Mostly I assume it's done to add some "sex-scenes" into the early game so people get a taste without impacting the overall story. Personally I don't care much for fantasies and dream sequences, if you need early porn content either find a more interesting venue, and if you can't, just don't have it.

I dunno maybe I'm wrong, but for me VN's aren't just slideshows of pictures, they aren't just meaningless jerk off material.
They are meant to tell a story and for it you need to establish a believable world with relatable characters. So not everything in those games is there to arouse the player, some things are there to built that world and story.
All scenes of MC jerking off, that I can remember are completely justified by the story. It'd be weird if devs started to censor/avoid scenes like that.
