Keep learning blender or using daz models?

Hello. I posted a few threads a couple of months back and got some help to understand the basic programs used to create AVNs such as Daz3D as 3d model/render program and I tried it out but noticed that creating models at your own was very hard and it seems like most of the game creators buy licenses and models for their characters. As I don't have a lot of money to spend on models and so on i decided to learn modelling/sculpting for myself and now have become decent at it in Blender.

My question is: Is it worth to continue learning Blender and creating models at my own (I kind of like learning 3d models and sculpting since I'm currently studying UX Design and it might come across during work) OR are you able to create decent looking characters in Daz3D without buying stuff (without copyright if i decide to publish a game myself in the future).

I just need to know my next move, if it's worth investing more time in Blender and "mastering" sculpting or should I try out Daz again? As said, I want to do this without spending money. I can spend time learning stuff if needed such as watching youtube videos and follow tutorials.

You should learn Blender and 3D modelling in general because you're not going to be using only characters in any projects and not being able to make or edit objects how you want them can be extremely limiting.

first you need to set a goal, are you trying to make a realistic human or more cartoon/anime .
if you want to make a realistic model you should just spend money even daz3d can't do that. but i will say you are in for hell .

but if you want to learn some low level skill in blender there is many way to learn like download other people model ( not use) and you can see what other people do and so on.

is a good place to see other people model and download to learn.

and the harder part for making a realistic human is not the model is the texture. and let not forget the hair , is going to pain in the ass.

Thanks for the answer :) But yeah I know it will be a hell of a ride, but the thing is, I love using Blender. Creating stuff and designing models is something I have a passion for and as said earlier, might be something the benefits me in my work in the future. For the moment I just try to learn the basics by sculpting and using different features.

The image is a model i created all by my own (using references and tutorials of course, eyes were imported), but still, I don't know if i want to create realistic characters or more cartoony. I was hoping characters like the ones in Being A Dik Season 1 wasn't that hard to create since some of the models are lacking the extra "realism" (not saying it's a bad thing), but after using sculpt for a time now it takes time aswell lol

But yeah I really like models that are a bit cartoony, like "Mist". Plus there are tons of tutorials of characters like these on YouTube.

Learning blender is overall the better choice. If you can make your own models, you can sell them anywhere for any platform, not only the daz store to be used with daz3d. Making them VR Chat ready can also help with sales. It's not easy by any means, but there's lots of great tutorials on youtube for nearly anything you want to do in blender.

Another way to look at it, learning blender is like learning how to use photoshop for drawing, a skill for a tool that's useful in many situations, while daz is more like lightroom, only useful if you already have something to work on (photos for lightroom, daz models for daz3d)

you can absolutely get by without buying any models,or modeling them yourself from scratch, if you're fine with popular ip's and working around whatever is out there for free/"free"(for example on smutbase etc. or ripping static meshes from world of warcraft clients and the like).

i still advise learning some blender/equivalent to be able to make at the very least extremely basic edits to models(character models and otherwise) as you will have little chance of finding EXACTLY what you want a character/static mesh to be if your budget is 0.

also fair warning : if you have no background in this sort of shit it'll be frustrating as fuck. i've been learning stuff i need for whatever i'm trying to do next in blender/unreal/you name it for about a year now, having absolutely no background in anything, and especially at the start it was absolute torture.

If your having fun using blender that is the absolute preferred choice. It's capabilities far exceed what you can do with Daz. Just don't feel like you have to reinvent the wheel all the time. Say a couch you pose your character on could very well be an asset you got from somewhere else.
