I played the first game and it was pretty enjoyable and I joined the discord years ago, but I was never able to find a FAQ about how the routes for the first games were going to be handled going into the second?

We got pretty divergent character paths.

I think you got an option in JPDE 2 after the prologue that asked which member of Team RWBY you took to the dance?

The game asks a bunch of questions at the prologue, and when meeting some characters that have divergent routes the first one usually a prompt asks you what happened during the events of the first game, something like:

1. I know that person
2. I have a physical relationship with that person
3 I never even met that person

What about the poly/harem relationship?

No matter how many people you date, you still only get to choose one person to take to the dance.

But the mechanical reason is that it would introduce too many variables, sadly, if everyone you did was to be referenced in JPDE 2.

For example, romancing Pyrrha is strongly implied to result in her kicking Cinder's ass, but in JPDE 2 the outcome of that fight is the same since it'd otherwise have altered the plot at various points throughout the second game.
