Ren'Py - God among Kings [v0.23] [SolidDoc]

Will say, do like the ancient music that plays at the start menu. Really does feel like you are being transported back in time. Despite the artwork of the characters looking 3D drawn. Though do recommend changing the black and white box for the user interface for something more flashy. Is just so weird to see this harem anime poster with beautiful women then a emotionless text box with just basic inputs. Give the options some color. This is what helps the Discord, Patreon, and Subscribe-Star icons pop a little. The same for the Changelog at the bottom right. They are blocking the view to the characters boobs.

Do question how the MC is not wearing any armor on his chest. Seems like an easy way to get stabbed but this is also a porn game to let that slide. Did find out later in the game that he does wear armor so retract this comment.

Also recommend for the starting enemies that you give them crappier armor. They should not be in full plate armor yet go down in one hit with only 6-8 health. Recommend making this more a bandit attack. Or even a light monster attack to get the players ready for the real threat.

And while do find some of the outfits (or lack their of) cannot deny all the ladies look amazing in their own way. How Sherry’s is more exposed but form fitting. Showing her specialty of a fast attacker. How Heimdal is just covered in armor that is gold. Showing her almost angelic appearance. Even love her nickname of being the mountain. Both for her height and resistance to damage but also her huge boobs.

Would also like a feature where you can speed up the gameplay for the enemies. When it is the enemies turn, you can simply hold down spacebar and the combat would go by super fast.

Also wish that when the enemy soldier surrender in the Prologue, you are given the choice to eighter kill them for experience and to strike fear into the hearts of your enemies or let them surrender. Would help with making it feel like you are a king who needs to decide how to manage your kingdom.

I’m also amazed how difficult the Prologue is for the combat. Now, I am not a master strategist as my understanding is at the level of the Pokemon’s system but man, the prologue was not easy. Fighting an enemy force three times your size and no one on your side can die.

Also did not for a moment buy that Madam Faircliff is a real character. Just a person to stick up to the main character to get angry at. Not cunning in that she knows how dangerous her situation is. Not smart to attempt to flee the castle. Not a slut who knows how to use her body to get the man to drop his metal sword for his ‘other’ sword.

And speaking of characters, just not a fan of the protagionist, Kreios. Now, do not get me wrong. Writing asshole characters is an art. Very hard to pull off to make their duchy decisions come off as cool. The only characters I can think of that pulled this off were Legacy of Kain with Kain. And Brom from Game of Thrones. Both were jerks who would not hesitate to kill women and children to get what they want yet has a charisma about them that pulled you in. Kreios does not have that charisma. More a Joffery Baratheon than Brom.

Thought with that said about Kreios, was amazed later in the story when he starts training with Elanor. How when they talk, Kreios admits that Eleanor has every reason to come after him and kill him. I loved that part. How he recognizes that what he did to her family was cruel but still wants to train her anyway because she has potential.

And this next part is fan service but hope there is a in-lore reason for why all your soldiers are female. Am hoping it is something like the other porn game, TG Emblem where every time you defeat the enemy, you turn then into horny sluts. Explaining why there are so few men in your nation. Maybe your sister works in the shadows to provide Kreios an army of women to serve him.

Did like the leisure time for the MC to spend time with his harem. Maybe even add in some scenes depending on how many kisses, hugs, and sex you have with each character.

And this goes back to an earlier comment but wow, this game is hard. I tried attacking a town where your goal is to kill the general on the other side of a courtyard and man, you have to fight a force that is six times bigger than yours. Not helped that the enemies are one level above you. I was expecting this kind of difficulty spike later in the game, not the second main mission but that might just be me needing to grind some units so am nervous to complain about it too much.

The key signature of this game is that it is a turn base strategy game with management element in a visual novel setting. This game does not lean heavy into dramatic or emotional story as seen in other pure visual novel. Although, that does not mean there is no story here. In fact, I really like the direction going on in this game. But do not play this game with the mind set of visual novel commonly seen in this site. The gameplay it self are rather simple, but I find it to be fun. If you are looking for a challenge, this game is likely not for you. To sum it up, If you want a chill time playing turn base combat game with a fun story, try out this game. However, there are elements in the story that are not so chill like slavery and such. Just so you know

At first I was intrigued as there is a gameplay element to this game that I found interesting. Firstly, there are battles to be fought in a simple but effective system (similar to the Advance Wars franchise), and there's also a macro system which could eventually become a fun strategy simulator, where you're building income and controlling armies etc. I don't know what the macro system eventually turns into as I gave up on this game before then.

My disappointment is from the fact that despite there being a varied cast of good looking female characters, the visual novel aspect of the game is very poorly handled. The female characters are unfortunately nothing more than sex toys for the unbearably arrogant main character. I suppose it's meant to be an extreme male dom setting, but this doesn't work when there are no redeeming qualities in the MC and the female cast is already reduced to no-agency bimbo's from the get-go.

