i always wonder. whats with this pixalated censoring from the japanese games and videos.
is there a special reason why they do it ?

i always wonder about it, cus the rest of the world doesnt feel the need to censor it that way.
so i wonder why the japanese do it. does anyone know ?

Because, for them, it's illegal to not do it. They're required to do it unless they want to go against the law.

I remember someone once telling me that back in the day when they would import playboy, hustler etc. they would have to physically cut out the fun bits with scissors, leading the the theory that they are collecting them all in a warehouse.

Its very, very strict, to the point that if you release art you cannot allow it to be decensored (in PSD's for example eery single layer must be censored or you can be charged). My theory is that's why their porn is so weird... ban the penis they made a tentacle penis proxy.

Yes and no. They have to censor the genitalia, but how strong the censoring will be depend on the media; Not because of the law, but purely for technical reason. By example you can easily use a software to automatically blur a part of a movie; just define a region that cover a bit more, what will nor really be an issue, and you'll be sure that everything will be correctly censored. But doing the same with the "bar version" censoring used nowadays in manga, and you would have to edit frame by frame to be sure that it will be placed correctly.

Every single image, animated or not, pornographic, or softcore, featuring genitalia, or even a small bit of them, that are produced in Japan is censored. I don't know what porn movies you look, but they aren't Japanese.

The bar thing in (hentai) manga is sadly a relict from the past. Only very few do that anymore, most it's either completly whited out (which can be terrible, because as they are typical in black and white it can cause for you to not know what's even going on) or a pixelated mess.

They nowadays even censor nipples in non-hentai mangas, by putting huge black boxes over them. So if you browse ecchi (pervy) mangas on online-readings site (no matter if official or pirated), you have a high chance to see even harsher censorship.

You see the rise in prudery here in the west? It's the same in Japan. There are several politcal movements who want to put an end to all the porn and hentai stuff. Censorship is just one aspect of it.

And the globalization has a part in this too.
