VN - Ren'Py - Grandma's House [Part 5 v0.78] [Moonbox]

This is a review of v0.36.

Grandma’s House is one of those games which is extremely difficult to rate. At times, it is sexy joyride. At other times, it makes you cringe so hard you feel physically sick.

The game is a slice-of-life, “wholesome” harem AVN with no conflict and no plot. It is very slow, and while there are a lot of sex scenes, they are interspersed with a lot of pointless, repetitive dialogue. The worst offenders are the countless boring and cringe-inducing scenes the mc spends with his Grandma and his “mother” (not blood-related). Their relationships have progressed at a glacial pace, but what really induces the cringe is how they have become blatantly sexual without anyone admitting that they want to have sex. The intention is clearly to be sweet and wholesome, but the effect is so bad it hurts. I almost never skip through dialogue in AVNs, but I ended up having to skim read these scenes to preserve my sanity. The same problem exists with one of the aunts, but at least she is pretty clear she doesn’t want to have a romantic relationship with the mc currently. This was a problem with the other aunt and the cousin, but thankfully they both got past it quickly enough. Even then, there is an inordinate amount of hugging, kissing and generally being "sweet" in a way that gives you diabetes rather than warm your heart.

That's the heart of my experience, but here are some other miscellaneous points:

• The game is already very long
• The visuals are low quality by modern standards but fine enough to play
• There are no animations
• The sex scenes are well structured and very hot; you can see their quality improve from the start of the game
• There is no music, not that that's a problem
• There are GILFs, MILFs, and girls around the mc’s age (20), and while I avoided some of the GILFs, I felt obligated to follow the grandma and “mother” routes because they are central to the narrative
• One plot thread

• The mc has a big dick even by AVN standards, but the odd choice to keep it pretty much permanently hard and to have him and the central LIs essentially be nudists (even around those he isn't currently dating) means the sexiness of getting naked is lost
• Some characters who narratively ought to receive more screen time are pushed to the wayside because they are optional

• Having lobster for breakfast should be illegal
• The main cast are all alcoholics, drinking very heavily many days in a week, but no one seems to realise this and it is not presented as a problem
• There are some girls who are avoidable but look extremely inappropriate, which brings my rating down from 3 to 2

Despite all this, I know I will eventually play future updates, because the sheer amount of time I've spent with characters has invested me enough to want to see how things proceed. Grandma's House has dug its dirty nails into me and won't let go.

After this review I came back a few times, but it only got worse, so I've quit. The last version I played was probably v0.70.

Legit, one of the best h-games on this site (and maybe anywhere else)! The story is actually not bad at all and the h-scenes are well spread out. Even if sometimes there aren't full-on penetration scenes, the teasing, and the innuendo make it so much better. Can't believe I went for a g-ma based game, but actually love it! Keep up the good work!

Grandma's House has it all. Big butts, little butts, tall butts, short butts, GILF butts, MILF butts, Auntie, niece and cousin butt's. It's all about family values... well... sorta. The graphics, writing, posing and story telling are all top notch. It's funny and smart and entertaining and... adult. Childish minds should stay away for sure.

stories lack depth. becomes monotonous after some scenes—nothing to do other than just fap. The graphics were good. If the sole purpose was only fapping then it could have been better with animation and sound effects.

I don't write reviews often but I really enjoy this one.

First and foremost, what I like is that you don't have to wait 6 months between updates and there are plenty of LI's to mess around with in the mean time and plenty of content.

That said, I like the different ethnicity and various age difference of the characters, with lots of kinky stuff and humor. I just hope the dev is able to keep going with HIS original idea for the VN and doesn't get discouraged by some of the negative comments. It's impossible to please everyone so please keep doing what you're doing buddy and stick to your guns. There's a whole bunch of us that love your game and looking forward to some Nana action ROF. Just messin with you bro and I know it's coming but I just had to slip that one in knowing I couldn't get facepalmed

The right mix of wholesome and kinky with enough kinks for everyone and all fully optional as well. This dev clearly understands the average player's top complaints and decided to make a game and fix all of it. Recommended if you're looking for something light-hearted and fun without a deep story. Plus, the MC is one of the best out there.

