Itch.io to reindex adult content

So itch finally got a small win. Reindexing free nsfw games for now with ongoing discussion with Stripe and Paypal about allowing more adult content back for purchase. Stripe in particular showed support that it would be able to accept adult content transactions in the future. Some good news after a week of shit lol. Hope this kicks off a trend.

You comedically misread it.

We spoke with Stripe yesterday about their content policies. They confirmed that they will not be able to support adult content that fits the following definition: “content designed for sexual gratification.”

Don't fucking trust Stripe with this bullshit like their CEO isn't a massive prude already who was happy to work with Collective Shit

" Stripe has indicated that they hope to be able to support adult content in the future. "
Hope to.

If you don't see how this is very different from:

Stripe in particular showed support that it would be able to accept adult content transactions in the future
I don't know what to tell you.

By the way, Stripe cut off SubscribeStar while Visa/Mastercard didn't.

So I was wondering why the demo version of my game was still not listed. Looks like they are only listing the ones flagged "No Payment" not also those flagged "$0 or donation". Hmmm......

The "or donation" part disqualifies your listing from reindexing, yes.

You understand that it's absolutely not a win, right?

Unlike Steam, that is only kicking out of their platform adult NSFW games with borderline content (incest and none consensual), itch.io is kicking out of payment all adult NSFW games. On itch.io, even vanilla adult NSFW games are hit, while they are safe on Steam.

And don't praise Stripe and PayPal (why PayPal anyway, they aren't named in the blog post) since it's only because of them. The victory will happen if itch.io achieve to secure a deal with Visa/MasterCard, that accept those games as long as they aren't borderline, like Patreon did 8 years ago. But I'm really not sure that itch.io have the fund for the frozen deposit needed to secure such deal.

Are we happy with this?
Not I. My game is still not listed. The whole principle in my mind for donations is that you are donating to the developer you are not donating to the game. I understand their concerns but you can't just take a hammer to all NSFW games like this, there are people's livelihoods at stake here. People who spend a lot of time and effort to build content, content that breaks no laws. For me Itch is not a huge revenue stream, but it's still an important one and also acts as a vehicle to get word out on my game. It's a big loss to me and this fixes absolutely nothing.

"Yes"

It's the classic proven strategy of doing something very bad, then take back most of it and leave behind what you truly wanted to obtain. Company wins, and everybody else feels like they won as well.

Not saying it's what Itch.io was planning to do, but it happened countless times with gaming related stuff, including some game engines (Unity).

I doubt that itch.io see it as a real victory. They haven't lost, but it's not a win either.
Last year they were going after games available for free, because they were impacting their operating cost, and now they have few thousands ( ) of games for free, that cost them in hosting space and bandwidth use, while generating no earning for them.

No, I was talking in general as to "Why we're happy with this", I did specify itch.io didn't plan for this. However, that's a legit strategy that many do.

Yet there's no reason to be happy, because itch.io is the hardest hit.

Patreon survived (and really well) its own hit 8 years ago. Steam will survive its hit. But itch.io have to find few millions if it want to continue servicing adult games through payment.
