Looks like I need to disconnect from the internet whenever I want the game to start. That fixed the problem for me.

Yes there are animations in SOME scenes with each of the girls. Only 2 or 3 at most. Not sure about the scenes in the Harem Route though. Haven't done it yet since it's being saved for the last.
