VN - Ren'Py - High Desire [Ep.2] [Wingmen Labs]

Animations are above average for a VN but that's about it. Character models and visuals are average at best. Story takes a good start but get's pretty basic quickly. All the typical stereotypes you expect in a VN. So not a highlight but still decent to play.

It's weird, I thought the first episode had a ton of potential and I liked the story, but as soon as episode 2 starts, the MC turns into a douchebag? Like seriously, flips a switch and is just an insufferable douche to his dad's new girlfriend, overtly hostile, and just unfun to listen to. I get that he and his dad have MAJOR issues, but having no choice in how the MC reacts to this situation is off putting, I don't much care for playing a game where the MC is a dick for no good reason. Leaving it at 3 stars because the first chapter was good, hopefully there's more choice later on about how the MC acts because this episode was annoying.

Review for Ep.2

Another tougher one to rate for me. I have a personal category a lot of AVNs seem to fall into that's essentially "high production value, subpar writing." This game falls into that category I think. But considering a lot of the games I usually give that label, this is above most of them. It's not as if any of the writing in this game is egregiously bad or anything, but after playing these two episodes for a few hours you ask yourself if you're feeling compelled to come back to it at the end. Truthfully, I'm really not. That's really my main problem with High Desire so far. There's nothing really hooking me.

The entire game thus far, outside of one specific scene, takes this very nonchalant mood. The game describes the MC having "big dreams of becoming a racing driver" After playing it, it almost feels like he's racing more as a hobby he occasionally does to make money. That passion he is suppose to have does not get portrayed. It feels like it's just missing emotion or enthusiasm. It talks about the MCs past and how he used to race and such all the time, but never shows us any of it. The way he talks about it just feels like conversational filler is maybe a way to put it.

This problem kinda plays into everything really. Light spoilers, but the event that sets him off the path is his mom passing away from disease and his father being that shitty rich dad who only cares about his work trope. They get into a fight right after his mother passes, the father kicks him out and we get a ten month time skip of him disappearing and becoming an alcoholic living off the money he had left. While it makes sense to move the plot forward, none of it really felt deeper than that. There was no real reason for us the player to be attached to the mom. All I got out of it was that she wanted us to go to university and gave us a cool model car at some point. The dad is a dick sure, but it feels like he's an NPC saying the same kind of lines you've heard before.

Then you get to the rest of the main cast. Ruby, our best friend or something? Takes us in after we get robbed of the last of our money. That's literally all her character has done so far though. Again, the game never takes time to explore why her and the MC's friendship is so deep. How they know each other. Anything they might have gotten up to over the years. Resulting in a character who just feels like a plot device for the MC having somewhere to stay. There's your mechanic friend who has the same issue really, but instead of a place to live he provides you a place to work and some connections. We eventually join a racing crew with two other people. Felix, the leader, could be a great mentor character considering the MC's shitty relationship with his dad. But Felix has done nothing but drop a bit of racing lore here and there. I could go on and on with every character but what I'm trying to get across is that none of them really get you invested in them as characters. The sex scenes as well have all been causal hookups, not much romance to speak of either.

There is one moment where emotion really DOES feel like it's shown, and that's when the MC runs into his dad's new girlfriend. He was justifiably pissed and it was a good tense scene. That's like the only conflict in this whole thing so far though. I do think the whole mystery you're start to uncover involving the car you're trying to restore could be interesting as well. It seems like that's the bigger piece of the story than the racing honestly.

What the game excels at, even more than a lot of the other higher quality visual novels, is the visuals themselves. Don't think I've ever seen cutscenes done to this level in a lewd game. It's pretty neat. Really does bring the racing to life and is just an overall nice feature to have. Models fall a bit more on the realistic side, but I don't think any of them look bad. Sex scene animations were nice enough as well baring the writing portion of them. The music and especially the sound effects add a lot to it as well. Not a lot of complaints with that aspect of the game.

The game really isn't bad, it's just a bit boring for me. I do think episode two was an improvement over the first, but still not enough to really draw me into the game. Might check it out again in the future, but this currently isn't something I'd be waiting on.

Could possibly be one of the best game on here if it continues to follow this trajectory.

Love the story so far, love the characters and development of them and absolutely love the choice of cars. I've owned 3 of the cars used and currently own a Mitsubishi Evo 5 so the choice of using a 8/9 excites me to no end.