I've really enjoyed the story as well as the naughty scenes. This is the ONLY VN that has made me audibly go "Aww" with the cutie maid. I have had more than a few laughs at the jokes and the MC is sappy but relatable. There are so many girls there can be a long gap between seeing one again but am enjoying every one of them. One of the few VN I wish had a professional game sized staff to make more content faster.

This one is a really hard review for me. It ticks a lot of good boxes for the type of AVN I want to play, and yet also left me wanting a lot that it didn’t provide (which other AVNs do). It also has a rather large frustration factor with how slow progress can be on some of the characters (notably your grandmother).

The great:
– Awesome models for the most part, almost everyone was attractive, and the ones I didn’t care for were obviously for a different fetish type.
– Similarly awesome renders and environments, outfits, lighting and shadowing, etc.
– Good posing, facial expressions and so on always seemed to match the spoken text and moment.

The good:
– Pretty good sense of humor throughout, though it did get overused and cheesy at times. Part of that is due to the thinness of the story (more on that later).
– Awesome cuteness factor for several of the characters, but likewise was heavily overused at times (sometimes forgetting about other characters almost entirely for days at a time).
– Great diversity of kinks and a selection of women to experience them with.

The bad:
– This is where the games leaves you wanting – there basically is NO story whatsoever. There is character introduction/progression, but zero story. It’s essentially a female interaction sandbox that moves forward in 24 hour intervals, making you think there might be a story.
– Essentially no animations, voiceovers, or situational music. Sex scenes are a series of stills with text.

The ugly:
– Forced interaction with some family members that you might not want to be around. Some of the ones you might want to progress with end up as teasers with light-to-no-action at all (I believe the developer did this on purpose).
– After ~25+ hours (all the way through the end of 0.32), there’s still no sex with your grandmother (Nana), or one of your sisters. The other two are in full swing, which leaves a rather unbalanced and unfulfilling set of circumstances.
– Very little choice on what you want to do next, who you want to go see, who you want to progress with. It’s a highly linear AVN which is very close to a Kinetic graphic novel. You can turn down *some* women, or kinks/scenarios, but you can’t decide what you are going to do from one day to the next.
– The game alludes to “training” some of the ladies in certain aspects/skills/etc, but that never really seems to take off and display itself later on. Pretty sure it’s just for kink selection, which is disappointing – it could be so much more by altering scenes to be far more deep.
– Zero replayability, unless you want to see the same game all over again, or skipped some women and would like to see them the second time around.

Having said all that, it still probably rates a 2.5-3.0 out of 5 from me just due to the humor, cuteness factor, and well done models and renders. But don’t expect an engaging story here, as there isn’t one. It’s just humor, women, kinks, and sex. Lots of room for Moonbox (the developer) to improve. Unfortunately there's little to no response on the game's critical reviews from Moonbox, and only teasers as to where the game is going.

Grandma and the friend's mother are unavoidable romances in this game, no matter what choices you make, and portrays obese people in a horrendously offensive way while trying (and failing) to pass it off as a joke. The game also features LIs which are effectively pedo-bait, because while the dev tries to claim they're 18+, they're very obviously modelled and coded to be children. Some of the romances are decent (the cousin, aunts, bartender, etc), but not enough to justify playing a game that forces you to romance old women and offers numerous preteens as options.

What can I say? Oh it's simple, This game is simply the best!!! It has harem, no ntr, incest, milf, teens, gilfs, asain, arab, ebony and even nun
Lesbian content and other content will be 100% avoidable

The renders are very sharp.
The story is funny and has touching moments.

Generally, I tend to avoid harem stories because they often reduce female characters to mere objects, lacking depth and substance. It all started well, but the later chapters reduce everything to sex scenes, making me not even care about reading any of the "dialogue".

