VN - Ren'Py - Imperial Chronicles [v0.12] [Lazy Monkey]

Simply one of the best games on the site and the best porn game overall. A captivating story with real branching paths, realistic and well-executed scenes, and excellent main characters with genuine development.

I didn't get hooked on the first few updates, but I've been actively following updates since version 0.5. Wife choice was added with that update))). It's rare that the games on this site have captivating plots, but I liked this one. My favorite characters are Isis and Leonard.

An Immersive Storyline
The narrative is the heartbeat of this game. Unlike many RPGs that rely on generic "save the world" tropes, the storyline here is a complex web of political intrigue, betrayal, and ancient folklore. Every choice you make carries weight, leading to branching paths that significantly alter the fate of the kingdom. The dialogue is sharp, and the world-building makes you feel like a living part of history.

Amazing game and I'd even say underrated on this site, which is rare. Even its current high rating isn't enough. Version reviewed: 0.11

Pros:

• Strong story that goes beyond sex
• Actual choices with consequences (at least so far)
• The MC has a personality. He has strengths and flaws, things that he wants and things that he doesn't. Of course, you can shape this.
• The different LIs also have different personalities and behave in different ways toward the MC.
• Extremely fast update cycle. Don't know what's going on, but Lazy Monkey is not an accurate name because the dev works faster than any other dev I've seen on this site.
• Fairly good, but not outstanding, visuals. Decent backgrounds, good lighting, and nice outfits. LIs also look varied from each other.

Cons:

• I praised the story, but it's actually quite complex and sometimes hard to follow due to that. Especially when you are playing update-to-update, it's easy to forget details that you've seen in a previous update.

Neutral:

• Lots of incest. You can't play this game without it.
• Some rape/forceful sex which can be avoided. You also need to coerce some LIs into having sex if you are pursuing them.

Review of Imperial Chronicles
Imperial Chronicles is a game that definitely deserves attention, although it’s not without a few shortcomings.

What I liked:

1. The plot. The story is well‑structured and engaging: it features intrigue, unexpected twists, and thoroughly developed key events. As you progress, you can feel the narrative evolving — it’s not just a series of missions for the sake of it. The plot keeps you hooked from start to finish.
2. The characters. The heroes are vivid and memorable. Each has their own motivation, personality, and visual uniqueness. It’s great to see that the developers paid attention not only to the main characters but also to the supporting ones: even minor characters feel “alive” and avoid feeling generic.
3. Visual style. The graphics and environment design are of a high standard. The level of detail in the surroundings, the animation, and the overall aesthetic create an atmosphere that immerses you in the game world. Cutscenes are particularly well done — they feel like mini‑films that enrich the storytelling.

What could be improved:

1. Music. The main drawback is the clear lack of a soundtrack. In a game set in a historical era, where music could emphasize the drama of scenes or capture the spirit of the times, there’s barely any. Silence during key moments reduces the emotional impact. It would be great to see:
   • thematic melodies for different locations (e.g., majestic ones for palace halls, tense ones for battle scenes);
   • dynamic tracks during combat;
   • leitmotifs for the main characters.

Conclusion

Imperial Chronicles is a solid game with a strong plot, charismatic characters, and pleasing visuals. If the developers added a quality soundtrack, it would become nearly perfect. Nevertheless, even in its current state, it leaves a positive impression and is recommended for those who appreciate well‑crafted stories and atmospheric worlds.

Rating: 8/10 (with potential to rise to 10/10 after improving the audio component).

That's a shit ton of content for a 2 year old game. This dev definitely has figured out how to do it right. Hopefully all smooth sailing until completion instead of remaking or hiatus, time will tell.

Reminded me a lot of Game of Thrones. Plot isn’t anything special but is executed well. Good scenes but they depend on buildup. If you watch them in isolation probably not the best. Rated a 5 because the writing is very good for a game on this site honestly. Actually was interested in the story. Can get a bit confusing though and sometimes there is a lot of exposition. But overall good.

Dude, I have never rated a game in this site, but holy fuck, this one made me make an exception to my anonymous lurking. I love nearly every aspect of this game, sans the weird way the game tends to mix Russian and English during some dialogues but fuck it, nothing is perfect.