Hoping there is much more to come with this as it ticks every interest box for myself, keep up the good work!

Alright, let's start from the beginning.

Despite having played probably thousands of VNs over the years, I dont think I've ever seen this one til a few days ago when Episode 2 was uploaded here.
Noticed the spam of 5-stars. People commenting on how extremely well the animations are, the writing, the...well everything.
So being sceptical as I am when it comes to most reviews on F95 (people REALLY need to understand what a 1 or 5 star rating truly means), I figured that hey maybe this one is actually a masterpiece, I mean SO many 5-star reviews, just gushing over this VN.

So today I got around to play thru the entire 'current' content, for the first time.
And finished it some minutes ago.
My impression, opinion and thoughts are incoming, but let me first get right down to the bottom line of this review - This is by NO MEANS a 5-star VN.
I won't argue with other peoples' reviews and thoughts, it's theirs, just like THIS is my review and opinion.
But you gotta ask, when are people gonna stop being so gung-ho with their 5-star ratings?
You see a game with basically 5-star rating, AND several reviews, you can't help but think that this VN has to be one helluva ride(pun intended) right?

Yet, I found this VN rather tiresome and drawn out, and ..boring to be frank.

All respect and kudos to the Dev, I can see and appreciate the work put into many of the scenes and/or animations. But I'm NOT gonna give this a 5 star, it's FAR from a "masterpiece".
To me, this is..average.

Let's get over some of the good and the bad of these first 2-3 chapters (chapter 0 counts I guess...who tf calls it chapter 0? call it prologue or chapter 1 instead)

Good; The girls are...OK. They are attractive enough. SOME of them. This topic is also in the "Bad" section of the review btw.
Animations are pretty good. Unlike one review I read, this is NOT by a mile close to the "game with the best animations I've ever seen". Animations are mostly well done, but definitely not "the best thing ever". Good enough. Definitely way above the average animation quality you find in most VNs.
The atmosphere is pretty well created. I cant put my finger on exactly what makes it so good. I found myself sometimes being pulled in, which very few VNs manages to do. Sadly it's only for a brief moment, but it does happen.
The writing is overall way above average, not the best, but much better than *most* other VNs I've tried. It can get a bit longwinded sometimes, certain scenes that is.

There's probably some more "good" things, but that's all for now.

the BAD:
As I said as a conclusion - somewhat boring overall. I said it pulls me in sometimes, but it's rare but it does at least happen. But the other 95% of the time I'm just waiting for something to f-cking HAPPEN.
It's not even a "slice of life" VN, where I could understand the daily life doesnt always get exciting. But this story - if we can call it a story - is everywhere, and NOwhere at the same time. I'm not supposed to be bored, rolling thumbs waiting for something exciting to happen, am I? Yet this is exactly what I ended up doing. Remember, according to the reviews, this game is a Masterpiece, flawless, 5 out of 5. And here I sit wondering, which of these reviews are made by the dev's alt-accounts? Or are people just THAT extremely easy to please?
I've played slowburn games, I've played VNs that throw sex scenes at you right of the bat. Or some action set piece. But this one, feels like it's just trying to roll down a hill, with no goal, no aim, just rolling...making me sleepy in the process.
Don't get me wrong, I am NOT someone that wants/needs/expect lewd scenes every 5 minutes. IF the story is hooking me, I could easily enjoy the VN with zero lewd scenes. I'm not allowed to mention other VNs in a review, so I can't make examples. But take a game like "SG" (if u know, you know) that one has not exactly spoiled us with lewd stuff - yet THAT VN is way closer to a 5-star than this...game. My point is, the lewd stuff has barely anything to do with my opinion and rating of this particular VN.
Problem is just that nothing else is really happening to keep me interested.