All the girls have become shallow stereotypes.

Among the characters, my personal favorite was Asami. She used to be such a kind and sweet woman that I would have gladly played a solo route dedicated to her. However, she has become just a paper-thin character with the weirdest fetishes, and I don't even like her content anymore. I must commend the developer for the quick and consistent updates, but other than that, the game is not very appealing.

I stayed away from this for a long time because I thought I wouldn't be into the GILF thing. I was wrong. The game doesn't take itself very seriously. I couldn't tell you what the overall plot is, besides just sweet lovey cute things that lead to kinky sex, often but not always with family members (I'm a fan). Also I didn't know I had a kink for an MC to sex up a girl and her mom at the same time. But there are several situations like that and I find myself going back to them when I need to uh finish business iykwim.

There are no animations. Imo it's fine. I assume that helps out with dev time, because I'm ultra impressed with how often we get (big) updates.

In conclusion, if you like incest content, play it. It'll scratch that itch at the very least.

This game had a possible great potential when started, as many others. But with the time passing, the obvious path this game has taken makes It quite mediocre.
Is one of those games based on adding a plethora of women who want to fuck the MC, but doesn't give a fuck about having a CORE PLOT. To say It more clearly, the story GOES NOWHERE...

PROS:
- Models are hot.
- There's some fun comedy here and there.
- Has a lot of characters. *


CONS:
- The story has no direction. Basically the plot is non-existent.
- The unending repetition of concepts ends becoming annoying. (How cute is that character. Do you think she's cute? You're the most cute thing in this world!!) and on and on and on...
- Has no animations.
- Has a lot of characters with no depth. *
- There's no branching at all (because there's NO PLOT). So your choices are basically I wanna see this scene or not.


When It started, this game could be a 4 stars easily, now a 2,5 would be generous.

Graphics - Nothing to complain about.

Models - Some lovely, some disgusting, most are unfortunately distorted in an outright caricatured way.

Girls - Not very interesting, at least the ones I pursued, the rest I scrolled through because I was forced to watch disgusting romance scenes with them even though I rejected them.

Protagonist - A hard case of a retarded exbitionist with a caricaturedly large penis, I didn't like him.

Story - It's hard for me to say anything about it except that the protagonist goes from place to place and all the women throw themselves at him, I skipped most of it which I explained above, it seems that the emphasis is on the grandmother, however when I saw her on the screen I was tired and said to myself "here we go again that whore" and pressed skip after which I saw a friend's mother "here we go again" skip.

I did not make it to the end and will not return to this game.

THE SPOILER PART LARGELY EXPLAINS WHY I RATE THIS GAME SO LOW.


TL;DR
If you are not interested in watching scenes with old, fat women then there is not much left for you in this game, even on the full skip option you have nothing to look for here. The worst written option for rejecting women in games of this type.

Meh, it's not bad. I'm not going to dock points for it having way too much focus on GILFs since that'd be like going to an NTR game and reviewing it badly for having NTR. I haven't finished yet but at this point I'm just pretty much clicking through the dialogue to get to scenes with characters I want to see.
Word of advice for people: The grandma is pretty integral to the story. If you wanted to play just for the side characters, then it'd be best to just skip this.

Bad points
- Too many typos, bad grammar, and poor spelling (gradually improves somewhat)
- No animations. Makes scenes really boring.
- No music. It's usually not a big deal if the writing is good but it isn't. Which is why something playing in the background helps drown out the dullness.
- Lazy writing. Every other guy is either
A. An abusive scumbag/ a bully
B. A cheater
C. A drunk who deserted his family and ran off with someone younger
D. All of the above
I think there's maybe 1 or 2 that are just dead but even they don't come out unscathed by the writer's attempt to make the MC a knight-in-shining armor by making every other guy look bad in comparison. Other than Omar who's actually a pretty fun character but he's a chubby-chaser so we don't have to worry about him.

