Can I ask....why is furry even a thing? No judgement, i'm just curious. Do you people get turned on by animals? Or is it because these are humanoid so its weird and twisted but in a hot way ? (I usually like twisted stories)

Some of it is just what people were exposed to when they were young that led to the interest. Such as games and cartoons with 'furry' or anthro types of characters that overtime grew into a more adult interest.
For others it's just a fascination with something that is different from you. Like how some people prefer to be with others of a different race or ethnicity to themself. Mixed race couples for instance. The furry aspect is just taking that further with adding animal races to the mix. The bonus to that is the fully human like interactions with those characters instead of them being actual feral animals. They have fully human intelligence and emotions but just in a different form. Unlike humans where it's mainly just different skin tones that make us different, furries and anthros have more. Fur patterns and colors, different races of animals, different sizes, tail styles or lack there of, paws and claws, and the other subset and all of it's differences, scalies/reptiles.
It's a different explanation for everyone though and to each their own of course. But in general that is how it somewhat starts. Also just poking on the internet when younger and discovering that was even a thing in the first place is a pretty good way to get people interested as well. :3

To be fair, the Elera furries are disgusting and greasy, they look like what happens when a non-furry movie director includes a realistic CG anthro in their movie, but shaved and covered in baby oil for some unknown reason.
Elera sticking to these disgusting designs after all the complaints is both impressive and annoying, I wish the game's characters were slightly less unappealing.
...or at least stopped being so greasy.
Anyway, uh, furries have different appeal for different people, like:
1. "Cats are cute, and girls are cute, so a catgirl must be CUTEx2".
2. Being able to get rid of "boring" human dicks and pussies, switching to weird animal dicks and such, like dog furries being able to knot women (even though 99.999% of furries don't know how knots/knotting works). Also multiple rows of nipples/boobs, if you're into that, I guess.
3. No chance of dealing with all this race-relations stuff dominating all media the last 10-15 years. (Minus some people making them explicitly a human race despite being an animal. IDK.)
4. Avoiding the uncanny valley entirely. Can't trigger that weird "looks like a human, but isn't" response in our brains if they're not human at all.
5. More character designs to pick from and enjoy. No more "human, but dark and has big nose" or "human, but green and short", now you get digitigrade cats with fangs and claws that like to lick people they like and purr when they're happy, or reptilians who are extra clingy because they like your body warmth, or cow women with honking bonbonkerohoobas.
6. More things to express emotions with, like tails and ears, purring, frills, going into heat, etc.
Plus some other stuff, IDK.
I can definitely see why Elera's characters would turn people away, they're so weird and gross looking that even lots of furries dip out.
The only reason I support/play the game is in the hopes Elera finally adds some actual content to the game and stops making new characters, and I like that I can toss a buck in per month and get unlimited access to literally everything the game will ever offer forever because my $1 outpaces Elera's dev speed, heh.

Remembered a big #7, with human characters, low-quality art and anatomy is obvious, we've seen IRL humans all our lives, so if their arms are a bit long or their eyes are 2mm out of place, they look off. With furries, we don't have as much of a thing to reference them to other than the base animal, and we don't have real anthros IRL, so the lowest quality art that we can tolerate is quite a bit lower.

Thank you for everyone who answered my question. Its really interesting and much less weird than I originally thought. I do like aliens or monster girls so you are right, its not that different. I'm also a 80s kid so I can't say that I never got turned on by a cartoon anthro.
So, like all sexuality its a spectrum. I don't think anyone thinks of it as weird and twisted who is actually a furry or thinks of as being like subversive, or particularly kinky. A lot of furries I know are fairly vanilla with their tastes. Most just find the tails, fur, ears and whatnot appealing because of the fact that it would be soft and warm and the type of man/woman you could hug and cuddle all over.
There's of course varying degrees and I think a lot of that has to do with what you experienced growing up. If someone's first crush was Maid Marian from Disney's Robinhood their current taste is going to be a lot different than if it were say Dixie from fox and the hound 2, or some other such weirdly heavily sexualized quadrupedal cartoon character. IMO this is on the weirdos at the studios and straight to dvd Disney movies are to blame for a lot of that. Even then I'd say 99% of people who like quadrupeds (called feral in furry circles, its a fairly small subset of the furry community. I'd say no more than maybe 5% of furries are into ferals and many use alt accounts or identities for their feral stuff because its not even widely accepted in the furry community.) are not into actual animals. Even quadrupeds are heavily anthropomorphized in furry art. They have more expressive faces that emote in similar ways to actual humans, tend to use their front paws as hands or even occasionally walk upright and generally the proportions are messed with in ways that make them more traditionally appealing (hourglass figures and etc) that are not present with actual animals as well as human level intelligence. Of course people who are into actual animals would probably like feral art, but that's more of a 1 sided relationship IMO. I don't think anyone actually gets into zoophilia from feral art. Also most people who are into ferals fully expect people to not understand it and tend to keep to their own, from what I have seen of the community.

80-90s mass media cartoons and ads/commercials that just tryin to show human characters in other light, like slogans "show your internal monster/animal" (like Orangina), of course just for more fun/more sales (and it works!). Or Tex Avery series, where you can see very much racist jokes, but covertly on anthro/furry characters (just bcs in 80-90s censorship and looks were mole lacky than today). All that things have put big marks in our minds and memories, that later makes us partly or fully furries, hehe.
