VN If you had 100k dolars to develop a game, what would you spend it on and what kind of game would you make?

First of all I would like to thank you very much for your replies under my previous post I read all your replies and made some conclusions for myself (maybe I will create a post where I will tell about them).


In the meantime, an interesting idea came to my mind today and I would like to ask you about it. So imagine that you have a 100k dolars budget for the game, you can spend them on hiring developers advertising and anything else but it must be related to the game, also you can not do the game yourself and only give ideas.


Your main task is to at least go to zero, or in the plus. What you will do with this budget what game will create how many developers will hire how much time on the game will spend (limits on time is not, but the faster the better). Prsoto very interesting to know what is possible to realize with such a budget.

P.S. you can make Renpy or RPGM game, only this 2 genre, of course 18+

This is an insufficient amount of money to develop a game, unless I guess it is like a 5-10 minutes experience, especially if you are in the role of "ideas guy" and have to pay for experts.

You'd want to spend that money with the idea of trying to locate like minded people who will work for you "for the fun of it" and hope you can get away with flipping them a few hundred a month or so and they will somehow keep on board. They won't be dedicated to your cause though and probably will have about less than a year before they get bored or burned out unless you massively up the money, and you'll deplete your money fast.

I hope this helps. I've never done this sort of contractor hiring though for tiny projects like this but I've done it with larger stuff and this would get you about 5-6 months for one professional developer. Artists are probably cheaper and you could probably pay per-piece but unless you get them onboard they may not do constant work for you so you will have multiple artists with multiple styles scattered around each scene. You big money will be in the programmers and they don't come cheap.

TF is this madness?
Even if you could do this, you have about a 15-20% chance of breaking even after 7-10 years.

Just invest the 100k and do the work yourself on the side or as a hobby while working a traditional job. You'd be more profitable that way - almost guaranteed.

As the others said, this is not something to do. And I'll explain it very simply:

If you want competent persons at full time, count 3,000/month for each one, and you need at least three; coder, artist, writer. In 11 months you spend all you budget, with only 1,000 left for the promotion.
In such time, they'll just be able to make an average game. Assuming that the game will encounter an average success (~1,000/month in earning), in 9 years you'll get back your 100K.

If you invest the 100K wisely, you can get 200/month. 9 years later, you'll still have you 100K plus 21,600. If you chose a more risked investment you can loose everything, or have 100K + 100K at the end of the 9 years.


What doesn't mean that one can not invest 100K into a game development, but those 100K are money you don't need and can afford to loose. Yet, if you can afford to loose 100K, I'm sure that there's better way to do it.

That's if you wanna be a boss and do nothing.If a person can do one thing(coding,art,writing)that saves a lot,but i think that if
a person have 100k he surrely dont think about investing in game develop.At least 90% of people dont.

I’d pay $100 to have version 0.0.0.0.0.0.1 of a Ren’Py game made for me. Then I’d enjoy the rest of the money.

Buy 2 garages, rent them out... make the game yourself. Hiring a team will cost more than 100k.

I'd hire someone to make me a few assets that I want but can't make myself, build myself another system and a NAS. And spend the rest on marketing, once the game is about halfway finished. And just keep doing what I do now.

Okay, in the spirit of what OP seems to be going for. You have 10m and it must all be spent on game development, magical enforcement, no getting around it.

Making indie game has a negative expected ROI. So to maximize financial gain, the correct move is simply put the $100k in index fund and pretending you're making a game.
