Is the chase better than the end goal?

Hello

I'm just going to post this here, i asked the same question on my thread but i'm not very well known yet so only got one answer and i would like some different opions.

Is the chase better than the goal? By this i mean im currently writing the next episode Shameless plug and im starting to heat things up a bit. I don't want to wife and mother blue balls for 2 years but on the flip side i don't want to go full on without context so it seems cheap. What are your thoughts? Do you just want to get to good stuff or do you like chasing the girl?

Yeah, the chase is one of the best parts if done well, as long as it doesn't become so prolonged that it starts to blueball the player. Conflict and drama is one way you can "extend" the chase once the MC finally gets what he wants, but it's important that it's well done because it's easy to come off as artificial.

Yes, in entertainment the chase is what makes the romance and sex scenes that much more interesting. If it wasn't a thing no one would care anywhere near as much when these 3d characters are smashed together.

These are erotic games, when creating the scenarios you mix good stuff in with the chase.

I think 'the chase' is good if at the end, you have a feeling that you worked hard for reward. Nobody likes unrealistic and too easy to get sex scenes.
Give me personalities I could fall in love with.
Give as something small, but leave the best for later.

I like this train of thought thanks, its hard not to fall into the same old story tropes.

And thanks it is more of an introduction to the characters so looking to build up to the good stuff.

The reason for playing games instead of watching porn is that there is a story which provided context and reasons for the sex to happen. This is arguably more erotic than just watching two people fuck, and even moreso if they are 3D models rather than actual people.

BUT! the reasons for sex can be put in place slowly or faster, depending on the context.
Incest is likely to take longer than two consenting adults who get drunk together in some bar.
Or if the characters are married / in a relationship from the start, then there is no reason to wait for the sex scenes.
But that might also be a bit boring. It all depends on the story, the characters and the context.

I like the build up to make sense so it depends on what sort of personality the character has. Banging the hot bartender who flirts with everyone should probably be easier than banging the shy bookworm who never talks to anyone. Most people fall somewhere in the middle. So a 1 night stand here and there is fine but those aren't really relationships. Those are booty calls or 1 too many drinks in the bar or whatever and you just hooked up with someone.

That doesn't mean there can't be sex early in a real relationship too though. I think a lot of devs make you wait way too long for that. Most girls won't give it up on the first date, but they also don't string you along for 6 months or whatever unless they're just using you for your money. For something taboo like incest it should take longer to overcome the taboo if it happens at all. I could also see a longer time frame making sense if they're the religious type since then sex itself is taboo for them.

I also think it depends a lot on the relative difference in sexual market value for them. A girl who's a 6 will probably give it up to a guy who's an 8 faster than she would to a guy who's a 6 because she wants to land the guy who she thinks is a catch. A guy who manages to get a date with a 10 will try harder (probably fruitlessly) to impress her than he will if he's on a date with a 6 because he has to and he'll probably still be more likely to actually get sex from the 6 without trying so hard.

So if your game is about a guy who looks like a loser and he's trying to bang a bunch of 10s then yes it should be hard. If he's a normal guy or has improved himself to where the girls he's after are not way out of his league then it should be easier. If MC looks like Brad Pitt or something and is rich then it should be easy but then it's probably not much of a game, it's just MC banging whoever he wants at will. Personally, I prefer my games to have some challenge but that doesn't mean I want the Russian Grind.

Instead of getting the girl, make it "keeping the girl" as your goal. She's always looking for someone better to come along, it's only a matter of time. You have to stay ahead of the curve... keep improving yourself, or she'll lose interest in you, and move on to someone else. Getting the girl is the easy part. If she thinks you have potential, she'll take a chance and sleep with you, even if you aren't rich, but don't be fooled she doesn't love you for who you are, she's in love with what she thinks you can be... and if you don't live up to her expectations, she's outa there.

You don't stop hitting the gym, because you have a girlfriend. You don't stop getting an education, because you got your dick wet. You don't quit your job, because she let you do her in the pooper. Life goes on after you get your v-card hole punched.
sex isn't the objective in life, and it shouldn't be in adult games either. You workout so that other girls are attracted to you, because if other girls don't want you, you can bet your current girlfriend doesn't want you either. You always continue your education, and advance your career. She won't sleep with a restaurant dishwasher forever, get skills, get a better job, buy a starter house instead of paying rent for a shitty apartment. Sell that house and buy a better one. It's not game over if that slut dumps you, you have other options, get a better girl.

IMO "getting the girl"(or boy, et al) shouldn't end the game. That should trigger a new phase in the game--sexual exploration, deepening and maintaining a relationship.
