After your father’s passing, your mother decided to rent out rooms in the family house to restore financial stability.
Although you’re used to the feminine presence of your sisters, the arrival of new tenants will change the dynamic of your peaceful life at home!
Discover the charms and mysteries of these 11 girls in the game Homesex Rental!

Language: English, French

Gameplay:
The game is a basic Nukige Visual Novel. You'll be able to chose any girl on a map to unlock their next event, and so on until you finish the girl's route.
Each girl will have 1 ending, and I'm planning multiple harem endings, but we're still far from it.

Current State of the game:

Still working on the sprites and the events. I'm training to draw more H scenes before doing the first one, I'm expecting to have a private prototype in February, that will be in French. And after I'm sure everything is fine, release the first public version in May in English.

Developer's note:
For this game, I want to do a good old little visual novel. No training system, no farming, no choices, no story that takes itself too seriously. Just something that could you see from a Japanese company like Atelier Kaguya: Big breasts and sex.
I'm also working with an artist for the backgrounds, so I hope our artstyles will not clash too much.

Wow look at those bellies...

I love it! The art style and the character designs are very unique!

Any plans for animating scenes? While complex it can actually be quite popular...

Looks like a great project! I wish you all the luck! I will keep it on watch ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Thanks, glad you like it!
Tummies for the win!

I'm not planning to animate scenes. I don't have the skill, and I want to deliver something first before thinking of doing time-consuming features. Especially since Renpy use lots of performances, so that means I should optimize the code, or switch the engine.

Aside if this game is making me tons of money and I could hire someone(which let's be honest, will not happen), it's clearly not in the pipelline.

Yeah! I love me a well toned and defined body

Agreed, it's best to start with the basics, then go with the complex stuff... As it can cause burnout.

Still once you reach a certain point in development do give it a try, personally I mostly and only choose animated tags as a "consumer", I'm not familiar with 2D animation's techniques but I've read Live2D can be used. Heck, if you reach that point you could try looking into how NIKKE handles its Live2D with Live2D Visualizer "quite complex but it's an example". Not saying you should aim into that level... Just inspire yourself or use it as reference.

As for Ren'Py using a lot of performance, I'm curious about what you mean? I haven't got performance issues yet in my development, and I'm using a lot of math functions (" logarithmic, multipliers") and variables. Are you using loops? Like "for" or "while"? But I do notice it takes 15-30 seconds to start though... I'm not sure if that is the issue.

I'd also suggest looking at other game's codes, maybe you can find a technique or two to get a better understanding of Ren'Py. Even simple sprite movement can add appeal!

I'm not suggesting you jump into Animating CG straight away, as you said it's time consuming and will leave little time for other things, do what's more comfortable to you, I'm just giving ideas!

All the games I've played with live 2D animation have always some lag. So if I wanna do something that I would feel good, I would probably have to understand the Renpy"s engine core. But Python is a slow language, so there will be always this constraint.
And I'm currently having some lags, but it's mostly because I use big images that can move a lot. My VN is already quite dynamic though !

But I'm not against it, but yeah, I'm just trying to make something playable before thinking of anything else.
Thank you for your interest though!

Ah, True that, Python is kinda a slow language itself, I remember seeing it ranked as one of the worst in terms of latency for games lol. Still it's quite effective and kinda easy to learn, it works well for mathematical functions too.

Making the game dynamic is the best thing indeed! Surely it will appeal a lot!

I recommend checking your CPU/GPU usage in task manager and the memory usage even the memory usage of the GPU. That kind of debugging. Ren'Py is memory heavy if it has a lot of images.

I also recommend making most if not all your images to .WEBP, trust me it will save a lot of space, here is the command I use for ImageMagick

magick mogrify -format webp -quality 95 *.png

Change .png to your image format, adjust quality as needed, 95 is quite good already and at most you will get a 1/7th size reduction to your images! Puts less strain on memory too. To use it simply "Shift+RightClick" the image folder you want to modify and select the "PowerShell" option and paste the command. Btw it's alpha channel compatible! Well, you can use your
Art Program too to export to .WEBP.

Of course do install ImageMagick before hand, it's free!

I'm attaching a snippet of my code, I don't know if it helps, but this helps "set up a 'curtain'" for example, by making the scene fade to black, then "lifting" the 'curtain' or the black scene, making it so the sprites and background are prepared beforehand!

You should get a smooth transition using these workarounds, still I'm not quite sure what lag might be, FPS drops or sprites blinking?

Might try to use some webp.
But as I've said, I currently have no optimization of the images. I load character in full body that can be twice the size.