+ Some of the dialogue seems pretty natural so it's not all bad. Plus I understand that there was no other easy way to explain the MC having all these women fall into his lap but at some point it just gets completely unnecessary.
+ Renders look decent
+ The MC is written to be a relatively competent human being
+ A good variety of characters even though most of the time is spent with the grandma and surrogate mom.

Edit 2: Finished "Part 1". Overall, it's not bad.

• The GILF stuff still really grosses me out and is a real boner killer but there's a pretty huge cast and you get a good amount of time without "Nana" as well. Especially Fiona and her family. Shit, you could make a game just based off of that. Hot. As. Fuck.
• Typos and grammar/spelling errors seemed to reduce as I kept playing as well.
• Looks like the mod has a music add-in so that saved the day for the music.
• Dialogue gets ... a little dumb and one caveat about having such a huge cast is that some characters quickly become redundant.

I'm still not going to take away points for the grandma thing because it's the main thing about the game (it's even in the name) even though ... I wish it wasn't.

Edit 3:

• I think there are just too many characters. The ones I'm interested in only have 1 or 2 scenes in the entirety of part so far. Which kind of makes it pointless to play.
• It'd be fine to sit through meandering dialogue as long as I can get to a scene with a character I'm pursuing but that's not the case. I think this is a game that I'll just update once in a while to just check the gallery.
• If that's the case, I really don't think I can ultimately give this game anything more than a 3. Too many boner killers and meandering story.

Reviewed Version [0.31 - Played up to 0.12, skimmed to around 0.14]

A short preface. I recently decided to systematically review the AVNs and conventional VN's i play and have played, although i might need to replay some of the past ones. Grandma's House was however one of the many new titles added to my library. To understand my 3 star rating you should know the following.

1. I played a very similar AVN just before Grandma's House and i ended up dropping that one for almost the exact same reasons, which left me a bit sour.
2. I consider myself to have above average standards for certain aspects in AVN's. Mostly related to writing and dialogue. My primary brain remains switched on when i read AVN's, but perhaps in a energy saving mode.
3. Like most people i have a set of tags/fetishes that i really like or care about. Just as well, i have a set of dealbreakers that very quickly will decrease my rating of a title or make me quit outright.
4. I have trouble containing my ramblings once i get going and some of my points below will seem oddly specific and nitpicky. I tend to use these as examples for more persistent issues.
5. Like most recent AVN additions to my library i picked Grandma's House based on certain tags: Harem (amazing if handled well), Pregnancy (both the breeding aspect and the pregnant look), INC(not needed but adds spice) and lactation.
6. I am kinda paraphrasing a review i already wrote in a personal word file. I have however merged some points together and maybe added a new point or 2. I also found some inspiration in other reveiws here.

Pros:
- While obviously a comedic relief character, Omar was legitimately funny and a nice break from the forced and often bad humor.

- A cast that is highly diverse and visually pleasing. The models look great compared to the average seen in Daz3D titles, with only a few wonky looking details on some of them. It's as if someone had occasionally used a morphing tool. Elizabeths (blonde aunt) tank top come to mind.

- H-scenes, while I never got far into the game, they were decent in most aspects. Plenty of renders to gradually illustrate the progression movements during an erotic encounter. Serviceable dialogue of an appropriate length. The occasional use of onomatopoeia works well. They looked fine without animation.

- Renders outside of H-scenes were used to great effect as well and i don't think that Grandma's House suffer from the lack of animation.

- A good variety of fetishes and the ones with the most focus are the ones i like the most. The primary reason i selected this title to begin with.

- No engrish here. Good consistent grammar and spelling

Mehs (or what i in some cases would label Hit/Miss for persons with different tastes from mine):
- Characters that dress lightly a with little reason. Mostly MC being shirtless at the slightest amount of physical work or in the morning long after leaving bed.

- Molly, the dog, feels like a wierd plot device. He/she (yes, i said that) spends 95% of her time cowardly hiding in the laundry room. Probably to avoid interferance with the "action"? IDK.

