp, the idea is 2 men 2 girls in a sharing/swinging setting, i also want our male attracted brethren to be able to have some content to sate their hunger but it wouldn't be in a exclusively homosexual setting, it would be coerced bisexual but in a rather wholesome way and not "you're gay now, faggot" kind of scenario.

yeah, i guess i'll figure out a way to warn/skip bi scenes without it impacting the story. i like the idea of player having an agency in the content they engage with in a game.
I'd just like it to be a bit more nuanced than "DO YOU WANT TO SUCK DICK YES/NO?".
ideally a stat based balance that would interpret if the player is rather Sub or Dom, as i supposed Sub player may be more attracted to the idea of a goth chick seductively asking them to suck another man's peepee than Dom gigachads.

there's this weird cultural thing in the west with some straight men being morbidly afraid of proximity to penises other than their own (not only out of fear of contracting homosexuality but also in relation to some stupid social standing stuff), and those specimens seem louder than full-on straight female users here, but as has already been said, it's safe to ignore them.

i'm afraid the "gay" tag would simply scare players away
a notice in the opening post about the avoidance status of neuralgic themes + at the start of the game should be enough imho.

by the way, in the distant future there should be an option to mark tags as avoidable.

Ntr/nts boys are mostly closeted homosexuals so I would think is a good idea, just make sure to include BBCs and make everything "avoidable" so they can keep pretending they are straight and are not going to play those gay bits. Best of luck (y):coffee:

The fuck is the above comment :BootyTime:

The title of the thread baited a bit, one thing is bi/gay content and bi/gay content in a sharing setting. I personally don't like it because most times it's the protagonist in a submissive context (in a ntr/s work who would have thought :HideThePain:) but i know that people who like it search and yearn for it, take for example the games Artificial Blood and Ntr Bunnies, in these for what it's spoken about them the nts with bi/gay content is like almost 100% for AB and 50%? for NB, and this dev does super well, maybe it's the art quality but i would argue that commitment to his/her niche tastes is a major reason behind it.

So my advice would be if you add it to really commit to it in the game, or else people who want this niche plot will be bummed out and ntr/s and gay/bi haters will not even look at the game anyway.

But the most important things of all is to have fun and do the game you like and would want to play, because if it isn't a money thing working in appease to others will only drain you out more quickly.
