RPGM Help Unpacking .exe Games

I am trying to convert the games from this thread to run natively on Mac.
I have been able to convert #3 (before the darkness) and #5 (crimson chains) from the list successfully by using these files from the win-full.zip files: Screen Shot 2024-11-11 at 7.47.59 PM.png

However, #1 (my assassin bodyguard) , #2 (lone stars) , and #4 (teacher's pet) are .exe portable executable files. They are an nw,js application and the dev uses RPGMaker MZ. The .exes aren't protected by things like Enigma for example.

Does anyone know how I can unpack these .exe files to have access to the folders shown in the image I need?

I don't have any links, but i've certainly seen threads and even whole sites about unpacking such games. Keep looking would be my suggestion. try wandering the japanese internets (via translation) as that is the source of rpgm engine.

don't know this will help depending on the rpgm is used

you don't need to unpack the exe file as long as the data folder is there just need to use PNG_Decrypter-0.5.1-win

in rpgm maker just create new project then save then copy the data folder and img folder you might have copy other folder like the audio/movie folders as well but audio might encrypted

View attachment PNG_Decrypter-0.5.1-win.rar

These games are just 1 closed .exe file. When you play the game and a save file is automatically made it shows up as a newly made external save folder.
Thank y'all for your help!

some quick searching found these. What have you tried?

EnigmaVBUnpacker: Decompiles game data encrypted with Enigma Virtual Box v4.10..7.40 (game files are in a single .exe)

I have tried Enigma, and it said it couldn't unpack because the .exe isn't protected by Enigma.
I haven't tried dragon unpacker, I can give that one a try

seems like no simple answer. you are going to have to do the learning just like school :ROFLMAO:

What research have you done to identify what exe packer is used? that would be first step, i guess...

note: i'm not an expert at all, just helping by asking questions...

I'm not too sure what packer has been used for this, I see "application/vnd.microsoft.portable-executable" for the type so it must be related to that "vnd"... I hope

That's a MIME type, which is used in various tech fields. I know it from web-dev, where it's used to identify the data type of a HTTP response, but I believe MIME is used in different places too, such as in *nix operating systems to associate "magic number" file headers with different apps.

reading up a bit, i think that might be a red herring - a "microsoft portable executable" just means the single exe could be run on different windows environments (32bit, 64bit) - but that's not related to the "single file packed code and data" format that you are actually interested in extracting.

reading up a bit more.... it seems that it's common for these "app packers" to actually extract the game code to a temp folder somewhere and run the game from there. You could try grabbing "Sandboxie-plus" and the using that to run the EXE. It will show you exactly what files are written to the file system, so you might be able to find whichever temp location the stuff is written to.