Let's talk about the FEW lewd scenes this VN has mustered up so far - which is VERY few.
I give anyone who played the game and read this review, a homework. COUNT the number of renders where you can see a pussy. Do it.
It's like this dev is afraid of showing pussies, but GLADLY show's the MC's dick every single time.
Basically NO renders with pussy that I can remember, and ZERO penetration renders. It's all so extremely softcore.
But it's on par with the overall impression of this VN, it's just...rolling on, not really excelling in anything. Lewd scenes are boring without at least one or two explicit renders in them. The animations are pretty well done though!
But in one lewd scene with a certain girl (towards the latter half of EP2, MC stays with someone instead of driving home in the rain - wont say more due to spoilers) we actually get to see a tiny bit of MC's dick as he takes her Doggy. And from that angle alone I think I might see why the dev doesnt show us even ONE render of actual penetration. And this angle/animation I'm talking about, shows a problem many VNs have with animations, you can literally see that the dick is not actually going into a hole AT ALL. Because of the way the dick is posititioned, not even the butthole would be penetrated based ono the location of the dick (this explanation sounds so effing dumb lol)

Some inconsistancies in the writing too. Yet you see people GUSH over the writing.
After MC met Melina(?) forgot her name but whatever. She told the MC that his dad had told her he was divorced.
Yet a few scenes later when MC is in the car, talking about this with whoever was in the car with him, he says that Melina said she "did not know he was divorced"
EH? how the Fudge does that make any sense? She literally said minutes ago she was TOLD he was divorced (which he wasnt). But then it's re-told and she didnt know he was divorced?
Yea, totally 5 out of 5 writing here folks.

Things also seems to happen very convenient -which isn't really THAT bad, as movies etc has done this "trick" for years.
Like, MC ends up homeless basically, for a little while, because lo and behold, suddenly and old friend that he haven't seen in a year or whatever, is suddenly there. And he's "saved". What a f-cking lucky coincidence that in this city, this very place and this very moment, they found eachother so he didnt have to sleep on a park bench. Wow. Contrived maybe?


By no means could *I* write a better story, definitely not. Nor could I make animations this 'good'. And in no shape or form is this an attack on the game or the dev. HOWEVER, this game, thanks to previous reviews, has given this game a WAY too high rating. It's really misleading, it's not even close to a 5 out of 5.
Sure maybe every single review *after* mine will keep pushing for 5 star, but I can at least with good conciene leave my thoughts and opinions for others to read, for people that is NOT easily impressed by...whatever there is to be impressed about here.

Again, most animations are well made. Atmosphere is often pretty dang good and well made.
Some of the girls are pretty, well pretty enough to like them on a surface level.
Some of the girls are NOT attractive.
But those things I dont really want to base a rating on, as we all like what we like when it comes to the looks of girls (or guys?).

So, in a way I'm sorry dear "Wingmen Labs" but this is really not a 5/5 - and obviously it's (hopefully not) not you who claimed it to be so. I hope this review doesnt kill any momentum or joy you have in making this VN. It's definitely a good enough VN.
My frustration goes towards these 5-stars, making this sound like the perfect VN, flawless, a *masterpiece*. Imagine my disappointment when it's far from a masterpiece.

I do have hopes for this one. This is probably just still "early days" in the so-called story.
But that's what this review is about, what's in the game *NOW*.
The game is NOT worth my time for it's "story". It's NOT worth my time for the lewd stuff - which is as exciting to watch as some german softcore porn from the 80s.
Not many of the characters are THAT likeable. No one that I disliked, but no one really managed to make me feel "I like this character". They are just...there. Ruby seems to be the best girl so far, but they also go waaay back.
Her friend..celeste? Just comes off as a nutcase - dont stick your dick in crazy man.
Yuna? meh. boring.
Forgot the name of the others, Stella? Well she seemed like she could be a bit spicey, but lost interest in her rather quickly.

Though some of the girls are yet to really shine, I do need to give a serious plus point regarding the girls overall. They all feel and look pretty unique, not your typical female model you see in every VN out there. So for that, I applaud the dev. Now just make them more interesting too

It might sound harsh at the end of a review, but I think the lucky ones of the characters in this VN, is actually MC's mom. At least based on current content - what a bloody drag this was.

Again, apologies to Wingmen Labs if this review came off as "hostile" etc.

There's nothing saying that this can't become a friggin great VN, but right NOW, there's literally hundreds of more interesting VNs - in MY opinion.
I do wish the absolute best to the dev, for this VN. And I truly do want to see where this one ends up eventually. I just hope the journey gets more..fun and exciting.