- A sin common in these non-fantasy and non-scifi setting are how these really expensive looking houses and apartments are so god damn widespread.

Cons:
- This is going to be a long section, but the dialogue, oh the dialogue. The dialogue is the primary reason i decided to drop Grandma's House.
Lets start with the content. In my mind it felt like 50-55% of what came out of MC's mouth were compliments. Then about 30% jokes and attempts at humor, that were not funny, 5 % that were somewhat funny and the last 10-15% were normal speech that actually served to move us forward in the plot, bring up information and so on.
Things weren't much different on the girls end with them putting themselves down, then accepting MC's compliments and praising MC saying "Oh well, i guess you are right MC, if only there were other guys like you out there, but no, there's ooooooooooonly you".
And it is all so damn hyperbolic and diabetically saccharine that it very quickly looses any true emotional impact because of how constant it is.
No one talks like that and it makes the vast amount of the central characters seem like cardboard cutouts or robots, with a singular purpose.
Fiona and Riona probably ended up as my favorite girls on account of having the most natural and REAL sounding dialogue. They, along with Omar, felt somewhat like real people.

- This high amount of compliments also results in incredibly stale and predictable conversations. Repetative as well. Some morning conversations feels indistinguishable from one another with the only diffrence being the result of different characters being present.
Another reviewer (starfarts) perfectly summarized how these conversations appear in his Feb. 27 2023. review.

- I mentioned the jokes that weren't funny. Try to pay attention and you will notice how often *Laughs* or *giggle* us used in the text. This is only a minor complaint, but it highlights the often forced nature of the humor. An example of forced humor would be whenever MC's lousy cooking skills are brought up.

- Then we have one of my personal dealbreakers, which is the relegation of all males into roles of villain, douchebag, comedic relief and goons( of the villains). I don't remember any goons or actual villain like characters in Grandma's House. But we have plenty of douchebags who are written to be super easy to dislike and effectively serves as delivery men, kicking one girl after another directly into the harem with MC not having to lift a finger in many cases. Incredibly convenient. What makes this a dealbreaker to me is not the way it is used as a cheap narrative trick, but instead the toxic portrayal of the male gender. It baffles me how the AVN medium, dominated by straight male consumers, isn't a cultural bastion, where we can escape from that BS.

- The concepts of male power fantasy and wish fulfillment is taken too far and there's a lot to this issue.
First we have the lower arm sized dong, which also doesn't look that great. It practically gets worthshipped and all that jazz. Dev did a decent job with positioning the models in the H scenes, but sometimes, due to awkward camera angles, the dong looks so big, and the girls so small in comparison, that they would need snake-jaws to fit the damn thing during oral.
There's also the ridiculing of other unseen male characters for being cucks. Really, F****** REALLY?! Jesus, what a powertrip this is. Is there anything this title won't do in order to make MC seem like the most ALPHA ever?
He is like beyond ALPHA, like litterally defining of what alpha means, like..................The Proto-ALPHA.

- Despite being written as a mushy character who can do no wrong, MC is incredibly casual about how he would use severe violence on the poor douchebags who are doomed from the start because of MC's level 9000 plot armor (hmmmmm, is it even plot armor is there is no plot and only expansion of the harem?). Leave the poor lads alone, they can't help that they were created like that.

- Nana's wealth is used to conveniently handwave away the few small, but slightly interesting issues that we face. This is a minor issue. Dev likely found some better assets(houses/apartments) and needed to implement them somehow. But still, buying up an entire apartment complex because your friend is under slight risk of eviction? A little much.

- I only just got to the parts where the label starts getting used, but the whole "Daddy" thing creeped my out real damn fast.
One of the aunt characters uses the term as well, but that just come across as wierd, especially considering that her daughter, the cousin, uses it as well, and even in the same scene. But no, even without the "Daddy" label, the interactions you have with pretty much all the younger girls (cousin and i think 5 others) are real damn creepy. I am aware that this very type of interaction is what brings some people here to full mast in seconds, but it just isn't for me. Fortunately, only the cousin and a young asian girl whose lewd content i didn't reach, are amongst the 7 unavoidable harem members, so i won't let this con drag the rating down substantially.