Despite there being little writing but lewd scenes, they themselves feel very rushed, with the renders being much worse quality than I thought from the previews. With no characterization and no build-up you might as well just download the animations and watch those without playing the game, if that does it for you.

All in all, very little care is taken in the VN portion of the game, and the rest of the gameplay is fine relative to what you'd expect on this site, meaning it's not nearly enough to carry this game on its own.

First thing first... I honestly expected this to be yet another mindless power fantasy fuckfest.

Was it a power fantasy? Absolutely. Was it a fuckfest? You have that too. But was it mindless? Surely you jest. I can't say anything much without spoiling the story, but let me just say I'm hooked from start to end. I spent about 8 sessions, 6 hours each. And I think it was mostly carried by the MC being likeable. To both players and those he holds dear.

On the technical side, playing the game doesn't feel like playing a Ren'Py game at all. Props to that. I enjoy it. In fact all of my prior experience with gameplay like this is achieved in Unity, with devs claiming Ren'Py was unable to fulfill the demands.

Of course it's not all sunshine and rainbow. You don't really get to interact with the world and its inhabitants - you interact with pieces of story. Sometimes combat. Mostly linear btw. And when the day ends you get a single render of the act, if you so choose. But I don't think it worths taking off one star, for I enjoy the game with or without. After all, what I truly care about is the waifus.

Overall, I think this is a game worth trying and looking forward to be developed. Best of luck to devs.

This is actually surprisingly good for all that's involved. It's much more ambitious than you would reasonably expect for fap material. The characters have motivation and show development. The story is good and I enjoy it and it's potential for growth. You have both a power fantasy as well as sexual fantasy here, and the game play also shows high quality and thought. With options to over power yourself if you want to click through the Tactical battles without difficulty to get to the story or smut faster. The fact that it has a developed Tactical game in this genre sets it apart, and it's a good one rather than just distinctive. I look forward to updates.

This game has one of the few stories i've seen on here that don't make me skip through the text. I cannot stress how big of a deal that is.

The early fights are a little tedious, but there's a God Mode option and the amount of combat drastically reduces as the game goes on.

Also all of the characters on here are so well written and designged. Tons of variety both visually and in design.

This shit is the cream of the crop of VN's. It has a fitting name because it really is a God among kings in terms of story games.

underrated game, MC is refreshing because he actually has a spine and isn't a doormat. sex scenes are not animated but look pretty good. the story is also intriguing, can't wait to learn more about MC's background.

i would have liked to play the combat since the mechanics actually looked pretty good for a renpy game, and would have been interesting. however, it got really boring for me personally due to the lack of animation during battle besides from the default one for each character. 4.5/5.

Review for v0.192

God among Kings feels like a rough cut gem. While I think there is something of value within, there's just too many aspects holding it back for me right now to be able to truly enjoy it. Fair mention that I didn't play all available content, since being candid I just wasn't invested enough.

I'm a fan of strategy RPG-style games and lewd versions of them are something I wish there was more of. To the games credit, this is one of the better takes I've played as far as lewd games tend to go. The fire emblem inspired combat works well enough in the battles I played and there's some depth there with unit types and abilities. I hadn't messed around with it too much, but there's always something satisfyingly about looking at a big map and managing your kingdom as well. This has a nice foundation for that.

I think my first problem comes down to the writing. While a lot of events and characters peaked my interest, it never got deeper than that. I was sort of waiting for a longer event to kind of ground the game somewhat and really establish both the characters and the story a bit more. Instead, all of the events I played had felt like nothing more than brief encounters. They get some important info across, but didn't go much deeper.

This goes doubly for the sex scenes, and is probably my biggest complaint about the game. To put it bluntly: the sex scenes suck. They almost feel like they were designed to say "yeah this guy, the mc, fucks" but not be actually... jerked off to? They aren't animated, run short, and end abruptly. They don't feel intimate. Especially the end of turn scenes that are just a single render with no dialogue and a minimalistic background. I'd get having some quicker ones with unimportant characters, but even for what seem to be our closest companions this happens to. Just felt disappointing more than anything to me.

As for other miscellaneous feedback I actually do like the character designs, and from the glimpses of their personalities they seem like fun characters. Even the MC I can see having a satisfying character arc of growing more mature from the sort of cocky attitude he has now. I'll say the UI sucks and I wouldn't mind more sound effects and music either.

Again I do feel like this is a better take on the genre for adult games, but despite the potential I just wasn't hooked enough to really want to delve into it. I think it's a game to keep an eye on for sure if you're into the genre, but as of this version I'm not "in" so to speak.

I had so much fun while playing, people here definitely need to know the potential of this game, I will make this review short.

