VN - Ren'Py - Completed - House Arrest [v2.0] [TK8000]

Depending on what you're looking for, this deserves two entirely different ratings.

This is sheer pornography. The story has no heart (it's hard to identify with anyone and what is expressed as love is really pity or lust) and is never coming from anything approaching reality. But if that's what you want, this is a 5 star production. The dialog in this is always coming in an intentionally cheesy porn style... and it's great. I laughed out loud a lot in this. Once I realized that's what it was, I started laughing and just enjoying the dialog and the absurd situations. It's kind funny and refreshing that this realizes that all the girls are bimbos ready to throw twaddle at this guy... so they make him turn it down to prolong the story, rather than making us grind out a thousand massages.

And at times the dialog is spotty as if translated from another language... but it's not that bad, in fact, it occurs in such a way that it gives the impression that it's done intentionally and it almost adds the to the comedic style... as if it's a parody of bad translations. You always understand what is being said and the mistranslations just add a charm.

As a mindless and humorous porn, this is 5 stars all the way. I loved Alanna and her refreshing honesty (once she got past her early character inconsistency). Any time a secret is meant to be kept quiet, she blurts out the awkward truth of it all... it's kinda great... there is zero false drama of simply waiting for someone to finally say what everyone's been thinking. Alanna always cuts to the chase. She's a lot of crazy fun.

But early on, I was looking for something more immersive, and the constant shifting of personality from moment to moment threw me off. First the guy wants the girl, but she doesn't want him. The very next scene she wants him and he doesn't want her. This goes back and forth for a while. All of the characters are guilty of changing motive and personality at the drop of a dime to fit whatever humorous dialog needed to be said, or just to create another sexy and absurd situation.

As far as gameplay, it's repetitive... at first it seems like it's not and you breeze thru the story never realizing the entire time that you're supposed to level up stats to pass checks at the end... which explicitly requires repeating the same clicks and dialog over and over ad nauseam... I had to replay this to get to the actual end because my girl couldn't cook or clean. There is no indication that not meeting a level will lock you out nor is there any indication that any of this will be tested at some point. And frankly, it's unclear that you have to repeat this stuff.

It would give me choices to act one way and then contradict that behavior in the next scene and offer exactly opposite. In short, the behaviors of the characters are all over the map. There is no consistency here. The attitude stays the same, generally... but the behavior is completely random. This provides a lot of humorous situations but lacks any immersion... it's like watching a sexy sketch show where every scene is brand new and the only consistent thing in the entire production is the theme of sex.

And the sex in this is hot. There is zero sexual dialog during the scenes and it relies on animated clips strung together to provide a short sex scene without clicking. It's like a little movie... it's Honey Select hot and technically well done... but it's entirely soulless. It's exactly like watching a porn. Heck, you might even think it's a good porn. It often is. But why not just watch porn? Didn't you come here for something more?

I did.

This is very entertaining, funny, and hot... but not immersive at all and pointless in this medium. The dialog and inner emotional thoughts during sex is really everything to this genre of games... I know why they went this route, proving the easier fap... but the emotional and erotic dialog of the sexual situations is sorely missing here. If you want mindless imagery and random hot but absurd situations, you'll dig this... it's a solid recommend. It's very good porn.

But if you came to this medium for 'more'... this is not for you. I got off... but then I just felt empty... just like having watched porn. I did enjoy this... a lot even... but not in any way like I had hoped to.

2 stars as an immersive visual novel... 5 as an entertaining and fun porn (if you ignore the grind and don't require the perfect ending).

It's worth noting that this does serve the rare pirate fetish... as every girl spends half the time with one eye in a state of wink... it's sure to shiver your timbers.

i didnt finish this game but i was pretty close. since i lost my save data i wont probably be able to complete it at this point.

TL;DR: Interesting scenes, plot is passable at best, disgustingly bad characters, some funny jokes here and there. The game is only good if you don't care about a good story or good characters.

In conclusion, House Arrest was clearly made without much thought put into anything. The story is bad, the characters are disgusting, the dialogue sounds like I'm reading a bunch of savages beating a coconut against the ground to communicate while screeching insults at each other, the game actively tries to keep you from enjoying anything. Hell, we're supposed to like Alanna since the whole story revolves around her and Joel, but the game managed to make her the most abhorrent character of the entire cast. If the sex scenes are all you're after, you might as well just download Honey Select, install a modpack and have fun.
I tried really hard to include good things about the game here, but those few positive points were all I could squeeze out. The game gets 2 stars because, despite being terrible, at least the situations were hot enough to make me imagine how good they could've been if not for the repugnant characters.

This game was a lot better then I thought it would be. I wasn't sure how I would feel about the style in the beginning and didn't think I would like it. The story was actually kind of interesting to play through and the animated scenes were super hot.

This really didn't grab me at all ... none of the characters are attractive and they have this kinda semi-asian art style that I didn't find appealing at all, and the weird spherical tits didn't help things... after a bit I swapped to the easy mode and skipped through to see if any of the smut grabbed me, and it didn't ... but it's fair to say there is a decent amount of content there for someone that finds they like this, but I'm surprised it was so highly rated when I was searching for something to play.

Well, it was more of a 4.5, but I felt generous.

