Congratulations on your game being approved for Steam! I’ve always wanted to support you through Patreon, but unfortunately my country doesn't allow payments through bank cards or PayPal on that platform. Now I'm thrilled that I can finally show my support by purchasing your work through Steam!

First of all, Congratulations on getting approved for Steam.

For reducing scenes, I think it's fine, especially for side quest. Getting 4 dedicated scenes in an update was a lot and reducing it by 1/4 probably feels not as bad. I think if there is going to be negative response, it's going to MQ, since 1 character is going lost half their scenes, which is more felt. So will Rose and Cy always be done same time or will you be planning to give sometimes just give 1 character the entire update?

Did you just make a new account because you were afraid to ask for a link on your main or what ? Like...this account was made TODAY and this is your very first comment on it, there's no way a single person who stumbles upon this website naturally does this on their first day. Not to mention the thread was Updated like a month ago meaning that you HAD to look for it to wind up here. xddd

waiting for spoilers XD, my dear wealthy friends XD
Here, instead of giving you a spoiler i'll break your heart.

Steam release + about future updates (Kind of a PoL, but not really)

ello everyone! So, it probably won't come as a surprise if I say I haven't really worked on the new update quite yet. Update 19 will be about Lily's next side quest, and I have a very rough idea on how it'll shape up. That's all I can say for now.

Still, there's a bunch of other things I need to talk about, good and bad:

First of all, HC3 got approved for release on Steam. The store page is 99% ready, but I still need to do a few menial things, like change the screenshots' resolution and stuff like that, so it'll be a few days before it's out.

It'll be priced at 13.99$, with some changes based on where you're buying it from, and a 15% discount at launch. The steam version won't contain all the extra scenes, but about 60 to 65%~ of them, because I'd rather the 20$ version remains exclusive to Patreon. What extra scene makes it into the steam version will be chosen mostly at random, but I'll try to alternate the characters as much as I can.

I'll make a new post once the store page goes online so you can wishlist it. Wishlists go a long way to make the game more visible to more people on steam.

Second, I need to have a not-so-pleasant talk about the upcoming updates and the financial side of things. Since I always want to improve the quality of the game, I've been putting more and more efforts and money into it as time went on, which unfortunately translates into longer waiting time between releases. As a result, this Patreon's page monthly income has been steadily decreasing, while the cost of every update has risen exponentially. Still, all things considered, I'm still getting a lot compared to many other creators, but I so happen to live in a country where the median income is 7k$ per month with matching living costs, so money can be tight at times.

Don't worry, it's not all doom and gloom. I live very frugally, and I'm nowhere near bankruptcy nor am I facing any money-related problems, not at all, so I can still keep going fine. Besides, the Steam release will also help. But I'll probably have to try and shorten the length of the upcoming HC3 updates so I can hopefully release them faster and so they don't cost as much to produce. I'm talking 3 scenes (+1 extra) and 2-3 freeroams at most (with a few exceptions) per update. Some people might see this as a win. For the rest, I apologize.

PS: I have a tendency to sound overly depressed when I'm trying to have a serious talk. I just want to point out that I'm perfectly fine and content, and that I simply wanted to be honest with everyone~

Have a great week folks!

I wont spend money on inferior product, i would rather pay higher price and get full version, why Steam users must be treated as second class here? Make extra scenes as optional paid DLC or something... And before somebody says things like "just subscribe for 20$ for a month on Patreon" - I cant use it for varios reasons :(

I really hope N_taii changes his mind on this one...

Edit. And to address "But Patreon subs deserve something extra for supporting!" argument - Yeah, and they got to play the game early and to support the dev in making things they like, while ppl on Steam are going to be offered to pay for product that has missing content. We all know sooner or later there would be a leaked 20$ version with all extra scenes anyway, as one wise man said "Piracy is almost always a service problem".

So I just want to adress this and be completely honest about it. I don't think anybody would buy a RPGM game with graphics like mine for 20$ on Steam, which is why I lowered the price and took some scenes away too, otherwise there would be no incentive to subscribe to the 20$ tier on Patreon since there would be another version with the same content for cheaper somewhere else.

"If you think it's too expensive for Steam, then why set that price on Patreon?"
Well, Patreon is a crowdfunding platform. I understand that the way the tier system is set up, it feels like a marketplace of "sub to X tier to buy Y reward", but that's not how I see it. The way I see it, a Patron subscribes to a certain tier because they enjoy my work and want to support me with x amount, support which in turn helps me pay my bills, feed myself, and reinvest a lot into the game in the form of time and money. As a thanks for their support (and an incentive as well, let's be real), I provide a reward that might not be worth the price of the tier, but shows my gratitude for their support (extra scene, early access, etc...). For example, the General tier, for +10$ per month than the 20$ tier, gives the opportunity to have one's name in game. Is it worth paying an extra 10$ for one or many months just for that? Probably not, but it's a little something extra as a token of my gratitude.

Some people might not see Patreon the same way as I do and consider that tiers should provide rewards that are worth exactly the price on the tier, but I hope they can understand where I come from with this : )

Anyway, all of this to say that I can't set up the same price equivalent on Steam as I do on Patreon because the audience is different, and therefore I have to adapt the contents to the varying price.

But you can still get the 20$ version on SubscribeStar, and I'll set it up on itch.io as well for those who want to buy it there once the game is finished. If you still can't buy it there, we'll explore other options as well. Don't worry, there's always a solution.

(I always worry about posting things to justify monetization, because I'm afraid I'll suck at explaining myself and just end up sounding like a greedy motherfucker^^)

Thank you for the answer and the work you do, since Hanataka (creator of OG NTRPGs) vanished you became like his western Reincarnation and chapter 3 may even be the NTRPG "4" that many had been waiting for.

But my main gripe is not monetization itself but that Steam version feels "inferior" without 100% of bonus scenes. Like, would you rather buy, lets say an RPG game with 35 missions or 30, knowing that on other stores there is 35 version available? Because i cant just knowingly pay money for inferior version, even if its a bit cheaper. Itchio and SS are good but still i have to go through all hussle to register an account there and find a way to pay, and living in Russia doing that is a bit difficult atm, why not just put the game with 100% bonus scenes on Steam where i can easily buy it? Tbh i would just rather wait for 20$ leak than doing all the hoops required to get "full" version.

Edit. BTW there is so much crap on steam even for 70$, imo asking 20$ for your game of pretty high quality and production values is fine, Im willing to pay even 30-40$ on steam for it. Or just sell bonus scenes as like 5$ DLC

Speaking of Steam. N_taii
Wouldn't it be better to do it this way? Release a separate version for $5, without the bonus. I won't say the price, because I don't know which is correct or better, but here's an example. Without the bonus it will be $15, and then sell separate DLC
for $10. And then the game will be complete, whoever wants the bonus will buy it.
median income is 7k$ per month with matching living costs
And they told me that in Europe everything is cheap and the salaries are great. And the taxes are fair.

There's nothing wrong with asking for a link, ather all this IS a pirate site, amongst other things, and sharing links is a part of it, i just found it extremely funny that you made whole new account just to ask for it xd
