Ren'Py - Home for Wayward Travellers [v0.20 Public] [Aegis]

This game is definitely interesting. The story is fairly unique, and the characters are well written. They all have very distinct personalities that stay consistent. There's decent character growth for all of them throughout the story as well.

There are some jokes about the MC being a little dumb, but it's not his whole character. Too many of these games follow the stupid, unskilled at life in general, and horny MC trope. This always makes it irritating that a person like that could get ANY girl, much less a whole harem. In this game, there's just some self depreciating humor towards the MC, but he's generally a decent person that works hard and is caring.

The one and only thing I have a big problem with is the spelling, grammar and sentence structure. This game desperately needs a proofreader. There are constant mistakes that detract from an otherwise pleasant experience. The UI and navigation is a bit large, bulky and slightly cumbersome to use as well. It takes some getting used to, for sure.

In summary, the story is interesting, the characters are well written, engaging and grow with the story, and the MC is a decent person. Aside from needing a proofreader, this is a pretty solid game that I enjoy playing and will continue to watch for updates.

Review as of v0.18:

Overall the game is very good. The dev has continued produce updates in a timely fashion. They have accepted feedback when issues are spotted, and are quick to fix them. The animations are decent, the dialog is better than a large swath of the games on this site, and in general, the characters are all pretty well developed.

This game has a good mix of story and lewd, and is one of the ones I look forward to when new updates arrive.

Enjoying the game so far. Charming cast of characters with a premise believable enough for an AVN.

Definitely not in the hardcore degenerate category that so many other games fall into. To be honest it's refreshing to embrace a story that isn't trying to trigger every extreme fetish to be found here.

I like the characters and I'm curious to see how the story ends. You should give it a chance.

As of version 0.12, we have a game that's quite good. I'd put it in the top 40% of games, thus better than average.


I had fun playing it.

The girls are lovely, and each has a personality.

It's a series of inventive vignettes that are mostly easy to find even though it's a sandbox.

The renders get better as the game progresses, but even the beginning renders are good.

Most of the renders are from too distant of a vantage point.

There aren't many sex scenes, but they're good when they happen.

It's odd that after having sex, there is often a long period of time before sex happens again with the same girl. This delay works with Emma and fits her personality. But it doesn't make sense for most of the other girls.

The girls in the house are much better than the girls in the lab and in the offices associated with the lab.

The house girls are more distinct, and it would be better to limit the story to them instead of adding more.

The sci fi settings feel forced.

The long Western sequence makes psychological sense with respect to Emma's development.

It's a slow progression, probably too slow.

Most will probably want more sex scenes, but maybe it's time in the upcoming version 0.13 to really start the harem?

The developer has a good erotic imagination, and he understands the motivations behind the girl's sexual desires, which is often not seen in these games. So, that's very good.

I found no bugs.

The only annoyance was the direction "Sara is going upstairs" which means "to the balcony." Otherwise, I found my way through the sandbox without trouble.

In sum: No grind. Charming vignettes. Good sex scenes when they happen (not often enough). The renders don't have enough close ups, and are taken from too distant of a vantage point. The girls are distinct. Some are very pretty (Emma), others not as good. Overall a good game.

Had fun playing it, and want to know what happens next.

As of v0.4.1 Home For Wayward Travelers is a broken mess. The sci-fi premise gets only the tiniest bit of attention. It is essentially a collection of unfinished scenes about a bunch of girls sharing a house, loosely strung together by a sandbox and some duct tape. The only thing it has going for it are some cute HS-generated girls. If the scenes were finished and assembled in a logical format, I think the game might deserve two stars; but in the current iteration I can give only one.

I was going to make a regular review but after seeing that 2 star from mikesDK I thought i’d address that instead since it’s overly harsh and just outright lies on more than one occasion (If you head over to his recent activity it seems all he does is give out terrible 1 / 2 star reviews). Who hurt you dude seriously who hurt you?