My biases: I am a sucker for beautiful FMCs and I find the women in this game to be incredibly hot. In my AVN experience I have definitely overlooked errors and flaws of many games because they had hot characters. I'm also generally forgiving of porn logic because IMO you need that to make a majority of AVN games' storyline work.

Premise: you play as Elin, a prince of the kingdom who has been exiled since childhood. You find your way home and get to reunite with your mom (queen), sisters, and half-sister. Classic landlady/roommate game.

Overall thoughts: I am quite fond of this game because it does many things well and the only significant negative I can think of actually benefits the game in a weird way IMO. It has good humor, story, characters, sexy times, renders, music, etc.

Positives:
1) Hot and beautiful characters
2) Good renders and also good settings. The environment looks filled out and I like the cinematography.
3) Animation exists and is nice. But the scenes are not the longest and the animations aren't the BEST though. You are not going to have your mind blown.
4) The story is interesting. It is a magical fantasy setting and there's a lot of intrigue and scheming in the game. There is also good branching. Halfway through the first chapter (all that exists so far as of Dec 2025) you are presented with a major decision point that basically leads to completely different scenes that you'd otherwise see. It's pretty impressive and even with that branching, there is still a lot of content.
5) Music is nice, fitting to the scene, and sound effects are good.

Negatives (but also a positive):
1) The dialogue is translated with AI. This issue is not so much that there are typos or errors, which there are actually not that many at all, but that it ends up being "quirky". HOWEVER, I found this to actually have its own charm and I wouldn't really consider that a negative (more on that below). But if you cannot stand a single error/quirk in your game, then I'd wait to play this until somebody releases a full translation mod or until the game is over (usually Lazy Monkey fixes their games or a fan will fix the English once it's all done).

I find it okay though because I understood everything that was being said. The other thing is that this game as a unique style. The dialogue, tempo, and minute-to-minute of the story plays like a comedy. I found myself cracking up multiple times. However, the actual story itself, in terms of overarching plot, is relatively dark and serious so this unique blend adds a charm to it. And I think the unintended translation quirks add to the comedic and zany beat of the game all while the story itself is darker. I think that charm pushes the game to a 5/5 for me, otherwise it would probably be closer to a 4.5/5, MAYBE 4/5.

I felt this way playing the dev's other game Monkey Business where the dialogue and scene-to-scene felt pretty funny but then you sit back and realize the story is actually a little dark (though I'd say Imperial Chronicles is more serious/darker than Monkey Business, which wasn't THAT dark to begin with).

One of best game Adult Visual Novel's that i played this year. The story is serious and relevant, if you ever wished a porn game with many conspiracies inside a royal family like happened in the Roman Empire, that's the game for you. The plot is really intelligent and coherent, without Deus ex machina choices. It's a journey filled with decisions that matter. The sex scenes are animated and have sound effects (moaning etc), not many angles, but do the job. There're many LI's and taboo relations. The soundtrack is very good, specially, the song between chapters, i really appreciated the mysterious song. This game is very much like "Tales From The Unending Void", but in a better way, cause there's more tension for the incest relations, more build up and, of course, sound effects. The pacing of development is very impressive too, best lucky and more patrons for this Dev.

This is not a "feels good" story, it's a political intrigue with death, suffering and backstabbing. No matter who you align yourself with, you always feel like you're someone's puppet. Regardless of the choices you make, someone will always pay the price, your loved ones included. This approach makes the story feel incredibly grounded as the stakes are quite high. Treat it as a story-first game where erotic scenes aren't the main focus.
That said, there isn't much to criticize objectively. A few key takeaways:

• The branching paths often take you to wildly different directions. It's impossible to see what the game has to offer in a single playthrough.
• The relationships between the characters feel natural and realistic.
• The renders are extremely well-made, especially at some key points in the story.
• English is a bit wonky at times but pretty solid overall.

It's a great game to get immersed in, just not something you can easily wank to.

