I've just finished playing Angelica's Temptation: From the Beginning and that is objectively a really good game, it has great writing, several paths with tons of hot scenes on each, but its review average is not too strong (not bad either, just does not make it a standout) which I didn't understand, games with much worse writing and scenes have much better review average.

By checking those reviews I mostly found that the critical reviews criticizing mainly the theme and approach of that game. I don't want to go into details and start an argument regarding those, but I would like to ask you if you know any games that are objectively really good with many great content, but their average review score does not reflect that due to an issue which isn't really tied their quality but rather their theme/approach/author/update frequency/etc...

Thank you!

What you call a good game is not everybody's same opinion, not everyone likes sharing their woman or ntr. I like what's mine to be mine only, but, to each their own, preferences aren't the same for everyone.

I agree that everyone has their own kinks and fetishes but I disagree that such thing should be reflected in the review average of a game.

Games are well tagged on this site to help people look for their own fetishes, review scores should reflect the quality of the game for people who are fine with the tags of that game.

Imagine a really unpopular fetish which is disgusting for many people, there are some for sure, not naming any, I am against any kind of kink shaming. Following this logic games containing those fetishes should be review bombed to oblivion by people hating that fetish. Instead, those games are played only by people with that fetish and not reviewed according to whether they contain such content they are tagged for or not. So the community itself usually doing it that way, I've described.

Again, I don't really want to talk about that game or NTR, I am totally okay with the situation that this game got more negative reviews mainly due to a fetish it satisfies, such things happen, don't want to defend it, I was just wondering whether there are other games in similar situation on the site. If you try to put games on an objective scale according to their quality and quantity of sexual content and writing and sort all games on the site, that game would clearly be on a much better place than it is now, even the negative reviews mostly agree on that. I wonder if there are any other games I am missing due to such situation by sorting games according to their weighted rating.

Another game came into my mind is A Wife and Mother which started with stellar review average and went to average due to slow updates with few sexual content. I don't know how much sexual content it has now, maybe if it still don't have much then the average score is a bit more justified in that case.

But I also 100% agree that the subject I came up with is a controversial one, that's why I started with clarifying that I don't want to talk about my example much, just asked people to point out games they think are in a similar situation and I'll check whether I agree or not, this is a recommendation thread after all. :)

I tried that one over a year ago on another site. I thought the female MC's prologue was quite nice and spicy though in my recall the writing was far from fantastic - I can look past that however, but the husband's prologue was horse shit full of clichés and plotholes. Before the game really started the husband, his mother and his 'friend' were utterly ruined. The only reason I'd retry that is if you could incapacitate the husband and the friend and then subject them to lesbian netori.

So no, it's not objectively a really good game, any opinions about that game are still subjective.

Very interesting thread! I believe I understand the kind of game you mean. There are mediocre games with mediocre scores, and missing them is saving you time. But then there are polarizing games with a truckload of hate in the thread, and you can be misled and miss some real gems. Especially when the reason for the hate has little to do with the game itself (slow updates, unsympathetic developer) or with things that may matter a lot for some players that may matter little for you (polarizing kinks, grinding mechanics, etc.). As you said, A Wife and A Mother would be a perfect example.

Big Brother would be another one. Objectively was for many months the most popular game in the forum, its influence is clear in many other games, objectively an important game. But one with very frustrating moments. You can get locked out of scenes and routes without any warning after many hours of playtime. Also there is a villain figure that can make you feel the NTR in your bones. You can take revenge at him if NTR is not your thing, but it was a extremely hated character anyway. On the other hand, getting some scenes made for some of the most gratifying moments I ever experienced playing a porn game. So yeah, this would be a 100% recommendation.

If you read the thread of Star Channel 34, you'll end up convinced that Akabur missed the ball wildly with this one (which is of course a perfectly legitimate opinion). But IMO is not only a great game but his best. Most of the hate come from slow and small updates, and from the fact that for most of the game you have very few penetration scenes (yeah, the same as with A Wife and a Mother).

Cure my Addiction: grinding and the fact that if you play blind you can spent hours running in circles, got its score down. But for the same reasons, getting scenes can be extremely rewarding. Definitely not the mediocre game its score suggest, but more like a love it or hate it scenario.

I'm sure there are many other examples! These came up from the top of my head.
