I used to see Hornycraft as a gold standard for what a parody H-game should be—funny, creative, making clever use of the source material, and with quality art and H-scenes.
…Which is why it's been so damn depressing and disappointing to see this game (and its developer) go completely off the rails.
I'll start off by saying I don't mind the Herobrine route in concept. A Minecraft H-game featuring straight-up creepypasta elements that lampshade the ridiculousness of the premise is really interesting! Unfortunately, the dev seems to have gotten incredibly butthurt over others' negative reactions to the Herobrine content, and now is consistently spending massive amounts of time adding extra Herobrine scenes that blur the lines between a big middle finger to the audience and straight-up guro. They're not interesting from a metatextual standpoint, they're not funny, and they're certainly not sexy.
This same sort of insecurity sabotaging the game is only becoming more and more pervasive in recent updates, too. The developer has doubled—no, tripled—down on including random, virulent transphobia in the game with no relevance to anything and no point besides making some random marginalized group that he doesn't like feel uncomfortable.
And to be clear, this isn't just some review-bomb because I personally don't like the dev. The content of the game as new updates come along is consistently getting lazier and lower-quality. New characters keep getting added without being expanded upon (including one who just randomly drops slurs constantly for no reason?), meaning none of them have particularly long stories or more than 1 or 2 H-scenes.
Hornycraft at this point is a bloated mess that reeks of wasted potential. If you can hold your nose and play it without getting turned off by all the dev's aggrieved rants and scatterbrained updates, more power to you—but I certainly can't.