1st. Renders are good, character designing to graphics everything was good, every girl's beautiful and have good attitude.

2nd. I always like the game with good MC and this game have badass MC, at least from what I saw this game's MC seems to me a badass type.

3rd. Story is interesting, and MC have a purpose in his life not our typical whim MC.

4th. That rpg setting is good, this type of things makes the game more interesting, like you will get juicy content and gameplay both just need sound effects which is fine by me, one more thing it may have rpg tag but this game is not a grinder machine, rpg was good even if you can't handle the battles there's a god mod which will give you a easy win at every battle.

Overall game is good, for those who loves story with good MC and want some gameplay too, then this game is for you give a shot if you're reading my review, I must say this game is not for those who are NTR dreamers, not for those who are here just for fap.

Plot: Meh. I don't feel like explaining. (4/5)

Characters: Well, all the girls have a decent/good design, characterized stereotypically, but in a way that works for a harem. The problem is the protagonist's appearance... he has a face that gives you chills. Seriously, I don't know what the author was smoking to think, "Oh yeah, that’s fine," it looks like it came out of a Dr. Seuss book. (3/5)

Gameplay: THE MOST FUN GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED ON THIS SITE (MAYBE, I really like strategic ones). It's basically the gameplay of "Fire Emblem" or so. It’s not always perfectly balanced, and after the initial phases, it tends to get easy, but more than once, I had fun. Of course, the battle maps are very crude, sometimes quite chunky played by Android, but the base is good. (5/5)

Scenes: Meh, meh, meh. No animated scenes, I don't think the lighting is used well in most images, and overall, I didn’t find it very exciting. Also, the mediocre dialogues during the spicier scenes don’t help. (2/5)

Final Thoughts: In my opinion, the most fun part of the game is the battles, nothing incredibly strategic but quite fun.

Decent game when it comes to the premise and story. The idea of a "roguish" noble who sort of fell into the position suits this type of game well. The combat even feels somewhat enjoyable even though if a bit simple. This game actually hits the nail of what most sandbox especially adult sandbox games should strive for, which is not too much grind. However, models are either too exaggerated or too "cartoony". Aside from that this also suffers from the repetition of the feared radiant quests with bandits. Even worse these bandits require energy to face them meaning you will lose energy to do other events,

So far it has been a really good game and pleasant experience. Dev did a good job of implementing RPG elements into renpy as well as a (so far) not tiring combat mode - at least for me.

The plot is intriguing and well supported by a variety of interesting characters. Each of them coming with their own personality and we can see some nice progressions for some. Also the fact that there's a kind of equal power dynamic between the main characters in interactions gives the game a refreshing (and to me more interesting) spin on the usual "damsel in distress" harem take.

Graphics might not be top notch, but the chosen models look good as do the character designs. Along with well chosen ambient music it overall leaves a positive impression on me. As an other reviewer said "don't judge a book by its cover".

I will be following the progression of this game, I see some good potential here.

Good game, very good one, the only downside or downsides is the first you don't have repeatedly scenes with the LIs, and second, the combat are the same, no change no challenge or change in the combat, the enemys are the same and offer no challenge or don't make the game hard.

A pretty good turn-based strategy game with VN elements. The story is good, not the greatest historical story telling, but good enough for the game. The girls models are cute and beautiful.

The combat at some times are pretty tough, at some times too easy. Moderating it will be good.

Overall a good blend of Gameplay and Story telling.
But there is room for more improvement in balancing these two.

The game is great, it has excellent implementation of RPG and turn based combat in Renpy. And looking at the message from the dev it looks like he might implement auto skip or something. Considering we alredy have cheats its a + for ppl who ONLY want the VN part.

The graphics may not be on par for what many ppl expect in 2024 but the story and the character development of MC and the girls is on a whole another level. Its a perfect example of "Dont judge a book by its cover"

Characters and thier personalities are varied and hold more weight in the story, some character may start of as just another girl for sex but the depth of thier character is explored later on which is a breath of fresh air.

This is a solid game with a good balance between action/fights and lewd scenes. SolidDoc is doing very good work. Clearly the graphics and the scenes could be improved but it's easy to perceive all the hard work he's putting in the game. If the graphics improved it would probably be worth 5 stars for me.

Okay, to kick off this review I want to say that I really dig the fire emblem inspired combat in this game. It's a cool concept, although the combat can get a bit annoying at times, especially in the earlier versions where the balancing wasn't that great. But hey, the developer is working hard to make it accessible to everyone and not let it ruin the enjoyment of the story, and that's awesome.

Anyways, I've been following this game since the beginning and played every single update so far. The story is decent, although it hasn't been explored much yet since it's still early in the game. There are only a few main missions, with most of the content being side stuff you do with the girls, like getting to know the new ones and all that.