This isn't my kind of game, I don't like the graphic, the plot is shallow at the very least, and the jokes aren't so great, nonetheless I had fun and got some good laughs out of this, I don't know if this is how the dev wanted it to be, but the result is good for me.
Moreover I liked the difference between the usual (equally vapor based) plots: here is the girl who wants to seduce the old step-uncle, and he is the one trying to resist, while getting hornier by every single moment, that was a nice change from the usual.

Harem content is good, and any work is appreciated. That said, the main character is ludicrously unlikable and unfunny. His dialogue sounds like it would be more suited for a middle school edgelord than any kind of adult. The plot is meanderingly bizarre. The art and sex scenes are pretty typical for indie 3d work, but there is a decent amount of it and it's pretty good.

It is a really FUN game to play!
It has been quite a while since the last time I actually enjoyed the lines between in-game characters, and it certainly gave me a couple of chuckle.
As for the plot, to be honest it is not perfect, but as an erotic game, it is more than enough to deliver the smooth transition and fun in between each sex scene.
The only part which other player find annoying is the grindy progression system, but for those who do not really want to "hardcore-gaming" an erotic game, even this complemented by the embedded in-game "cheat mode".
All in all, every aspect considered, this is by far the one of the most enjoyable visual novel games ever.

A quick personal suggestion, if we can just eliminate the progression system, and make the game more linear, there can be much more content with less to worry, right? Because I don't really think there is anyone who enjoy grinding in an erotic game while fapping the hell out, is there??

This is how a grinding game should look like. Yes, you need to repeat stuff, but I used already more words about it than necessary. Because it is easy ignorable. Ignore that I said grinding game!!!

Only real drawback that I saw no option to lower the stress to make it possible to get her good enough within 70 days. I would think all the orgasms are meaning that Alanna's stress level would go down to be relased enough for them.

But I'm not a big fan of replaying a game again and again, so I cheated to get the used days lower.

Story is exceptionally good with lots of humor and romance.
Characters are really well designed with real personalities.

One thing that really bored me was the ease that relationships developed. In beginning i thought that everything was very good, specially with Alanna. You need to answer questions to gain love points, but after a while EVERY girl just fell in players arms. After a while i felt like i was in one of those harem animes that the protagonist got thousands of girls but can't fell any interest for them. It was everything too easy, straight to sex. No hello, no kissing, only girls giving themselves to player. This took my interest of story and i spent more times skipping dialogs and skipping sex scenes.

It's rare that I play an H-game and think "Man, what a time well spent!". This was one of those rare cases. The characters and animations are pretty good especially considering it's done with Honey Select. The scenes were really hot and varied. But what I expected least of all. The story and characters were actually fun. There are some hilarious moments, the dynamics between the characters are something different from the usual stuff, and it's just a fun read. Highly recommended!

This game is a laugh riot, and I encourage anyone who is a fan of bitter old protagonists who dont give a fuck to try this one.

Graphics 4.5/5 - Your mileage may vary on this depending if your a tool that hates Honey Select models for no fucking reason or not. Personally I always liked them, since I have a soft spot for IllusionSoft games. TK8000 is using mods to alter the characters he can create and it shows, many of them are very good looking, the home where the game takes place is also pretty cool to look at.

Story 5/5 - The story is simple, yet lends itself well for tons of shenanigans to happen. Joel the MC is under house arrest due to being a drug dealer and shady business man, his niece Alanna comes to live with him and while she tries to seduce him at first to get out of having to go to school or work, she ends up falling in love herself instead. What follows is the story of Joel molding his niece into the perfect wife for him, and its hilarious to watch !

Characters 5/5 - Easily the best part of the game, every character is hilarious in this game, and Joel ties them all together in a glorious way, dude is a bitter old man who gives no fucks, yet is also pretty deep and kind under his shitty attitude, what he says to the girls is a direct contrast to what his actions to them are. He can call them a bitch 5 times in a single conversation, but also offer them a place to live if they are homeless.

A very good showing for the devs first completed game. Lots of girls in lots of pairing. The game play isn't all that interesting (stat building) but that's par for the course in adult games. Looking forward to TK8's next completed game.

It's way too easy and the stats and little grinding felt completely unnecessary (not a very grindy game though, don't be afraid), also, i'm not a big fan of all the young models even though alana is alright.
Apart from that, there's a lot of content, some scenes are very good and it's not broken english.

4 stars for the hot blonde neighbour "route" and scenes.

Review for 2.0 (Completed)

An excellent VN with fantastic writing. The sarcastic conversations between characters, the way they put each other down is some really fine humor writing and was consistently funny. Not a fan of Honey Select, but TK8000 makes them look as good as they ever will in this game, and I wish we had even more scenes with Erika. H-scenes animations were pretty good. Finally, there's a lot of scenes, with more extra scenes at the end in Sandbox mode, and there's even a cheat mode so you can just see everything in the game in one playthrough.

So overall a good game with writing that elevates it to 5-stars.

House Arrest is by far the best visual novel game I tried so far (I usually don't like VN).
Writing is plain excellent, especially the humor (I got far more laughs from this game than from any comedy I watched in a long time).
Story is very good, characters are alive & interesting and every ending I saw is very good.
Graphics & animations are very good (I didn't like girls outfits very much, but that is matter of taste).
There is also cheat mode to eliminate any grind.
I recommend this game to anyone who can do a light reading. Even if this game has nothing to offer in your sexual preferences (it will do for most people, I guess), story/characters/humor/etc are worth it.