It's funny, I think we(as the players) are supposed to have the hots for Ruby. Yet the female I personally want to know more about, is for some reason, Melina..dunno WHY. But she's more interesting to me than any of the other "ladies" - again I dunno why. (not a milf-fetish or anything like that lol)

Story somehow gets praised in other reviews. Yet there isn't really that much of a story. There's no real hook, nothing that made me feel like "damn I cant wait for the next episode". I'm literally bored out of my mind.
Lewd scenes are bad and good. Animations are often decent. But no real build up, it's zero feelings or emotions involved. Literally feels like dev just threw in random sex scenes to fill a quota. Oh and pulling from my so-so memory now, I'm pretty sure there's not a single image of a pussy or penetration. Add all this together, you can have the greatest animations of all times(which this is not!) and yet the lewd scenes fall very VERY flat. These scenes are NOT hot, and are about as interesting as the rest of the game - that's to say, not very.
The so called "love interests" implies they are interesting. They are not. Most of the ladies have NO depth - another weird comment in most of the weird reviews here. Story aint great. The ladies are somewhat unique, but not much depth, makes it really hard to really care for or like any of them.

3 out of 5 is all I can give it as of now (Episode 2). I *WILL* if warrented, edit this review after several more updates, IF there's a valid reason to change my score. it's really more a 3.5.
Conclusion, based on the *current* content - the real winner here really was MC's mom.

Im honestly suprised that this game gets so little attention. This is easily top 3 if not the best quality of animations Ive ever seen on this site. Story writing is also engaging eventhough theres still so little of it, but I can see the devs are putting in a lot of hard work. This game has so much potential, props to the devs, keep it up, I believe this could turn out to be the best AVN out there.

Amazing transitions and animations.
The story is a little thin, and the female models aren't as clean as they could be, but I'm rating it 5 stars anyway to help the algorithm promote this game, as it's definitely worth developing further. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Review for Ep.1
This game deserves nothing less than five stars. Just looking at the first animation already u realise this is the beginning of a masterpiece. The graphics are by far the best part of this game. Top notch and incredibly smooth animations as well. The dev does not just use animations for sex scenes, but also in other places to really get the game to another level.

So yeah the visuals are simply amazing, but what about the depth of this game. Well as this is the first episode i've been pleasantly surprised. This is not just boring eye-candy, this game also has a interesting storyline. I will say its not the most unique of storylines but its fine and set up nicely.

The charachters are all well-developed. The dev really manages to make every charachter come alive in this game (also each charachter is introduced with a little animation!). The relationships that the MC is forming atm are also realistic. Things are slowely progressing which makes sense considering the situation the MC is in.

The only downside is that the girls are not that hot to me. The graphics and animations are so good, I kinda expected the girls to be smoking hot as well. They are definitely not ugly, but imo they underachieve compared to the quality of the graphics/animations but maybe thats just me.

Just download this game already and give it a try, because if this dev does not quit its going to be a great succes.

Congratulations, for this excellent start!

On par with the really compelling visual novels like "Where it all began" or the likes for "Chasing Sunsets".
Having a cinematic visual approach, with excellent animations and pictures where the details, like depth of field and foucs are working, paired with a story that differs from the usual approach of "young guy, sister and mom in the same household", while playing with the topic to reminisce it, and giving it a character development, with some real world visual looks and textures, that far away from blatantly plastiky and polished like a doll, is refreshing.

A long start for the first chapter. Really appreciated it so far and looking for more to come.

High desire Ep 1

Remember playing the prologue when it released and enjoyed it since it's short didn't reviewed at that time. Now after a long wait we got episode 1 and it's worth waiting. Hope this one gets more attention this time. This one got potential to become one of the best games here. Got nice story and visuals. We don't have many racing games here if you love racing games you gonna enjoy this

Great game, so far. The models are pretty and diverse, each character has an unique personality and the story is very enganging. Is one of thoses games were you actually care about the narrative and each characters and you're not just playing it for the fap.

This has got to be one of the best intros and chapter one I have read in a while. It kinda has the vibe of another game that was well loved through completion. (not sure if I can mention that game here)

It's difficult to add much to what the other reviews have already highlighted, but I have to say, this game is truly exceptional. The cinematics are stunning and the overall quality is impressive—not just the renders and scenes, but also the storytelling and narrative flow. It only just begun, but it's already made it to my top-tier list. Kudos to the developers for an outstanding job.

Wow , just wow. Wingmen Labs need more supporters. Been here a while playing games. Possibly the most engaging story I have ever come across. The dialogue responses are so balanced and hard to choose. I like that. Renders are very good, especially facial expression. Animations and cinematics are just so good. Active here too.

That's gonna be the game of the year if it goes with consistent updates! TRUST
