Not sure where else to put this.

So totally new to F95, never heard of it before. I searched up a specific game, and F95zone (dot) to (dot) it was at the very top, literally the first result in DuckDuckGo. The site seemed legit, had a check prompt, formatted well, didn't have a reason to believe it was a copy/scam site. Downloaded from the Mega Mirror. Only afterwards did I figure out that the site is a clone/copy/scam site of this one.

Now I never opened the zip file, and the download was legit Mega, but am I just screwed and I should re-roll my computer ASAP to it's last save state, or am I over reacting? I had my VPN on at the time, and after I downloaded it, the website refuses outright to load on my browser, even if I turn the VPN off, which is what tipped me off something is weird about it. I'm running a Windows Defender scan all the same, just in case.

My biggest concern for you would be any passwords or banking info that maybe have been saved on your browser may have been compromised or files that have that sensitive information. I would also check task manager to see if anything weird is running in the background. Get rid of the file on your computer as well. Those are some key things I personally would check. Goodluck to you!

if you didn't run anything you downloaded, including shortcut files that may have been in the zip... or install some extension... or allow notifications or something similar from that site... and your browser isn't outdated... then there's probably no reason to worry

they're likely not doing anything beyond copy pasting for some quick ad revenue off of this sites name and the files themselves could be clean. ofcourse it's best not to trust what you found on impostor sites. sus

Nope, didn't run anything, didn't approve any notifications, and never opened the file up, deleted it right away. I'm running the latest version of DuckDuckGo

Yeah, I use DuckDuckGo as an incognito browser and always purge the browser when I'm done with it, so there shouldn't have been any sensitive information in the browser itself to steal. My biggest concern is malware hitching a ride on the file I downloaded. Windows Defender didn't find anything worth while though, so with luck I'm safe.