The story, there isn’t much of one right now since it is only version 0.3 as of writing this but what we do have seems intriguing at least.

As for the claims of it being a mindless fuckfest, I really don’t know what he’s on about here there are 12 characters in game only three of whom have scenes I’m pretty sure only one of them has more than one, and none of them are fucking. I will admit these scenes are pretty early but It makes sense for these characters.

One is very laidback and easy going, one is a forward no nonsense type and the third while being new to sexual endeavours is also fairly no nonsense and has the first girl as a guide/influence.

The sandbox, this is a stripped back sandbox, it's basically just there so you can choose who’s quest you want to do, no grinding for stats or money. Guess this comes down to personal preference, I happen to like it this way.

Movement, the original movement system has had many complaints so the dev added an entirely new system leaving the old one as an optional extra, seems a little pointless to complain about something you don’t need to use and the new system is very straightforward to use just two clicks to get anywhere. As for ‘just clicking randomly to see if something happens’, the game has a quest log that tells you exactly where to go for each quest.

It is true that none of the girls are optional. I know some people don’t like this can’t say it’s ever bothered me though. As for forced fetishes, god knows what he’s complaining about here, there is only one thing in the game currently that I would consider a fetish and that’s lesbian content which is entirely optional.

Girls, everyone is entitled to not like characters but to say there is no diversity and everyone is just a big tit bimbo is a load of bunk. You just have to look at the banner image to see that.
For the main girls I would say 3 are big of tit, 1 one is medium and 2 are small, then the secondaries are split 2 big and 4 small so even if you upgrade the medium to a large that's still a 50/50 split.

Animation, it’s true that there isn’t much yet (supprising for what is supposedly a complete fuck fest) and what is there isn’t great. Not the worst I’ve seen but far from the best. Though to be honest I’m just glad it’s not the same default HS animation we’ve all seen a 100 times.

Music - none yet but the dev said it’s on the todo.

Choices there are indeed none other than the lesbian toggles, but again there are no forced fetishes.

All in all I’m enjoying this game and think it has a lot of potential. You can tell it's the first project from a new dev so don’t expect it to be perfect. But the characters are diverse and enjoyable, the plot seems intriguing and the Dev seems committed to frequent updates and listening to feedback.

Tl;DR Ignore that nonsense 2 star and check the game out for yourself. I think it’s pretty good, and look forward to further updates.

Story is pretty bland and boring and it dosent help that its just yet another mindless fuckfest game and all out kinetic on top of that.

Sandbox is mostly just annoying and theres no point even having it, you cant skip a girl by not doing her quests, so the only freedom is what order do you want to do quests in and thats about it, moving around is annoying with the arrow shit and the mini map helps a little but stil still boring, it has 3 areas and each area has multiple locations so you end out just clicking them randomly to see if something happens, its just meh.

Girls are forced since you got no choices in this game you just follow along fuck whatever moves, so fetishes are forced as well, theres plenty of girls i wouldent want to touch at all but MC fucks em anyway so it becomes a turn-off game very fast.

I wish devs would start thinking more about story instend of just trowing sex scenes in the face of the players, games like this one is just a waste of time since you dont get to feel anything for anyone without relationship build-up and having no choices is boring and why i dont play kinetic games, if i just wanted to watch mindless sex animations i would just go to a porn site which would be much faster....

There are none, consider this an all out kinetic novel, all girls and fetishes forced.

I like the premise of the game, and the characters seem to be somewhat interesting, but the navigation is clumsy and counter-intuitive, which makes it difficult to do anything in the game. When I say counter-intuitive, I'm referring to the fact that all navigation is via 4 arrows, but in scenes where it looks like you should be able to move forward, often the forward arrow does nothing. In addition, when you move left using the left arrow, the right arrow does not take you back where you started. I've played through a couple days and I still have no sense of the layout of the house because of the difficulty in moving from place to place.

I'm upgrading my rating based on improvements in the navigation of the game. The arrows are still counter-intuitive, but the addition of room icons makes it quite usable.
