[v0.3]
The game has a bit of an identity crisis, but what we do get is pretty decent.
First of all, this game cannot decide if it will be an incest story or not. The default relationships are all set as "friend" in a plot that makes literally no sense if everyone were just friends. It will also lead to absurd dialogues like "I can't believe my own
firend is doing this to me." So let's just assume that the default relationships are nothing more than a cover that wasn't meant to be taken seriously.
Now the issue is that the story also doesn't fully commit to the incest plot even when you enter in all the correct relationships. MC and his sisters constantly refer to the mom by her first name. I know exactly why this is happening from a coding perspective. It's because you wouldn't address someone as "friend" when talking to them directly. So the script doesn't use the inputted variable for the relationship and just hard codes the word "Evelyn" when anyone addresses her directly. It's not a hard fix, this one.
However, that is the least of the problems when it comes to this topic. The script itself cannot decide if these people are a family or not. The most egregious example would be the early interactions with the mother. Nobody can look at these early flirty/sexual interactions and say that this is how a mother and son would typically act (without some explanation or circumstances that broke down boundaries already). It makes quite a lot of sense if they were friends though (although nothing could make sense of the fact that these 4 friends are living under the same roof and acting like a family unit lol). However, you also see frequent mentions of "Oh no... my own _____ is bla bla bla." "We shouldn't be doing this, it's not right..." Etc etc. So which is it? This weird flip flopping happens even during a single interaction.
The other aspect of the identity problem is the plot premise. I'm pretty sure I am not the only one who saw this banner, read the overview, saw the tags and title, and came to the conclusion that this was probably some kind of modern day Tudors plot about royals and monarchs. Well, there is not one single thing about this. I was so confused that I went back to the intro exposition like 5 times to try and understand just what the MC is.
It says that the old monarchy survived into the present day and the MC is part of that lineage. But during the present day, the leader of the Nexus is called the CEO. Ok, so did the monarchy survive or not? If so, does the CEO have greater governing powers within his domain that extends past the company? If Emerald Bay is actually a democracy in the 21st century and the CEO is just a CEO of a megacorp, the game did a horrible job of showing it.
Excerpts from the intro exposition.
As time passed and democracy started overtaking the world [...] the King dictated that his dynasty will uphold the traditions of the monarchy inside The Nexus.
After his death, his firstborn son would take his place as the new leader of The Nexus, learning to become a worthy successor and preserve the Sanford Legacy.
Nobody was against the king's decision, as the Sanford dynasty were known to be great rulers ever since the middle ages.
And so the Sanford legacy, as well as The Nexus [...] would prosper throughout the years.
In the 21st century [...] William Sanford, former CEO, recently passed away. Now it's up to his son, Logan Sanford, to become the new leader of Nexus Industries - as per tradition...
Tell me you are not confused after reading that. And after playing through the current release, I am still unsure if the monarchy is a thing in this game or if it's just an inconsequential backstory.
I can certainly say that there is not a shred of political intrigue, nobles, royalty, or hell, even high born shenanigans about CEOs or rich and powerful families. It's honestly just a bog standard incest harem plot when you get down to it. One that has trouble really owning up the incest...
That said, I've seen much worse games. At minimum, you will find great grammar usage and generally no issues with the English. The models are damn hot in my opinion, and there are a decent amount of variation in body types. There is a shitload of teasing, which can be good or bad, but I think it was done pretty effectively here. And there is still hope for the plot, depending on how this cliffhanger at the end of chapter 2 plays out. Maybe we will finally get somewhere more interesting than the cliche lounging around the house, giving massages and interacting with family members wearing underwear.
