If a game developer can't make a porn game that would be fun without the porn, then they shouldn't be making any game.

I'm so sick of these strategy games with no strategy and these slow ass platformers and beat em ups. I'm fine with a point in click game, I'm fine with a give x item to y person type game, I'm fine with a puzzle game, fuck I'm even fine with a text based sex game, just make it fun. If a dev can't make a game fun then they shouldn't make a game, why would they waste both of our time, when they can just make a comic or something.

Though I do prefer games that have gameplay, there is a place for VNs, and there are well-written ones that are worth... well, if not playing, at least clicking through.

I basically agree with you, although I think that good enough porn makes up for crappy game design. On the flip side, low quantities of porn can be offset by great games - like with The Last Sovereign.

I agree for "games" and even more for "visual novels", since some of the most interesting stuff I found were not exactly related with the porn side (like DrPinkCake stories).

I don't really see the point in adding gameplay to porn games at all.

If you want (insert favourite gameplay element) chances are that AAA-company X can make it better than indie dev Y.

And besides that, in my opinion these "games" are about a combination of story, choice and porn. But story and choice should support the porn, most of the time at least. It's bloody annoying to be confronted with some mini-game when you are trying to cum.

Japanese VN are basicly you're given choices which girl route you will play now. Most of the time further choices doesn't matter. And stories honestly makes me sleep. They're not engaging, lots of everyday life text with no plot purposely made to waste time. Not all, but most are written as gal game and plot later. It just makes me sleepy clicking through text with no substance for 5 hours.
West games choices doesn't matter most of the time. The only game I found engaging was good girl gone bad. It felt that your clicking matters and story changes.
I prefer simulation type games. Classic True Love, AV King, Princess maker, etc. They are hard to make, but just more fun when you have to discover mechanics and shape the game by how you play. Instead of being a passenger, you're a driver. That sort of thing.

Fair enough. The game format ought to add to the experience somehow, otherwise there's no reason for it to be a game over anything else.

Render naked 3D female is easy ... making porn games are not. Let the natural selection filtering them.

Most Western "Adult" Games are Garbage.
And I happen to like the small weird Japanese Hentai Games that appear here.
I also don't see the point in Story in Porn Games that is going to take "Decades to Finish".
I can fuckin read a novel that is actually good and actually finished.

My boner got blue balled 2 years ago waiting for character relationships to progress.
It's all the same slow milking in every project anyway.

OP that is your taste, i'm sure there are alot of people that really enjoy those games, so saying they shouldn't make games because you don't enjoy them is abit uncalled for.
Also if people ever want things to change, perhaps rephrasing your wording to something less insulting and more helpful would get a better response.
Something along the lines of "IMO x game is not fun to play and could be improved by IMO adding x,y,z :)

If I want that, I watch porn. No need to worry about engaging in a wholly passive medium.

If I am playing a game, I want choice. A chance to apply tactics and strategy is also appreciated. That's why I opened a game rather than a .mp4

The reason I open a porn game instead of a vanilla game is I also want some titillation with my choices. If all the dev is going to do is tell me a story, I'll go read erotica instead.

Maybe 1970's / 80's porn, but since then, it has really gone downhill if you are looking for some kind of story.

My personal attraction to adult games / VN's is choice. Not only to see or not see a certain scene or pursue a certain character but meaningful choices that alter the story.

But please leave the actual gameplay to the professionals... ;)

Sometimes the dev just wants to provide a visual story. Take MrDots games for instance, as a whole, they focus much more on the story than the porn. No gameplay required. But, in terms of sandbox and games that provide a game platform, I would agree with you 100%. Sometimes the devs need to take a step back and ask themselves, "If there were no boobies here, would people still play this?"

I don't really see the point in adding gameplay to porn games at all.
That really depends on the overall intent of the game. If it's just to provide a story or porn, then I agree, but if the dev wants to actually make a video game with porn elements then more power to them if they are able to provide an entertaining enough experience.

Of course. A dev is free to do whatever he wants. But the key thing is the "entertaining experience" as you put it.

From my experience, I have played maybe 2-3 adult games where the gameplay was actually interesting enough to play it purely for the gameplay. The only one that I discovered here being The Last Sovereign. Then the ones in which the gameplay was somewhat tolerable, maybe another 4-5...

Maybe it's just me, but in the vast majority of cases, gameplay is just a nuisance and distracting from the porn and/or story while not bringing anything by itself. E.g. in Milfy City, you had a "office clean up" minigame where you had to click on some garbage in your mom's office. I mean, what's the point? Maybe, like a sandbox where you constantly have to guess where the characters are, you are adding play time. But in my opinion it's just a complete waste of time and a reason to cheat and/or just quit and forget about it.

What you have hit on is the lack of balance. Regardless if they are an adult game or some other vanilla game, it comes down to execution of the game mechanics that's playable, interesting, and has appeal. Add in the "adult game" you have to have story and plot that all stimulates. And there is where I find disappointing in many games I have looked at. If your into watching porn, you will know that you can Google an aspect and you will find it on many pages and sites. Different characters doing the same thing--so if you seen one, you have seen them all (yes rather over simplistic but generally true.)

Now a good adult game needs the script, plot, character development to match the games theme. I am envious at the abilities of game developers' ability to build the game, and the artist ability to create the visual. But there stands the first weakness. Who is really going to spend the time it will take to really build a solid game. Its labor intensive from what I have researched.

But even more difficult is putting an idea together with a game so that the labor involved isn't wasted. It comes down to them making the player caring about what happens next, to unlock the next bit of the game; it comes down to plot; it comes down to character development (which is critical);and it simply comes down to who are behind the game that makes it a hit or flop.

Want a great game? Have a theme that appeals so talent can flesh it out. Someone might be a good dev, someone could be a good artist, while someone can be a good script writer but a weakens in one is a weakens in all when the final product is put out. And that all takes time to produce.

I do love me some time management, Sim Girls and Final Fantasy Sim date RPG are the games that lead me down this path after all. They always eat away at my time, but they typically force me to think, punish me in a way that that's fair and have good writing (according to 12 year old me.) The thing I really like about those games is how the grinding is meaningful and leads to a sex scene. So many rpgs have you grind mindlessly for hours and you get rewarded by a cut scene, if you want a sex scene you have to loose a battle, so you get punished with something good and rewarded with something mediocre.

I love your attitude, and usually I'd agree with you, but I feel like it's fine to be harsh and even mean when I don't call anything or anyone out, in this post what I say basically amounts to "I don't like it when a game isn't fun" the point wasn't to critique anything or even change anything, it was just to vent a bit. Thanks for your suggestion, I always appreciate seeing someone so level headed and kind on the internet.

Honestly what you're saying about gameplay and porn can be said about stories and porn. You want meaningful choices that alter the story and I want a fun challenge to overcome. let's just agree to disagree and enjoy a good fap.

Your personal preference are choice based Visual Novels. I enjoy those too, but everyone has their vices and some people love to play actual games too. Reason why I'm anticipating the StudioFOW Subverse game. A promising tactical sci-fi RPG video game with the hardcore action StudioFOW is known for.

The main problem, there are not enough devs who have the knowledge and experience in making an actual good game. But indie devs continue to try because there is a market for them. Hopefully Subverse turns out amazing and inspires experienced devs in game development to jump aboard and make more quality games.

I dislike mini-games in porn games personally. For text-only games though, having a good story that is not just about the sex is essential in my opinion, so many text-only games incoherently go from one sex scene to the other, with zero build up, and I get little enjoyment from that.
