Japanese Censoring

So I'm curious about the rational for censoring genitals in Japan. I mean, there's all types of extreme shit in Anime and these games; Why do they have this censor law for genitals but the rest is fine?

This isn't any type of critique of the Japanese or anything, just a curiosity about the reasoning.

As I understand it the law came from Japan trying to reinvent itself, and it's just not been changed since. It's likely few people who are able to want to be the ones seen as responsible for it, and it's probably too profitable for some.

Most likely no politician wants to be "that guy" to propose the change. I don't see this changing anytime soon.

Don't see what's so ironic about public indecency being illegal, but drawings being fine. Seems like Japan is pretty based.
