Is it safe to give android storage access to the game?

Some games don't require storage access at all and save game works. Why do some games require storage access, it's a bit concerning.

I'm not comfortable sharing my android storage even with big "safe" apps like social media and search engines.

The Android port for some games require storage access for photos, media and files which is straight up weird

Sideloading apps is never safe, that being said, there is no reason for a dev who seriously wants to succeed here to be writing malware. All the files get uploaded to virustotal, which does a really amazing job, before being uploaded to the hosting sites linked here if that makes you feel better
