How do weighted ratings work on the F95?

I think I already know the Answer, but I just want to make sure.
How I think they work is that it's a mix between How long they have been on the site, the rating score, views and the Likes to that thread.
But if you look at the top-rated, you see that's not the case.

Pale Carnations is second on the board. But in 4th place is Desert Stalker.

Desert Stalker has twice the time on the site, more likes and views but is lower on the scale.
That's where it throws my guess out, is there a secret 5th thing?
(Just before anyone jumps the gun, these are both great games and I love them both, I am not arguing the scale placement just asking why it's placed like that.)

I'd like to know as well ;) And I suppose the value isn't calculated on the fly, but every 24h or so (cron job)?

Pale Carnation thread was started the 17 April 2020, while Desert Stalker one only started the 4 December 2020. So, your first assertion is totally wrong.

It's not a secret, the older is a ratting, the less accurate it is. And, while Pale Carnation stay relatively consistent, and its story improve with the time passing, Desert Stalker suffer from its developer choices. Between the optional NTR, the sandbox part that tend to be the only lewd part in some updates (while rarely being extended) and Fairy being almost systematically forgotten, nowadays the second one receive more "negative" ratting.

Why wouldn't you calculate the rating on the fly? It's a fairly trivial calculation that can easily be run after every rating change.
Yes, makes sense, thought about that possibility too. What I meant is that it's highly unlikely that it is calculated live at each select query (as that would be way too expensive right).

they use a bayesian average which is weighting the average based on the number of reviews, nothing else

desert stalker has more reviews than pale carnations and they both show 4.8 in ratings. but if they both had exactly 4.8 in average rating, desert stalker would place before pale carnations because of more reviews. so that means it's a rounding thing. pale carnations' 4.8 is in reality bigger than desert stalker's 4.8
