I am building something cool that would really benefit from a 64b compilation but since you perverts are my target audience, I figured I'd ask.

If you don't know - on windows vista and later type "System" in the start menu search and click on the "System" result. Unless you specifically see "32 bit" somewhere there, its 64. XP and older are most likely 32.

I'm currently using a machine that has Windows 10 64bit installed on it, but a low amount of ram (6gb). My personal preference is to use 32bit programs when I can as it uses a small amount of ram, whereas 64bit usually crashes my machine.

According to this survey, the gaming community is, in its overwhelming majority, using 64 bit systems.

I use 64bit, haven't used 32 for years.

I can't use 32 bit really being a gamer. With a lot of developers phasing out older Windows and 32 bit practically obsolete.

It won't be long until it's impossible to find new releases that run on 32 bit systems.

Yeah, there are a lot of real benefits to using 64b from developers side of things. Some are just for convenience like practically never running out of addressing space, some provide substantial performance increases through more efficient vectorization.

Almost all modern software can still run on 32b but at this point it would require lots of hacks and messy detours which is not great for stability.

Most real video games now will not run on a 32-bit operating system as you have a hard System cap of 4GB of system memory this includes Vram as well so if you have a 6GB GTX 1060 and 4GB RAM not all of it will be useable

If it's a small game, just make it a 32bit executable. That way it can work on both 32bit and 64bit machines. Save 64 bit when you absolutely need the performance. A small performance gain isn't worth cutting out a portion of your audience.

I agree with forbidden, I personally have a 64bit PC, but my best friend has a 32 one, just make it for both, it's better!

Depends on what you're using it for; at home my gaming pc and wife's laptop are 64 but my daughter's laptop is on 32; also have an older laptop that its on 32.

First i was using 64bit for my game, i was not doing abything special with that stuff so i figured since i'm not using much ram i would just export 32bit and both platforms can play.

I have both.but on the 64 bit I'm hesitant to install anything other than certified software.plus I have files and such from work.so the 32 bit its older and less expensive to replace.but I agree I don't see the advantage of only 64 bit exe .

There is no need to use 32bit executable
only benefit I see is slight speed addition on low-end system.
