I need you to expand on the part I highlighted. Self-inserting is not a subjective thing, it’s a well-documented cognitive effect. People who read a lot tend to automatically project aspects of themselves into a protagonist or viewpoint character. This isn’t about “wanting” to self-insert. The brain is trained to do so as an automatic thing for literate people.