If you are really looking for a little sisterly love or wearing down mom until she realizes how much she wants the d, this will scratch that itch. There are also some meaningful choices to be made which gives this a bit of personalization. Other than that, the animation are average and I really did not feel any sort of attachment or the need to continue this AVN. Semi enjoyment with a perma-delete. I guess that is better than 1/2 of the AVNs on this site. Kudos for that.

This is an excellent game. There is no doubt about it. It delivers on what it set out to do, and the story is interesting/captivating. And a big improvement after dev's previous game "Monkey Business", which is Also yes, an amazing game.

I wish I could stop the review there, but I suppose I'll have to continue. Well, besides all the nasty hair on literally everyone, there's a huge plot turning point a couple hours in that really twisted my bungus in a knot. Had it happened like seven or eight hours in, after I'd come to appreciate the characters and world more, it would have been appropriate. But it's just dropped somewhat out of nowhere and it changes the entirety of the narrative in a direction I'm not fond of. Of note, I tried both routes and was not impressed.

I could deal with that, but I don't do hair IRL, I don't do hair in porn, I definitely do not do hair in games.

It's not a perfect game but there's something special about it that allows it to easily overcome it's faults.

-Mediocre sound, graphics and animations. Some scenes are very interesting but others aren't sexy/arousing.
-English translations have gotten better but writing is still a bit hard to follow at times but it's still a very good story.
-Quick updates. You are in charge of your destiny even though pathing is quite complex.
-Interesting and strong protagonist (not a simp or sub except in rare instances if you really want to be).
-Not a harem game but in some ways it feels like one more than most harem games do.
-It's very rare but finally we have a game where the MMC isn't a third wheel and doesn't get cucked by lesbians!

Let me preface this by saying I'm not really huge visual novel enjoyer, but this was genuinely incredible and at certain point I became really invested in the story in a way I didn't expect.

This VN can make you feel as if your choices really do have consequences and there are interesting events, characters and plotlines to keep you hooked throughout the whole game. If I had to nitpick and find some criticism I think visuals and H-scenes are not necessarily the absolute top-end of this site, but as I said the story and characters and how it manages to keep your attention is such a commendable feat that not many VNs manage to achieve.

Can recommend this for everyone. Incredible work thus far and excited to see completed game in the future.

To be honest, this is truly a masterpiece. It wins me over in every aspect—modeling, plot, character development, and the interactions between characters. I hope the creators keep updating it, as this is really an excellent game.

Imperial Chronicles [v0.11] - Chapter 1 Full

This VN easily ranks among the better ones on this site - as long as you’re fine with a fantasy setting and the kinks listed in the genre tags. It’s not perfect (what is?), but it comes pretty close. If I have to dig to find flaws, the dev clearly did a lot right.

The story hooked me from the start. You play as a prince regent ruling your father’s kingdom, with the opportunity to build a harem of stunning women - including your own siblings and mother. There are mysterious forces plotting against you, which keeps the story interesting and gives it a sense of tension. What I’d like to see a bit more of is character depth and emotional dynamics between the women involved with the MC. A little more jealousy or conflict between the love interests would make their relationships feel more alive.

Choices matter. The dev has clearly put a lot of effort into creating meaningful branches and side paths. Some decisions steer the story’s direction, others affect your relationships with certain girls, and a few simply let you skip specific kinks (like NTR or femdom).

The visual quality is excellent and up to modern standards. Scene assets are carefully chosen, and the characters look great. The MC is genuinely handsome, and his love interests are gorgeous - Cassandra (or Cass) in particular caught my attention I also appreciate that the body proportions are natural. I’m one of those players who get turned off by exaggerated body-slider proportions - when breasts or butts are pushed so far that the shape just looks off and unnatural. Thankfully, this VN stays far away from that.

Animations look smooth and natural. I’d only wish for a few more close-up shots during sex scenes - facial expressions, breast movement, creampies, etc. Most scenes are shown from roughly the same distance, which makes them feel a bit uniform. But overall, the execution is excellent.

Music and sound effects are well used and add real atmosphere to the game.

All in all, Imperial Chronicles feels like a 5-star piece of work to me - polished visuals, an engaging story, meaningful choices, and clear passion from the dev behind it.