The main character is pretty cool. He's got a unique design and I love his personality. But that's where it ends. You don't really have any input in his character at all. He's already an established person and you basically have no control over his story. Instead of feeling like you're playing as him, it feels more like you're opening a book and watching his story unfold. There are no choices, so it's definitely a linear experience so far. Maybe the developer will add some choices in the future, who knows? Also, you can't even name the main character. He acts on his own, which, while it may work in certain games, isn't handled that well in this one.

Most games on this platform allow us to insert ourselves into the character. It can be as simple as letting us change the main character's name or making some basic choices. But hey, I won't be too hard on the developer for their decisions so far. They've clearly put a lot of effort into this project. However, I'll still give my criticisms because I genuinely like this game and see its potential to be great. Although, the biggest issue so far is the sex scenes.

Now, I just want to say that it's totally fine if the focus is on the gameplay and combat for now. But let's not forget that this is a porn game on a pirating site, and it's mostly meant for, well, you know, porn.

Many people here play these games solely for the sexual content. They often skip through the dialogue and story just to get to the sex scenes. Unfortunately, this is where the game falls short. The sex scenes are brief, with minimal dialogue and only 1-3 renders showing the main character engaging in sex with other characters. It's quite disappointing, as there is no real sexual tension or anything that would genuinely arouse me. While the female characters are attractive and their models are unique, they only have a few lines of dialogue before the scene abruptly ends. It's like reading a romance novel that censors the intimate moments. It's definitely not a good sign. Most of the game revolves around combat, and outside the side content, the interactions with female characters are limited to these short sex scenes. There is no build-up or anticipation.

The developer should really invest more time and effort into improving the sexual content, considering that this is, after all, a porn game. Yes, the combat is important, but most players come here for the sex scenes, with the story being a bonus. If the story were truly engaging, it could make up for the lackluster porn, but right now, the story is mediocre and the sexual content is almost non-existent. The game already has several sex scenes, but they are all disappointingly short. This aspect definitely needs more attention.

I apologize for the rant, but I genuinely feel like I've wasted my time coming back to this game, only to be let down by the underwhelming sex scenes. Despite this, I will still give it a three-star rating for its solid foundation and the potential for a great story. However, the sexual content is where it truly falls short.

I really enjoyed playing this game, for its story, characters, MC, combat, kingdom management and quests.
As far as the story is concerned, the only complaint I'd have is that it's sorely lacking in an intro; as soon as you launch the game, you're thrown into a fight, but you know nothing about who, what, how or why.
I really liked the characters, from what I understand, most of the roses were rescued, each with their own story, and I can't wait to find out more about each of them.
I like the MC's character, even if he's arrogant at first glance, he's not a jerk, he knows his strength and loves his roses a lot.
As for the fights, I rather like the principle with the skills, but the balancing needs to be reviewed for me, some sound much too strong and others too weak.
City management, with upgrades and construction, remains simple for the moment, but well done.
The quests are still few and far between, but I really enjoyed the assassin's quest, even if it's not finished yet.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to future updates, and good luck to the developer.

in terms of mechanics it resembles another game i enjoy greatly,
but that one is mostly cloak and dagger spy stuff, this one seems a more political games with battles,
but i do enjoy the entire manage a kingdom make it evolve, hire warriors and counselors so it gets 4 stars

on the hopes that the game develops properly and we get to enjoy some much need intrigue good plot points and ofc power plays!

Game is in a very early stage of development (0.1), but what I saw impressed me enough to write a review. I fell this game has some potential.

The story follows young lord, who fights and conqueres lands and beauties on his way. He is charming, brave, flamboyant, little fruity, quick-tempered, but otherwise quite smart and reasonable, reminds me Alexander the Great, I like him. Power fantasy part is probably the best and the hottest part, sadly all the scenes and interactions with other characters now are too short. Usually this kind of games overwhelm you with ton of dialog about nothing and lore dumps, but this is step too much in the other direction. I would love to see longer and more sensual sex scenes, deeper conversations and character development, get to live in a MC skin a little bit and not just being thrown into a short vignette.

I usually prefer to follow pure VNs, without sandbox or other game elements, because porn devs usually don't have what it takes to make both good game and good porn, but the game mechanics here actually work quite well. We have simple tactical turn-based combat with diffrent classes that balanced on the "Rock Paper Scissors" principle and xp-leveling system. You have to think how to position units on the map, who and how to attack, quite simple and fun (although I don't know why it square, and not hexagon-based). There is also strategic layer, gathering resources, upgrading units and buildings to open new scenes and progress the story. With some polish and quality of life improvements it can create quite an engaging gameplay loop. Visually game uses frankly outdated HS models, but I like the designs themselves, so won't complain there.

So in conclusion I will say I have high hopes for this project and will continue to follow it.