- The setting started out seeming like it was quite grounded with a slightly silly streak, but kept getting evermore silly and porn like.

Comments:
Well, i decided to give Grandma's House a 3 and not a 2 (in my existing review it was around 4.8-5.0 out of 10) because of the effort put into this one. I also think that some of my cons would barely noticed by the average AVN enjoyer. I would also say that this is mostly a case of Grandma's House just not being the right AVN for me, rather than Grandma's House being bad. Some of its weak aspects are litterally the norm in the AVN sphere.

First of all, with a single glance at the heading-image for this game, we all immediately know what to expect. A mindless harem game about a ridiculously well hung MC, without any male competition, so every female is going to throw themselves at him after he took the time to greet them.

This game surprised me, though.

In between the mindless sex-scenes, this game takes the time to make the characters show genuine affection towards each other and properly develop their relationships. The little touches, the small gestures, the loving dialogues, all make this just... fucking wholesome. That scene where the MC comes home with his new junker car, and the Granny asks him if he's gonna make the car "go Vroom-Vroom", made me genuinely laugh. Simply because I couldn't get past how cute this woman was while talking to the grown-ass man she had taken care of since he was a little boy. It sounds ridiculous, but there are countless scenes like that in this game, making it very clear how these characters genuinely care for the MC, instead of being the usual mindless Bimbos who just have the hots for his 12-inch schlong.

In addition to that, the dev implemented one of the most user-friendly choice-systems I have ever seen in a RenPy Game. When you are prompted with the decision of whether or not you want to get with any given character, it rarely happens immediately. The dev usually takes some time to set the scene and develop the relationship to a point where it makes at least some sense for them to fuck. By then, if you realize that the character is not your cup of tea, you DON’T have to reload a save to then hold the skip-key for an hour to get through everything you’ve seen since then. Instead, you get asked if you STILL want to do this. Some times, when you have to choose between being sub or dom in an encounter, you even get to try and change that decision in a later encounter! This is really well thought out, especially since this game offers models for basically every taste. Big, thin, tall, small, every conceivable ethnicity, you name it!

The only reason I’m giving four instead of five stars, is the dirty talk and the repetitiveness. Every sexual encounter is basically the same. The dev did not get really creative with them. Same with the dirty talk. For some reason, while I get to make choices and inputs on a lot, I do not get proper choices for how some of the key characters call my MC. When you get with the first mother-daughter-duo, you even talk about getting with the mother and becoming the daughter’s new daddy. So, it makes sense for the daughter to call you “Daddy”. But when the mother, who’s roughly twenty years older than you, calls you that as well… that’s just weird. That’s a massive missed opportunity, in my book. I guess the Dev just likes women to call him that, so he hardcoded it into basically every encounter.

TL/DR: The gold standard for a mindless, aimless, porny daz power trip wholesome harem game. Do not expect interesting story beats. You might as well queue up the Pornhub jingle every time this jank-af looking chad protagonist walks into a new situation. Scene content is strong, but the narratives understandably lack any sort of meaningful sexual tension or build up. It is fast food and the gals are all eating the same foot-long.

+ Scene content is well written and covers a lot of different heterosexual harem fantasies.
+ Scene content is robust and diverse
+ Scene content actually involves intimacy. A lot of VN fail to achieve this
+ Wholesome
+ Well rendered
+ There is a doggo and you can pet it
+ Celebrates the beauty of a lot of different body types.
+ Has good awareness regarding consent.

- DO NOT EXPECT MEANINGFUL PLOT
- There is very little realism or drama in the relationship dynamics
- Wholesomeness is sometimes so hyperbolic it is annoying
